I say RISE in HELL.

Right off the back I’m going to assume that divine possession is a lot like fusing in steven universe except without the varied forms, so the more conflicting the fused’s opinions/personalities are with each other the more straight up disaster you’re gonna get with your deity. When you have such a hot stew of conflicting opinions, personalities, and mental issues as the onigiri squad you can make a safe bet that divine possession is Not Gonna Be a good experience for the majority of them.

Of course, I cannot predict how their divine personality will change for every oni with divine possession. For the most part, only one of my two heroes of onigashima, Fumiko, would really mess around with this ability, so please assume that I’m just speaking of their relationship of fusing with Fumiko.

I’m gonna start with Asura bc of course he’s the worst case scenario and I mean... this is Momotarou’s blog.

ASURA - Being as driven by justice as Asura is would ironically be part of the reason for his own downfalls at Momotarou’s hands. Not to mention the rest of Momo’s poor image of himself, the fact that Asura shares multiple arms with the monster Tiamat made Momotarou into, and. Well. Having to be fused with an Oni in order to become Asura in the first place.

While Asura is a powerful deity that ultimately just wants to keep humanity safe as a whole, there is a pretty large chance that his behavior will turn self destructive and without warning. If you think Yuri’s confession from Doki Doki Literature club you already have  pretty clear picture of just how dedicated Asura/Momotarou is to getting rid of any large scale threats, even if it includes himself.

Why would he fear himself becoming a threat? Well, it does end up having a lot to do with appearance. You see, while Asura doesn’t have a lot in common with the yo-kai version of Momotarou (which might mean the kamikui also have something like divine possession?) he does have multiple arms and some large splashes of black blood. Because of the couple of times the monster has gotten out and craved only for destruction, Momotarou’s started to associate those sort of features as bad things... not that he could be entirely blamed for that, but still.

Considering that Fumiko and Momotarou very rarely get along, possibly the same with most oni, Asura would probably have one of the rarest appearances.

SIEGFRIED - Much more tame in comparison considering that Miroku can be a people-pleaser, Siegfried seems fairly more god-like in comparison. That’s because Fumiko pushes pretty damn hard to get Siegfried to do anything concerning battle (Not as hard as she has to with Kirin, but you have to really push Miroku because he’s not really violent in any way, shape, or form). Fumiko also learned that while Siegfried seems like a cool hero on the outside, Miroku has a tendency to make Siegfried talk a little bigger than he actually is to hide his own poor self esteem.

Fortunately, Fumiko working alongside Miroku in the form of Siegfried does have positive effects on our good ol’ depressed salesman (like, for one, it’s actually sort of teaching him how to fight), though there is a new worry about what he says actually being the truth compared to whatever he’s saying just to survive to the next day.

Oh yeah, and Fumiko will probably have to make sure Miroku doesn’t end up falling super deep into his depressive mentality.

Siegfried is one of the more common possessions, but these possessions tend to be short because Miroku isn’t the most keen on the whole aspect.

VALKYRIE - Arguably the most stable possession considered that Fumiko and Yoshitsune actually get along. While Valkyrie is among the best fighter among the possessed (second likely to Asura). While she’s fiercely loyal, their combined leadership issues become a bit of a sore point to Valkyrie’s personality with a new-found tendency to nitpick. At least she’s a pretty decent leader, though.

Valkyrie will probably be the most common possession.

VENUS - Also very tame, Venus is very soft and gently like Shizuka but far less of a pushover. Her biggest issue is that she might be a little too into self sacrifice. Venus is also not too strong of a goddess and prefers to stay back from the battle.

Venus is also somewhat common, though Fumiko would rather get up close and personal in a fight.

KIRIN - Kirin is the least favorite of the possessions because she’s the least willing to pull her weight in a fight. When she does get into a fight, Kirin usually gets pretty snappy. This is Fumiko’s fault because in order to get her to do anything, Fumiko ends up losing her temper, which gets Ibaraki into a pretty cranky mood. While Kirin can hit the enemy pretty hard, Kirin does end up becoming a teary eyed mess by the end of the fight and leaves Ibaraki in tears when the two split up again.

To maintain everyone’s sanity, Kirin is the rarest possession.

Of course, in the right combination, divine possession can be a very positive experience. However, there must be a strong sense of harmony between the combined two people in order for the possession to turn out well. Of course, in the wrong hands, divine possession can be very dangerous and could potentially result in death if not split up soon enough.
