Keeping My Mouth Shut
Sitting idly by while huge reform needs to be made in academia is so difficult for me. Trying to be the good n*gga who shuts up and does her job without causing a stir. I try to keep my head down and not incite too much ruckus simply because this is a means to and ends but damn is this hard. I canât stand having to keep my true feelings about the systemic racism quiet. So many people in my environment get to say out of pocket stuff just because theyâre ignorant and âdonât know any betterâ. Well thatâs kinda stupid since Iâm a 23 yo black girl who has to âknow betterâ to say the right thing and be sure not to step on any toes. I canât call out hypocrisy because not only am I an underling but also donât want to be stereotyped. Itâs a double edged sword for black women. Damned if we do and damned if we donât.
