Look I love 90's Sailor Moon, it's very special to me, I'm very nostalgic about it, but there are some glaringly evil things that I'll never forgive the (male ofc) showrunners for unnecessarily adding/changing from Naoko Takeuchi's original story, and one of those things is how they absolutely ASSASSINATED Rei's character by making her so MEAN & downright cruel to Usagi. That's not Rei. Rei doesn't treat Usagi like that, EVER. That's not the Rei Naoko Takeuchi wrote and I HATE them for taking a woman's work about girl's friendships and turning them against eachother for literally no reason other than "well Rei is fire so she has to be hot-headed." Ok? But being hot-headed doesn't mean Rei should slap Usagi in the face for crying over something traumatic. And people will have the audacity to say they prefer the 90's anime because of the "friendships" like there aren't so MANY more instances of the girls being awful to one another where that just Does Not Happen in the manga because that goes against the whole point!!! The other thing the 90's anime did that's straight up despicable is how they reconfigured Takeuchi's story to be more palatable to the male gaze. This is a story about young girls written by a young woman for other young girls. It's not supposed to be for men's gaze??? But NOPE, they need more men to watch it so they really NEEDED to add a boiyoiyoiyoing closeup of the 6 year old's private parts after she has an accident, or have her SA'd by a boy in her class because....that's so funny! Hahaha hahaha! This is SO integral to the plot! Also it's funny because we HATE Chibiusa!
