Anyone ever sit down and wonder what happened to Aegus?
Like yeah he lived, we assumed he survived the First Great War, but what do you think happened to him?
Achillean and Ingressus were just gone. Gone without a trace and everyone just assumed they were dead.
Where does that leave Aegus? The man who basically raised the two of them and cared for them like they were his own.
Does he even believe they died? I mean no bodies, no proof they are gone. The songs can convince many, but Aegus? I don’t think so.
This man could have spent the rest of his life not believing either of them died but had no idea what happened and couldn’t mourn because of that.
He died before they came back too. He never knew.
That is not even dipping into how he couldn’t even openly grieve over Ingressus. Achillean? Of course he could, everyone would expect him to. Ingressus? The Deathsinger? No. Just no.
"Oh yes, we fought together on occasions. His true name was Achillean Nestoris, and he was the greatest song wielder... I have ever known."
Some days I think about this line from Ep5 a little too hard and get myself all emotional over it.
I think Thalleous considers Achillean to be more than a friend. Far more than that.
There's a very unique sense of loneliness that comes with being put on a social pedestal, and Achillean is one of few people in this world that would understand that. Both are Ardonis with titles grander than themselves thrusted onto their heads when they were mere young adults. There's blood on your hands. Did you want it there? Did you put it there? Doesn't matter. What you carry is bigger than what you will ever be. The Champion. The Tidesinger. What does it all mean by the end of the day? People don't see you anymore. They see your title.
I like to think these two found solace in each other's presence. A break from the expectations that knock the air out of their lungs. A break from the tormoil of war and somewhere to release grief, anger, tears, things they can never express in public.
I can't imagine the same level of emotional closeness was shared by Achillean though, having heard what Thalleous has done to the Voltaris clan from Ingressus. I'd like to think he kept Thalleous at arm's length, no matter now close they seemed to be outside. There's topics the Nestoris always avoided talking about (for obvious reasons). There's still things Achillean had nowhere to talk about, and likely, so did Thalleous.
But the solace they found in each other was unforgettable. Achillean is special to Thalleous in a way no one else is. Whether or not the level of emotional closeness was returned didn't matter to him, he finally had someone that understood at least a little part of the things he can't never say.
...and that is enough for him to still deeply miss the Nestoris warrior he lost one and half centuries ago.
“No—no it is not enough! I fought in a war against my closest friend! I bargained with gods and made deals with Kings to protect our clans, now you want to lead our people to death? I will not stand by and let you!”
“Achillean Nestoris. You should consider your next words carefully. You speak to the Masters of the four clans.”

“I challenge you all for the title of; Sendaris, Kaltaris, Mendoris and… and Nestoris Master.”
“You—!”
“I have challenged you for your staffs and your clans! Are you going to face me or are you all too cowardly to do so!?”

Okari! Oh wow Okari is up, this Ardoni is relatively new to the line up actually! They are my first Nonbinary Ardoni, and they are a pirate captain! Okay maybe the title pirate captain is pretty out there; they work and oversee a ship that goes on long voyages through the sea to go get fish or transport trades. They are not the only ship that is from the Nestoris clan, but it is the oldest and oddest one. Most other ships are usually mostly Nestoris run, but Okari’s has a very interesting bunch. Or as they like to call their crew? “My collection of odd treasures.” They have a few Nestoris on board of course, but they have a few Ardoni from other clans, a couple of humans, and one felina that took over the crows nest and won’t give it back.
Okari is a pretty old Ardoni, their horns are done growing and sometimes they have to use a cane to get around. They also grew up with Aegus Nestoris. So I don’t think I need to tell you they are pre-First Great War! They are a bit younger than Aegus, not by a significant amount to an Ardoni. The two have a bit of an odd relationship, and by that I mean they care for each other very much, but Okari will tease and flirt with Aegus relentlessly. Even as an old man Aegus gets ragebaited by Okari just like he did when they were teens and it is glorious. They are also the only person brave–dumb–enough to flirt with the old Nestoris Master and they wear that badge with honor. They are also just chaotic in general, it was awful when they were growing up and never went away even after they got old.
