Top Rank is a Brooklyn based publication that highlights unique and driven women in every field. We’ve been working with them since it’s inception a year ago. Over the weekend, Top Rank and Nakeya Brown held an opening, finally released their first publication and had a surprise private show by denitia and sene. We are very proud of everyone at Top Rank for the wonderful work they’ve done. Visit Top Rank to see their where the magazine will be sold.

Brooklyn duo and friend of the program, Denitia and Sene have released a follow-up EP to their successful debut album his and hers. We’ve highlighted these guys enough to know that we love them. We recommend them to anyone who hasn’t heard them.

Last day of Best of 1834 BLKYN1834 at SXSW 2014 For the official launch of BKLYN1834, we set up shop in Austin, Texas during SXSW 2014 and created a fully interactive creative and performance space -- The BKLYN House. With our team and a number of artists all under one roof, we hosted six events during SXSW's Media and Music weeks which included live performances, DJ sets, video shoots, 3D printing, custom screenprinting, live art, recording sessions, and more. Day 16 of Best of 1834 BKLYN1834's 229W43 Residency We had the pleasure of getting a month long residency in the historic 229W43 (formerly the New York Times building). We held events, photoshoots, live recording sessions, filming, dance battles, and a concert in the raw space of 229W43’s top floor. Check out all of the events here.
Day 15 of Best of 1834 The ClubCasa Chamber Orchestra - Noisechamber Vol. 1 We collaborated with Sly5thAve, a Brooklyn-based jazz musician, to produce the first EP from The ClubCasa Chamber Orchestra (CCCO). Sly's journey brought him to Brooklyn, via Austin, TX, to pursue his passion for jazz saxophone. He was soon a resident at The ClubCasa, an artist residence in the Ditmas Park neighborhood of Brooklyn. The house's creative energy inspired Sly to set up a recording studio in his basement apartment. He began arranging and mastering versions of popular songs, like Rihanna's "Pour It Up" or Kendrick Lamar's "BDKMV." The earliest versions featured only wind instruments, without the support of strings or drums. As the project grew, Sly turned the house's closets and showers into additional recording space when needed. The ClubCasa Chamber Orchestra was beginning to take shape. Making of Noisechamber Photos

Day 14 of Best of 1834 Pharoahe Monch - Broken Again When Pharoahe first played us three songs off of PTSD, this was the one we immediately fell in love with. Story is mix between substance abuse personified and drug metaphor for an addictive relationship. We we drawn by how powerful this song is and we wanted to created a visual that matched its soft moments and big moments about the hold an addition can have on you.
