A/N hello this is the first oneshot I’ve ever written so it might be bad :)) enjoy. Also this is meant to be fem reader but I didn’t use any gender specific terms I’m pretty sure so it doesn’t really matter :>
Summary: you met Kate at a charity event and she makes you VERY sexually confused. Plus reader has mommy issues (definitely not because i have mommy issues)
Warnings: pure fluff, mention of former manipulative relationships, mommy issues, slightly neglecting parents, kissing? Proof read ;)
You stood at the entrance of the large estate shivering lightly at the chilly winter breeze as you waited for your parents to finish talking with one of their ‘business partners’. All you wanted was to go home. You had no desire to be at this charity event but you parents had insisted since they didn’t trust you to stay home without ending up burning the house down trying to make a sandwich.
Charity events were always tedious and boring filled with old dull wrinkly white men who wanted to buy and sell everything. ever since your parents had moved to America from York, England you’d been dragged along to at least a million of events as they tried to build up an image amongst the higher standing people of New York which didn’t really make sense to you. The only thing really good about these events were the art that usually got sold at them. And the snacks of course. You had always had an interest in art even selling some of your own, and you always found it peaceful to go around studying some of the old paintings looking at how much detail the artist who had created them had gone into to get the perfect atmosphere playing with both facial expressions and colour.
Finally you parents seemed to finish up whatever conversation they had been having and you could go inside. Your mum straightened out some seemingly i nonexisting wrinkles in your black suit before you entered frowning slightly at how many people was cramped into the small room. This was going to be horrible.
“Oh don’t be like that,” your mum said noticing the slight frown that had formed on your face “it’s just very cramped okay…” you sighed annoyed. You really weren’t a fan of big crowds of people. Or people at all actually. You’d rather just be by yourself enjoying the silence, so being in such a big mass of people was bound to be uncomfortable. “Just go find a silent corner or something, me and your mum have to meet up with Mr Davis again so we’ll be on the second floor,” your dad dismissed sending you a brief smile and taking your mother’s side to go meet whoever Mr Davis was.
You sighed accepting that there really wasn’t anything you could do about it. You stuffed your hands in you pockets already slightly on edge as you maneuvered through the crowd of people in a hope to find a couch or somewhere to sit when you spotted a bar. “Wonderful” you mumbled. Maybe a drink wouldn’t be so bad right now.
You straightened up as you moved towards the bar and flipped the hair out of you face sitting down on a black barstool ordering a simple Mojito and spinning around in circles in the chair boredly not really knowing what to do. You didn’t know anybody here at all so you really didn’t have anybody to talk to. No recognizable faces or voices. When you received your drink you began drinking still spinning slightly on the chair trying to get a view of the crowd.
While you scanned all the fancy people crowding together to talk about fancy people stuff your eyes landed on a girl who had an equally as bored look on her face as she sat on a sofa in the corner of the room staring into space. You decided to trie and strike up a conversation not wanting to just sit around for the whole event.
As you plopped down on the couch next to her she seemed to snap out of her trance slightly startled her eyes snapped up at you making you smile at her. “You seem bored,” you said softly not wanting to seem creepy “uh- oh, yeah i never really enjoyed these kind of events,” she said honestly while chuckling awkwardly and smiling back at you “I’m sorry if i startled you i just thought you seemed lonely- and i was lonely- so I thought you know-“ you rambled trying to explain yourself making her chuckle again “no, no it’s fine. Is that a british accent?” She asked curiously furrowing her eyebrows “oh, yeah, my parents moved here from york not so long ago,” you answered smiling and taking another sip from your drink.
“If you don’t enjoy these events why are you here then?” You questioned pondering if she was dragged here as well. “Oh, my parents made me go,” she answered sighing “plus the snacks are nice here,” she added making you chuckle “same here. Though i do however find that the paintings at auctions like these are very interesting,” you spoke glancing over at some people who were carrying paintings through the room to wherever the auction was happening “oh your into art?” The other woman assumed and you nodded “my names y/n by the way,” you declared smiling warmly “I’m Kate,” She said returning the smile “that’s a very pretty name” you claimed honestly. You took a moment to study the the woman now known to you as Kate more closely and sure enough the pretty named suited her perfectly. Her dark hair was put up in a messy braid that fell perfectly on her shoulders. She was dresses in a black suit that looked beautiful on her complimenting her paler skin tone. “Do you have any hobbies?” You asked wanting to get to know Kate “well i do archery, martial arts, gymnastics and dancing,” she said proudly. It surprised you how many sports one person could do at a time and your eyes widened slightly “thats a lot of hobbies for one person,” you laughed “i always wanted to do archery but i never really got to, but i do knife and axe throwing,” she grinned amused at how surprised you were “i could teach you some archery id you’d like,” she offered seemingly enjoying your company just as much as you were enjoying her’s “that’d be brilliant!” You agreed eagerly exited by the fact that you’d maybe get to see her again at some point.
“well i can give you my number so we can stay in contact,” Kate suggested taking her phone out of her pocket “that’s sound,” you said making the smile that was tugging at her lips reveal itself completely.
You exchanged numbers and conversed for a while. You hadn’t thought anything of this event up until you met Kate and you were suddenly very grateful of you mother for dragging you here. Kate was smart, funny, interesting and overall just a fantastic person to be around and it made the charity event actually enjoyable.
But at the same time she confused you. You honestly never believed in love at first sight, you wanted to get to know people first. Wanted to understand them and for them to understand you before getting into anything intimate with another person but Kate gave you a weird fuzzy feeling in the pit of your stomach that almost scared you. You didn’t quite understand it yet but all you knew was that you enjoyed Kates presence and she made you feel like there was nobody else around you.
“Do want to go home to my apartment after the event is done? I- i mean i have an apartment close to here and you know its late and all,” you chuckled as Kate tried to explain herself and nodded your head “sure, that’d be lovely. I don’t think my parents will mind either they don’t really care where i go or what I’m up to so I’m sure they’re fine with it,”

The charity event had dragged out to an end and you and Kate were walking back to her apartment. You didn’t exactly know where she lived or where you were headed but you trusted Kate enough to not be a sociopathic mass murder. Plus she told you she had a dog and that seemed like proof enough that she wasn’t evil.
The cold flow through your hair making it bounce slightly as you made your way through the chilly streets of New York alongside Kate who you conversed comfortably with. She wore a dark brown coat which looked cozy as it hugged her body and you smiled to yourself slightly. It fitted her style perfectly and honestly looked adorable on her.
She was truly beautiful as the neon signs lit up her face in green, pink and blue colors in a way that made her now darkened blue eyes shimmer slightly. You admired her until you eventually caught yourself cursing yourself out internally and thanking the stars the night was dark enough to hide the slight blush that formed on your cheeks.
Eventually after a couple minutes of walking you had mustered up the courage and confidence to reach out and touch her hand in a subtle way to indicate that you wanted to hold hands. You could almost felt her smile which you mirrored as she grabbed your hand and you chuckled slightly at how fast she reciprocated the gesture. She edged closer to you and you ended up walking the rest of the way back to her apartment shoulder to shoulder sharing each other’s warmth and relishing in the feeling of just being close to each other.

The clicking sound of the door rung through the silent apartment complex and broke the silence between the two of you as she had released the hold she had on your hand to open her front door stepping into the entrée and throwing her shoes off lazily.
“Welcome to my humble home,” Kate said proudly as your eyes flickered around the apartment curiously “make yourself at home,” She opened the fridge and rummaged through it in a search of something to eat.
The was quite spacey and had two stories which astonished you as you compared it two the small city apartment you mum had gifted you that was two rooms and a bathroom. Kate’s apartment was filled with trophies, martial arts and archery gear that you hoped you’d get to trie out at some point “you have an AWESOME place,” you said sincerely “can we spar together at some point?” You continued excitedly and she grinned “that would be amazing,” she mirrored the eagerness in you voice. And of course. There he was. the one and only. Lucky. Kate had proudly told you the name of her fluffy companion and recited how she saved the golden retriever from being hit by a car.
“Omg he’s adorable,” you laughed as you kneeled down and let the dog lick your face as you gave it all the attention you could muster up. “Yeah Lucky loves his ear scratches. Yeah you love your ear scratches don’t you,” Kate said, the last part of the sentence coming out in a baby voice as she joined you and Lucky on the floor making you laugh even more
“i have pizza if you want some. Or boxed macaroni though i only have one fork so maybe we should just go for pizza,” Kate rambled “fine with me, i love pizza but my parents hate it since their apparently tOo PoSH fOr StrEet FoOD,” you imitated an exaggeration of your mothers extremely posh British accent that was even thicker than your accent “aww well Herman’s hearty slice pizzeria is literally mm so good,” she stated and you smiled sitting down in one of the chairs by her table Lucky following after and laying down besides your chair “Kate i think I’m going to steal your child,” you said referring to the golden retriever that was relaxing by your feet. She chuckled and you couldn’t help but stare at the way her body moved as she reached for two plates that was placed in the upper cabinet. She looked gorgeous.
You we’re getting more and more sexually confused mixed with frustration over the fact you couldn’t figure yourself out. You had held hands and walked together, was that just something good friends did? Were you maybe more than friends? Were you moving too fast? Is this what a crush feels like? You had always just chosen boys too have crushes on and you had always been too scared to approach someone who showed any interest at all. You basically had no clue what a crush felt like. Or real attraction or romantic interest for that sake since all you had ever really been chasing was validation and praise. The validation and praise neither your mother nor father had ever really shown. This had led to unhealthy and manipulative relationships that had made you too scared to move into anything involving romance. So no experience, no idea what was happening and what was most likely a huge ass crush on a woman you’d just met. Huge oh shit.
You were seated on the couch eating pizza next to Kate while you watched a Christmas Sitcom. The only sounds that could be heard we’re Lucky’s occasional sniffles and Kates adorable laugh when the characters of the show would do something stupid. You laughed along even though all your attention was on the dark haired girl besides you as you pondered if you should make a move. It was risky and it might ruin everything and you didn’t even know if it was what you wanted but at the same time you felt like you wanted more than just a friendship. But did she feel the same way about you?
All your questions were suddenly answered when Kate turned to look at you her eyes stared into yours in a loving manner that almost startled you. The soft look making your heart melt and all your walls crumble in front of her. “Your looking at me weird,” she chuckled. The silence was thick but yet somehow comfortable in an unexplainable way as the show continued in the background “your- your just very beautiful,” you admitted. It rolled off your tongue almost unintentionally as your eyes flickered to her lips and fell to the couch again.
“Your very beautiful too…” she finally said edging closer to you and breaking the silence making you freeze. You didn’t expect her to actually feel this way about you. not that you disliked it.
It was just unexpected. She moved impossible closer to you and placed a hand on your leg making your eyes snap up to hers again. y/e/c meeting blue in a soft moment. “Like… i mean- if you feel uncomfortable with me being this close i can just-“ she again stumbled over her own words wanting to make sure that you were comfortable
“no its ok I actually quite enjoy being close to you i just; i don’t understand my own feelings. I really enjoy being around you even though i just met you it feels like I’ve know you forever and i get this… weird fuzzy feeling when I’m close to you and it confuses me. I think this is what being in love feels like but I’ve never experienced anything like it and I don’t know if it really is love,”
Kate nodded and smiled at you lovingly “maybe… i could help you figure out if it really was love,” she said and you stared at her “id like that ,” you whispered. she moved her face closer to yours your lips connecting in pure bliss. The kiss was slow and filled with passion and love as your lips moved in sync as if made for each other. You only moved back to catch your breath and moving back to continue the perfect moment. Your hand moved up to her neck to stabilize yourself and her hands connected with your hips. The blissful moment was everything you ever wanted, her plump pink lips on yours moving in an affectionate way that only she could give you. You pulled back to catch your breath and you connected your forehead to hers your hands still on her neck.
You cuddled up to her and she chuckled at the sudden need for cuddles “was it what you thought it was then?” She laughed smiling and you leaned your head back from her stomach returning the smile. “Yup definitely love. Im never leaving this spot your stuck here,” she leaned down to kiss the top of your head her smile only growing wider. She couldn’t be happier and neither could you. You both just wanted the moment to last forever. You resting on her stomach as she held you in her arms while you watched movies, the occasional kiss and the closeness between you making it comfortable for you both to relax into each other’s touch completely.
