"Huh?"

There seems to be a virus or some sort of malware going around causing blogs to “send out” chat messages to blogs that they follow asking for help with the purchase of certain items through donations of seemingly small amounts using bitcoin and adds a link to the message.

The message goes as following (at least the first message I got went like this): “Hi there buddy. I need help, I’m trying to buy a laptop and I can’t afford it. I’m about 0.36$ short, and I’d really appreciate if you could help me and transfer some money to me via bitcoin using this *link*.”

The small details in the message seems to have a few variations with the greeting, amount and purchased item showing up in different variations from formal to friendly, from 0.016 to 2$ and from a phone case to a laptop among others.

The blogs that are affected send out the messages to blogs that they follow for a long time mostly, so you are most likely to receive the message from a long time, active follower whose name you might recognize or a mutual etc. The blogs that are affected are not spam bots but actual active followers who follow the recipient for months or years and most likely the blogger who “sent” the message is unaware of the message being sent.

Opening up the link will cause the virus to spread even more and infect your computer/mobile with any sort of malware.

“It’s not selfish–I’m doing it for Tailor! You didn’t see how b-beat up he was!” And that’s a bit of a lie–Onyx is at least partially doing it for herself. Still, she needs to convince Lance.

“Just let me help? Pleeeeeeeease?”

Taking a deep breath, he slowly looks her over, nodding a small bit later. 

“Cuz they beat Tailor up!” She’s bouncing eagerly now, hands on Lance'a desk. “That’s f-fair, right? Someone oughta teach THEM what it feels like, and g-give them a reason not to do it again!”

That, and she likes fighting. A chance at a parent condoned excuse to attack someone is too good to pass up.

“I wanna beat THEM up!” Onyx had asked around, but she doesn’t know many people and isn’t well liked. Either no one knew who had assaulted Tailor, or no one wanted to tell her.

“Let me help!”

Now that…was a difficult request for him to fulfill. He could see the desire to do something in Onyx’s eyes, but he didn´t want her to do this out of rage, it would only end up causing trouble.

Onyx frowns deeply. “Someone beat Tailor up… Like–REALLY beat him up! He was a mess… And he wouldn’t s-say who did it! But he was really hurt, and it sounded like whoever did it’s done it before…”

“…in moments like this, sometimes you have to go against someones wishes. If they don´t get punished, they might continue their behavior. Thank you for letting me know, I´ll see if I can find out who they were.”
