   he’s already in an awful mood. between having to pick up camp and bolt from the city over ahead of schedule and barely making it out of an arbitrary firefight with a couple of thugs, the last thing jack needs now is some pseudo-interrogation from his bartender of all people. it’s hard enough to ask for help as is, and this guy’s been making it worse with every seemingly apathetic glance.

   because while jack might not be the best at intel, he likes to imagine he’s at the very least good at understanding people; he wouldn’t have holed up himself up here for the time being if he knew he’d be turned away when it mattered most.

      TO SAY DILUC WAS SURPRISED WOULD BE AN UNDERSTATEMENT .    he tried his best to keep his vigilante work SEPARATE from his career as a bartender ,   &&  a wine tycoon .   it seemed that was becoming less &&  less possible .  

      he was living comfortably ,  owning a large chunk of the alcohol industry &&  all .   being offered pay for doing his vigilante work would be RIDICULOUS ,  &&  truthfully ,  probably immoral ,   to some extent .   he never signed up to do vigilante work for pay .   they did it because they felt they NEEDED to ,   nothing more .

      red eyes peer distastefully at the masked man before him .   he had to understand this was not a topic to discuss in PUBLIC .    they’re watchful of the patrons softly chatting around them ,  looking to make sure no one was actively watching their conversation .   diluc looks back at the vigilante  (  he has to assume ;  one vigilante should know how to spot another  )  &&  sighs .   he grabs a rag ,  &&  begins to clean and wipe off the glasses before him .   he needs to THINK .

     it had been a while since childe had last been home (maybe not a LONG while but a few days felt like an eternity to them). giving polite greetings to maids and other employees as they search the house for a very SPECIFIC redhead. finally finding his husband in their usual spot in the study and almost IMMEDIATELY running over like a puppy; giving a quick " i'm home. " before lips meet in a HUNGRY kiss to show how much they missed him. 

      RED EYES SPARKLED IN SURPRISE .    he had not known when ajax would be on their way home ,   but his return was  WELCOMED  .   diluc had grown terribly lonely without their husband here to accompany him .   their grin was WIDE ,  eyes crinkling in the corners .   eyes closed as their lips met ,  gloved hands grasped TIGHTLY onto childe ,  turning his head to deepen their kiss .   he hummed ,  pleased ,  reluctant to pull away .

      BROWS KNIT IN FRUSTRATION .    this  ...  wasn’t adding up .   they bite at his lip ,  calloused fingers rubbing at the corner of his jaw .   eyes flicker up to the traveler .   it had to be UNTRUE that he had connections to the abyss .   hadn’t aether helped diluc fight the abyss MULTIPLE times ?    it had to be a misunderstanding .

      but if it wasn’t . . .  who knew how much he’d been actually kept HIDDEN ?   what lies ?    he’d heard rumors about the leader of the abyss ,   and how it was possibly aether’s sibling .    could that be true ?
