So, as we know, the next episode of season three is titled The Death of Superman. Now you’re lead to believe that Clark will die, but….

It appears that Clark lives because he appears in these episodes. So: Debate with me, what is ‘The’ Death of Superman?

this is happening on day 1081 of the mission

exactly a year ago would be day 716 which is right in the middle of the period after eiffel goes missing (day 666) but before minkowski calls command for help (day 782)

Hilbert’s christmas betrayal was day 580, just under a year and a half ago

So, as I see it, the main two options are either

a) as soon as command received the call on christmas, they immediately faked the crew’s deaths. The plan was for hilbert to kill them all and just because he failed doesn’t mean command was going to let them live

b) command said they would be closely monitoring the logs post-christmas and whatever minkowski said about the initial contact event/eiffel’s disappearance prompted them into action.
