Library on Wheels
Talking about education, though India is undoubtedly one of the many countries leading in numerous fields of science but has a lot of work to do when compared to its western counterparts. Indian education system has always been in the limelight as around 24% of the population still has no access to education with 80% of them living in rural areas. Recent studies have shown how the face of education in rural parts of the country have developed to a great extent, but some remote areas still do need a serious checkup with children failing to receive basic quality education. Quality and access to education is the major concern in rural schools as there are fewer committed teachers, lack of proper textbooks and learning material. Poverty is one of the major setback for this problem. Though people in rural areas are gradually getting aware of the importance of education, but with meagre incomes, most of them are unable to send their children to private schools and give them quality education. As we know, Indian education system focuses more on theoretical part rather than the practical part, this is also a major reason for children losing interest in education. It is high time that our government realizes the importance of literacy and take steps to bring about a positive change towards the development of rural education in India. It is also the responsibility of the citizens of India to monetarily help volunteers who are keen on bringing a change and are working towards this good cause.
Deeva foundation, a charity organization for distressed and underprivileged people of India is just taking the initiative to help children in rural areas get quality education. Deeva Foundation’s visionary team has taken up successful projects in the past are working towards child rights and upliftment of the girl child.
Deeva foundation collaborated with Bitgiving to raise funds for ‘Library on Wheels’ campaign. Bitgiving is one of the very few crowdfunding platforms in India that helps in raising funds for social, environmental projects online. Bitgiving realised the importance of quality education in rural areas and is doing its best in raising money for this cause.
Deeva Foundation is planning on building a mobile library which will get rural students to get as much resources as urban children. Their volunteers aim at promoting the cause of education so that parents motivate their children to join schools. With this project they aim to provide LCDs in vans, along with books and magazines so that visual information can be displayed and education can be made more interesting for the children.
Their initiative will require funds for buying books, newspapers, magazines, computers, projectors and a well equipped van/mini truck for establishing a library. The estimated funds that Deeva foundation requires is around Rs. 5 Lacs which includes Rs 1,50,000 for books and magazines. It also includes Rs 50,000 and 30,000 for projectors and furniture respectively. There estimated cost of a 6 wheeler mini truck with a bookshelf is around Rs 85,000. The estimated wages of the workers and helpers involved will be around Rs 20K.
This foundation is doing everything possible for the betterment of the lives of these children in rural areas. It is our duty to help them carry out this initiative successfully. Any kind of help is wholeheartedly welcome. It is important that we all play our part in making this initiative a huge success Everyone can do simple things to make a difference, and every little bit really does count.
A very famous quote by Desmond Tutu says ‘Do your little bit of good where you are; its those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world’.
