Biscuit’s Games of 2021 and Personal Game of the Year
So, my hiatus went on far much longer than I figured. I think it was mostly because I didn’t really play many video games this year. In fact, most of what I started, I ended up just dropping part way through.
In 2017, I actually started to record and track all the games that I play through and complete throughout the year. I usually average anywhere between the high 20s or low 30s. This year I only finished 10 games. Two of them don’t really have a “definitive end” it’s just whenever you feel like no longer playing. It would have been more interesting if I recorded games that I started as well and didn’t finish, but perhaps that’s for another year.
With my game of the year, I usually go through the games that I played that came out during that year. Of those 10 games, one actually came out in 2021, and the other one, which is an MMO, had a new expansion that came out in 2021.
For this year in review, I'm just going to list the games I finished and do mini reviews. I’m hoping this will sort of make up for lack of content in 2021. The order these will be in will not be in any particular order, I’m just going down the list of games I completed as I recorded them throughout the year.
Now, let’s go over what I played and finished in 2021.
Biscuit Reviews Cyberpunk 2077
I don’t think anyone expected Cyberpunk 2077 to fall as hard as it did. I know many people joked about it and it was always nagging in the back of our minds, “What if this game ends up sucking?”
Turns out, that nagging feeling was kind of right.
Now when I played Cyberpunk 2077, it was on PC. I am aware of the unplayable state that has been reported on consoles. If you did get the game on consoles and want to get a refund, I highly recommend following the refund process that Sony and Microsoft have laid out to get a refund if you so choose to pursue one.
There is so much material for the PR story of Cyberpunk 2077 to be pretty much its own post at this point. I know of the harsh demands that were required of the developers for this game. This was highlighted more in a recent investigative report by Jason Scherier. In the article, developers working on Cyberpunk 2077 explained that they were aiming for a 2022 release, but were pushed to 2020. Crunch culture not only affects the game industry, but software development in general and it’s a horrible practice. We need to hold these companies to task and support the unionization of gaming developers to where they can have the numbers to negotiate for better work conditions.
I’ll admit, I was actually torn on reviewing this game. Should I review it now? Should I wait until the patches? I kept going back and forth until finally I decided to move forward with the review. I’m moving forward because I want to be an unfiltered voice for this game.
Because that’s what critics do. That’s what you should expect from your trusted critic source. I do also want to be upfront with this as well. I will be making some comparisons to Witcher III, but it’s more along the lines of comparing mechanics as both games do have a few similarities in that regard.
Biscuit’s Top Games of 2020 and Game of the Year
2020 has been quite a turbulent year. In fact this year, I actually didn’t really play a whole lot of new games, but the news ones I did play, I actually really enjoyed...for the most part. Like in all of my end of year recaps, the games are in no particular order of enjoyment with the exception of the one that I mark as my personal Game of the Year. I do have two honorary mentions as well that I am going to talk about first before going into my favorites.
Biscuit Reviews Super Mario 64
What hasn’t been said about Super Mario 64? We all know this game to be what established the baseline of 3D gaming. Many of my peers and friends hold this particular title in high regard. I also have nostalgic feelings for this particular title as it was the first N64 game that I bought by saving up my allowance as a kid.
However, is Super Mario 64, a game that still holds up like the other Mario games that have come before it?
State of Biscuit End of 2020
Hello everyone!
Super Mario 64 will be my last review for 2020 which I’ll post in the coming days.
Similar to how 2020 started for the blog, I imagine it will be a slow output in terms of game reviews as I am predicting Cyberpunk to take a lot of time to play and digest. I’m currently playing through Assassin’s Creed Valhalla right now and that will be my first review of 2021.
That was always the plan with that review, post it in 2021. I was hoping to actually have it done and start writing the review by little bits through December. I’m still on pace for that, but it’s definitely taking longer than I thought because I keep hitting small little hiccups and even progress halting bugs depending on choices with a few quests
With that said, I will also only have one other post for 2020, which will of course be the best games I played in 2020 which will include my personal pick for Game Of The Year.
I do plan to have more Star Trek content as well. People responded very positively to that content so I hope to produce more on and off during the life of Biscuit Reviews. For 2021 as far as Star Trek goes, I’ll be starting with my Discovery Season 3 and Lower Decks reviews. I ended up shelving my Picard season 1 review because I was never personally satisfied with that particular review. That and what was half of my review ended up being a new post and topic on its own, which was the Seven of Nine theory post. I do plan to pick that review back up and work on it to have it posted at some point. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll review a Star Trek game in the future. I just need to figure out which game to review and what games I can actually feasibly access. Star Trek games are something that do not get properly archived and catalogued I’ve learned, so many of those games that I played in the past are extremely difficult to find.
I might be posting those reviews in the lull that is expected after my Valhalla review. I also want to do another game review inbetween Valhalla and Cyberpunk 2077, mainly because I think it would be amazing to have Cyberpunk be the 77th game review.
Looking forward to more reviews and the occasional non-review opinions for 2021!

Biscuit Reviews Assassin’s Creed III Remastered
Lately, I’ve been in a bit of an Assassin’s Creed mood. Could be because the next entry and introduction to the next generation of gaming is fast approaching with Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla So I figured why not pick up where I left off when reviewing the backlog of Assassin’s Creed titles by reviewing Assassin’s Creed III. For the purposes of this review, I will actually be looking at the Remastered version on the PS4.
Biscuit Reviews Super Mario Sunshine
Of all the games that were released in the Super Mario 3D All Stars Pack, Super Mario Sunshine was the one I was looking the most forward to playing. Mainly because this is the one game in the pack I never actually completed. I did play it, but I never really got far into it, mostly it was using the new FLUDD water pack that turned me away from the game.
Now with a new chance to play this game, I figured what better way than to play it as an adult who now knows that different and unique mechanics is just how Nintendo rolls sometimes.
Biscuit Replays Assassin’s Creed: Origins
I feel that even if you reviewed a game in the past, it pays to go back and re-examine it. Especially today when games get patched, have new free content and paid DLC expansions. When initially reviewing a game you could be too hard or maybe even too easy on it because of particular things you really liked or didn’t like.Â
When I was comparing my reviews with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Origins. I figured, maybe I was a little too hard on Origins. With the extra things added in and the DLC being on sale where I got both campaign add-ons for a grand total of $10, I thought maybe I was too hard on Origins because it was such a big departure from what the series used to be.Â
So let’s make it the first in a new series called “Biscuit Replays”, a series where I re-review games that got the “Biscuit Reviews'' treatment.
Assassin’s Creed Origins original score was a 2 out of 5. How I’m going to review it this time is the whole package as it stands now, with DLC and everything.
Biscuit Reviews Okami
I remember when Okami was released in 2006 it came on the heels of Shadow of the Colossus which had resparked the whole “Can Video Games Be Considered Art?” debate. While Shadow of the Colossus brought it back, Okami cemented the argument that “Yes, Video Games can be Art.” It’s probably why we keep seeing Okami being remastered along with Shadow of the Colossus because of their importance to history with gaming and the debate itself.
As for my history with Okami itself I’ve played it multiple times, but I never finished it. I never had issues with the game, it’s just something would come up and distract me away from it. With the latest remaster and picking it up on a sale for $10, I figured maybe now it was finally time to sit down and play this game.
Biscuit Reviews Among Us
I think I just might need to revisit my “not multiplayer only games” policy for this blog, especially since this is now my third in this particular genre. This time I’m reviewing the latest multiplayer darling of the internet, Among Us, developed by InnerSloth and released in 2018. It just goes to show you that with viral sensations, you really can’t predict what will go viral and when.
As I do in my other multiplayer reviews, this review was posted on October 6, 2020, so keep that in mind when looking into reviews for this game as many things could have been added or changed since this review was posted.

Games That A lot of People Love, But Biscuit Does Not.
With so many games, there are times where some titles just aren’t for everybody and that’s ok. I certainly have a few games that everyone likes that I don’t, just like people have games that I love, but they don’t like them.
Keep in mind that for this list I do see the appeal to all of these games and I do acknowledge what each of these brought to the specific genre, series, or gaming as a whole. But sometimes, things just don’t click for everyone.
I’m fully aware that some of the games listed might make you the reader go “WTF Biscuit, how can you not like this game?! It’s great, amazing, it’s 5 out of 5!” Although you might very well feel that way, sometimes seeing opinions on the opposite side of things can bring a new perspective.
The games I’m going to list aren’t in any particular order. Just simply the game and the reason why I don’t like it.
Biscuit Reviews Super Mario Bros.
To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Super Mario Bros. franchise, I thought it would be great to go back and review the game that started it all. Super Mario Bros. for the NES which came out in 1985.
What more can be said about this game that hasn’t already been said. It has been credited on saving the video game market from the video game crash that started in 1983, World 1-1 has been dissected as a great tutorial level (more on that in the review), and it was highly replayable in terms of searching for more secrets, shortcuts, and simply trying get to the end as fast as possible. The last point would serve as the inspiration for Sonic the Hedgehog. Yeah, Mario inspired his greatest mascot rival with the creator of Sonic always wanting to get through World 1-1 as fast as possible.
For this particular review I am reviewing the Switch version that is available on the NES Emulator through Nintendo Switch’s online service.
