Bird with a Kitkat

Question 1:

“Are the designs based off of any particular birds?”

They infact are! Though very loosely for Moon and Eclipses designs.

I had a handful of other designs that were more accurate to the bird species they were based off of, but I decided to take creative liberties as none of them had the right pizzazz. Also it would just have made them look very boring if I stuck to their original species patterns/colors.

The birds they’re based off of are: Black Palm Cockatoo, Sun Conure, and Groove-Billed Ani.

A small fun fact about Eclipse in this AU, he was originally going to be a bearded vulture! Though it was scrapped as I figured the lab wouldn’t want a meat eater housed with a bunch of herbivores.

Question 2:

“Do they have any bird-y qualities/habits?”

They do! I personally am a sucker for characters with animalistic qualities, so this AU is jam packed full of them!

Just a few I can list off the top of my head are:

• Eclipse having the ability to scream / squawk like an actually cockatoo. (If you don’t know what that sounds like, please look it up. It’s genuinely hilarious to associate Eclipse with that sound in my writing whenever he gets frustrated or pissed off.)

• Sun out of the trio is the one most likely to chirp out a toon! Though all three have the ability to sing. (Unfortunately none of them can mimic sounds </3)

• They do in-fact build nests. They’re often made out of organic materials such as tall grass or bendy twigs, but due to them being held in captivity. Other items like pillows and bedding are provided to them!

• Preening is also another thing they do! I cannot wait to write about that in a future chapter.

• They don’t exactly have access to shiny objects, but they do enjoy the brightly colored flowers and fauna that are dotted around their enclosure!

Just a whole bunch of stuff!

Question 3:

“How robotic vs. organic are they?”

They’re fully organic, no robots here! (at least if you don’t count Roxanne who’s fully animatronic in this fic.) Animatronics are present in this AU, but Roxanne’s the only one ever mentioned.

Avians are just a normal ‘animal’ in this world, and are simply consider an exotic species! They do have intelligent qualities to them, but in this world they’re seen more as a lesser life form.

When in captivity they’re more so seen/used as pets, entertainment for shows, or even in some cases food and fashion for the wealthy. (Though it is highly illegal)

Wild populations do have small towns, but they are very few and far between due to deforestation and hunting.

Wow that’s a lot of text, apologies. I usually stray away from longer posts like this that solely rely on me info dumping, but I just couldn’t let this comment pass by me without responding!

Random side tangent, but I’m only just now realizing I’m becoming an actual ‘established’ AO3 writer with a following. Because what do you mean with the simple press of the post button, this soon to be new chapter is going to be announced to fifty-one people?? Like, in their emails???

Why do I have that much power.

Honestly, if I could make them cartoony I would as these reference designs completely destroy the flow of my account. But beggars can’t be choosers.

I do have a cartoony version of Sun and Moon already made though for regular posting, so maybe that’ll fix this artistic sin. (ㅠ﹏ㅠ)
