ADHD And The Endless Questions

My son asks a lot of questions. Sometimes they are scary.

The other day he asked me, ” If you kill a dog what food do you get?” After I recovered from shock I said we don’t kill and eat dogs.

( I am not going to tell him his grandmother went to China and they do there!)

“But we kill and eat Turkeys…and cows…pigs…What about lambs?”

Prayer Rock and Printable

  On the last day of CCD I brought rocks to class and heart stickers.

The children picked a rock and puffy sticker to place on their rock.

You’ve Got Nothing To Lose

This is a picture of my living room chair. Yes, it’s sitting on my driveway now. No, I’m not doing a Tide commercial. Our dog threw up on it and even though I used various fabric cleaners it still smelled horrible. So my son had an idea-to pour  tide with color safe bleach on it and then rinse it off (hose) and let it dry outside.

This is a recipe my friend Amy gave me years ago. It is so unusual and tastes amazing. If you are trying to impress someone you should make this pie for them.

  For the crust:

40 Nilla Wafers crushed up

1/2 cup sweetened flaked coconut

1/2 cup roasted macadamia nuts crushed up

1/3 cup melted butter

Lily Pads and ADHD

  I was putting my son to bed the other night and he said,

“Why did God give me ADHD? I want to be like other kids… like Reesa, Kaylee and Chase ( his siblings) and then he added … God is mean!”

Of course it broke my heart to hear him say this but then I really listened beyond  his words and asked him a question -

“Why do you feel this way?”

He told me he feels badly when he’s mean and hurts…

  This was easily thrown together and so delicious.

It would be great for a picnic or neighborhood party!

You will need:

1/2 cup butter

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup sugar

1 Tablespoon baking powder

1/8 teaspoon salt

2/3 cup milk

16 ounces blackberries

Playroom make-over on a budget

  We made our porch part of our home two years ago to give the littlest member of our family his own playroom.

There is a large wall without a window (on the side) which is perfect for organizing all his little toys. I bought and put together from Target three shelving units with pop up bins.

The artwork I’ve collected over the years. They move from room to room but finally have another home…

  It rains here in Florida many afternoons so we do our crafting then!

This homemade clay was great and then we baked it in the oven and painted it.

I think the painting is my son’s favorite part.

  To make the clay:

4 cups flour

1 cup salt

1 1/2 cup water

Mix it up!   I think you could add some food coloring at this point if you didn’t want to paint it.

Shrimp with Spaghetti Squash

We had a great deal of spaghetti squash left over the other night so my daughter found this recipe and we really loved it.

You can use chicken or shrimp or both.

Ingredients:

1 spaghetti squash

2 T. extra-virgin olive oil

2 garlic cloves, crushed

1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes

1/4 tsp ground garlic

2 handfuls of spinach leaves

grape tomatoes -ours were from my neighbors garden and tasted amazing :)

Wild and Precious Life

  My daughter just finished a painting for her sister.

She started with an old canvas and just painted several coats over the existing art.

This was a great way to recycle art!

She sketched the quote out in pencil from a template she found on pinterest.

This time she used a paint pen for the thin black lines.

This made it easier and more precise.

Painting is just another way of keeping a diary.

Phobias and My Family

My daughter has arachnophobia. I woke up one night feeling claustrophobic when I realized … in addition to  my 7 year old son and mini Labradoodle there was also my 22 year old daughter in my bed. In the morning she told me there was a big spider in her room last night- so she fled, shut the door and even stuffed a towel in the crack.

  This was so easy and delicious!

The hardest part for me is finding a ripe avocado at our grocery store.

You will need three ripe ones!

Also, 1/2 tomato, chopped

1/4 onion, chopped

juice of 1 lime

lemon juice to taste

salt and pepper to taste
