Pinguicula vulgaris
is a perennial carnivorous plant found in damp environments such as bogs and swamps. It is native to most countries in Europe, as well as Canada and the United States. The foliage is covered in tiny sticky trichomes that prevent unlucky insects from escaping while they are slowly digested. I was fortunate enough to find these while hiking in Liard Hotsprings Provincial Park.
We took a moment to rest on the banks of a glacial river along the Alaskan Highway #97
Liard Hot Springs Provincial Park, British Columbia:
Established in 1957, the park is comprised of 1082 hectares of lush boreal spruce forest and warm water swampland. This unique combination supports rich and diverse plant communities as well as mammal and bird species. Due to the plant life influenced by the warmth of the springs, the area was once known as the “Tropical Valley.”
This was our only stop while road tripping from Calgary to Dawson City.

travel update
Hey friends, my BC trip lasted 3 months in total, exploring all of Vancouver Island, and crossing Canada to get home again. Camping, hitchhiking, seeing new places everyday. It was my greatest adventure yet.
The Fujifilm camera I bought to photograph the trip glitched out and became obsolete on day 3. This was heartbreaking for me. I did take pictures with my backup video camera, but even the best of them are grainy. I will post some of them, but they are not what I had hoped. I’m sorry. Please understand.
Next week on August 23rd I will road trip further north than I have ever been - to the Yukon. I picked up another camera (and a backup body for it), and I’ve been learning to use it in the last couple weeks. I’ll my best to capture the Yukon.
Check ya later!
P.S. feel free to ask questions and talk to me whenever.
