"instant gratification" panel 2 girl smiling cheerfully with one marshmallow
I am trying to make sense of the idea that in any real sense constructing a (permanent) time loop is harmful to those who exist in a time outside of the time loop (almost entirely the past). Like even if you can construct an argument that this means the other times "don't exist" (which seems nonsensical. you take a train going along tracks and then divert it into a loop and the rest of it still... exist? and in the case of time everything still *happened* because time is causal) I don't think 'causing somebody to not exist' is necessarily a harm. As in like who is it harming. If I had the 'erase people from existence somehow without causing material change' machine barring other elements of the situation, I would think I have reason not to erase myself and some degree of obligation not to erase other people though. But I don't think you can compare the worlds in which you use the machine and the ones in which you don't.
I mean I encountered the idea in the context of a text which might've had broader implications I didn't pick up on (i.e. if it is established that other time periods would other wise "exist") but it does kind of feel like they needed a reason that making a time loop is bad actually. But I would have preferred they just say 'the time loop is bad because one of the several villains actually wants to use the time loop for evil purposes' instead of trying to create a moral objection. It does very little for the story besides induce a vague sense that the thing that seemed good actually has bad reprecussions. It's a kind of fun sense but doesn't tie into anything. And I just can't find sense in this explanation and yet it's described like it's normal.
they need to invent a good time for doing things that is not "when i'm sleepy"
Whatever I didn't want to write that tumblr post anyways... probably would have been a terrible post.

Um actually my dad has very good political opinions because he still calls me boss even though i'm a woman now. #girlboss #girlfailures can be bosses too
Like a month or two ago i was sitting around and then I was like 'oh clearly I should do a large writing project (series of essays) and post it online' and this worked for like a good bit but then in a very predictable move i got a bit stuck and then my mental state changed and I was like 'i'm not doing this' and then things got worse but now they're significantly better perhaps I should continue on this I only feel a little bit of apprehension towards the idea of continuing on my way with the project.
(Shortly after writing this i proceeded to get distracted by other possible things for me to do. I'm not really chomping at the bit to update a list since the list is the motivation-ender but if there's no list i might forget. So i just need to try realllly hard to remember for long enough.)
(^ Hi ok i came here because I thought I had a change of heart when it came to how I feel about lists they are very nice data structures and rewarding to complete! But then I thought about the specific use case and became distrusting kind of. It could be the deadlines? Or the sense that things must be prioritized over one another. Phrasing it like that makes it seem good again.)
Obviously I come from a different perspective and mentality to other people on this matter but it's like. rather easy to put & keep in place restrictions against bad interaction with online phenomena. I can just uninstall the videogame and never really think of getting it back no matter how many hours i spent on it because it means nothing to me. Sometimes I will get it back when I am in a bad mood and deem it to be a good use of my time but then it disappears again once I recognize the effects of the behavior. When tumblr is not providing value to me I can log out and then even if I open the tab my instinct I don't want to go through the steps to log back in. I recently turned off youtube reccomendations (delete past watch history + current one) because it was another tmie sink to no value and I am *slightly* more tempted to turn it back but I just don't. It's rather odd this isn't how one would expect things to work surely it's a minimal barrier and yet it does a lot. Perhaps I am just too lazy?
It feels odd that (in my experience) time travel is such a recurring element in death game visual novels & the adjacent (particularly when they are not Danganronpa or Battle Royale/Hunger Games). But also it does make sense a lot of the time even outside of 'well a lot of the big inspirations have done it'. You want the characters to die but you also want to spend time with them (which it's arguably bad to try to have both). This is particularly seen in ones modeled after mafia (Gnosia, Raging Loop, that one that was kind of bad, possibly another one). When you are playing mafia with friends you don't just play one game. And it lets you put diffeerent characters in different situations and see how they act. This makes enough sense. And then you want an overlying story (& don't want your character to continue entering with no knowledge) so it becomes in-universe time travel. Some of these can apply to other sorts of games
I think depending on the game (most of them are spoilers) it can also just generally add to the point. It feels very impossible if you are forced to take some bad endings, use the unexpected force of time travel to use the information gained in order to save people. The odds can feel stacked against you & you're encouraged to interact with more of the game. But I'm not entirely sure this is good? There is already an issue with like how visual novel routes are intended to be interacted with. It is typical to read through all endings, saving before decision points for easy access & very atypical to just be content with one of many different ones. But this necessarily devalues each individual ending and the contents of the route. You could then look at hit holistically in a sense. But it devalues the individual decision, it's not really *yours*. You might still have a preference towards one option or the other but if part of the whole experience is that you try everything, your experience is by definition less unique. Though maybe this is kind of mischaracterizing the games. Most of them are not really that serious. They are characters undergoing a situation. More situation.
Third reason: a lot of the motivation for 'why kidnap a bunch of people and force them to play a game that involves dying' is 'i want to save this person from their fate' or the liike. inherently time travel conecpt.
I like writing. I don't like encountering things that I have written (possibly explained by my critical eye being turned on it? my previous hypothesis is that it tends to feel foreign to my identity). Unfortunately writing is (most often) not completed in a single sitting and so that which is being written quickly turns into that which has been written.

Concepts I do not have a good grasp on even though they are very important and presumably other people know:
-How intellectual labor functions and what goes into making something 'of quality'
-What it means to act ethically and in particular in relation to other people
-What sorts of things are bounded by the idea of a 'self' (and in a similar vein how exactly it is that myself/other people function on an internal level)
Notably these are, to a degree, self-perpetuating, as I cannot very well ask other people (for that might be gregiously irresponsible, and besides I often lack the understanding to know what questions to ask) and even ignoring the limits of consulting within myself, both universal and particular, I also lack the structure to be able to do that consistently and rigorously.
If only I had power over Images (both ability to draw and to visualize images in my head in focus) i would be so powerful... yet I have been denied it in every capacity despite my feeble attempts. Give me the right magical artifact and I could be a villain in one of those kids movies
meow meow i'm quite grateful for my ability to ignore things that should be causing me distress. I don't like being in distress! What effect is this having on me? Hmmm. I'm not really paying attention to that one.
fun character types
character who is not allowed to kill themself
related: suicidal character who physically can't kill themself
alive character who has successfully committed suicide
character who hasn't died but has committed thematic suicide of the Self
character who thinks they're suffering karmic punishment for killing/trying to kill themself
fashion is all about striking a balance of good and evil. for example this necklace is pure evil, but it goes amazing with this pure hearted skirt

there was a really cool poem in my dream and i was reading/singing it and having fun but i forgot all of it... :( it had a fun meter and flowed really well despite a simple vocabulary. unfortunately i latched more onto other snippets
You don't see a lot of zoomers making 'book bad phone good' comics... curious.
