Weekend Recap 7 rainy miles in Seattle with my favorite guy to run alongside, my big bro. Hopped on the trail along Lake Union passing Husky Stadium, then hustled back to the Airbnb. I ran just 19 miles last week over 3 days. A super light week and a poor diet while on our trip to Seattle has me feeling anxious to get back out there and get after it.
Signed up! In for my first ever trail race. 22k at Malibu Creek State Park on 5/19. Steep climbs and beautiful scenery expected.
Today’s Workout Put in some solid pace miles this morning. Traveling tomorrow and taking the day off, so had to make today’s workout count!

Here are the words from his latest post below.
Fight Until You Hear the Bell! If you drop your arms before you hear the bell, you are going to get knocked the fuck out! As humans, we fall in love with the idea of being someone great. The second we hit a roadblock in our plan to greatness, a lot of us throw in the towel. Instead of giving up on your goals, learn to look at it from a different angle. It’s important in life not to be fixed-minded. The journey you are on is constantly changing. You have to be willing to compromise. Sometimes you have to be willing to let go of your original plan. A lot of us don’t want to get our hands dirty when shit gets hard. You have to have the self-discipline to see your plan through until the end. Self-discipline is so important because very few of us have anyone who is going to wake us up in the morning to keep us on track. Stop relying on other people to push you, encourage you, coach you, etc. You have to establish habits that make it second nature to keep your hands up in the fight until you hear the bell. You also have to be ready for a cheap shot after the bell! Your best work has to come when you have the least inspiration. It’s on those days that you have to remind yourself why the fuck you are even doing what you are doing. You can not drop your arms just because you are tired!! If you want to achieve greatness in life, it comes with a huge compromise in your life. To be a doctor, it takes about 13 years after high school. To be a lawyer, it takes about 7 years. To be a professional athlete, it can consume your whole life. To train for a marathon, it can take a runner 16 weeks of training. In all of these instances, you are compromising time with friends, family, social time, maybe sleep, etc. Only you can define the meaning of success to you. Everybody is different. Judging and comparing yourself to other people is a fucking waste of time. If you are one of those people looking for more, you will have to sacrifice. Sticking with sports analogies, if you don’t play until you hear the whistle, don’t be surprised when life knocks you on your ass!

Race Recap - Nike LA 10K
Still on a high from all those PR’s this past Sunday! I was flying in Mile 2 and probably could’ve knocked off a good 15 seconds from Mile 1 if i didn’t have to bob and weave thru the slow pokes who lined up at the very front of the start line.Â
This is why
Nike is my favorite brand. Instead of a throw-away finisher t-shirt, they gave all finishers wireless beats headphones. It was a $50 entry fee and they gave away these legit $200 headphones. Blown away, the race was well orchestrated with a clean course, Gold medal Olympians giving pre-race pep talks and a great event at the end of the race. This prize was just a cherry on top.Â
Results are in
I finished in 95th place overall out of 7,000 finishers in the Nike LA 10K race. I average 6:30 pace and pushed myself to the limit. I was the 80th male finisher and the data isn’t available, but i’d love to know my age group finish. I’m sure it’s legit.Â

Pre race
Ready to go for the Nike LA 10K. Took the fam to pickup my race bib and ready to have some fun on the course.Â
Scheduled REST DAY TODAY like {hit the music above}!
This Week’s Workouts
Week 5
Life has been busy and i’ve been slow to post my updates on my runs, but fear not i’ve been logging the mileage. I knocked out a 15 mile run this past Saturday and an 8 mile run yesterday. More to come, just 4 weeks away from the Malibu Creek 22k trail race!
Speed checkÂ
This Sunday i’m running the Nike LA 10K. Nike is shutting down a damn freeway in Los Angeles, it’s gonna be legit. This is the first race less than a marathon i’ve run since a Turkey Trot a few years back. I haven’t really pushed the limits of my speed much beyond interval days, so i’m anxious to see what i can get done with the fire of a little friendly race competition going. Here goes nothing.Â
Breakfast of Champions
When you run 7:28 pace for 8 miles, you better treat yourself to a nice breakfast to follow. Done and done.
Coffee:
Cup of coffee with a 1 tsp of agave and 2 tsp of coconut oil in the Vitamix. Frothy and delicious.Â
Oatmeal:
Instant Irish oats with 2 tbs peanut butter mixed in, plus a half banana and all the berries i can get. Chunky and delicious.

Long Run Motivation
Get fired up and make the most of your long run this weekend, this is an incredible 55 minute documentary, “Breaking2,″ from National Geographic in collaboration with Nike. The mega shoe brand set out to accomplish the unthinkable- shatter the marathon record and get one of the world’s fastest distance runners to complete a sub 2-hour marathon. This feat got a lot of press and even if you’ve heard about it previously, it’s worth the watch. And amazing to think what the human body is capable of accomplishing with the perfect conditions and training.Â
Today’s WorkoutÂ
 Friday, Week 4
The video’s not pretty and the day wasn’t pretty out this morning either out near the Santa Monica pier. It was windy and the sand was whipping around and slapping me in the shin. A lovely way to wake up. I knocked out a 35 minute run, working through a little soreness and am ready to go for tomorrow’s long run. Happy Friday all.
