Thunderbirds are Go meets Toy Story? Certainly looks like it. Iâm delighted to see something new from TAG but also a bit confused. Did they really make a new animation in a whole new style just to advertise repeats of episodes? Thereâs a lot of merch in the background, so could this mean weâre finally going to see TAG in our stores again? I have so many questions.
Iâve been keeping an eye on Toy World Magazine but ITV has been very quiet last few months. Last update was November... Which said:
So. Yeah. There were meant to be more toys in stores now! ...BUT. Yeah. Uh. I imagine this got delayed given the toys are made in China. Given these were all modeled exactly from the newer toys released last late Spring/Summer, this probably was related to that, I suppose. =Oa
Shall have to see what pops up later in the year. Either way, wow! Two signs ITV ainât shelving the franchise (despite more eps not being on the table right now) in a month. XD That canât be bad news.Â
(Meanwhile, Iâve gotten a hold of the vid... ...man. That animation is a THING. XDDD I shall... see if I can make some caps or something. It shows whoever animated it doesnât really know how the characters move though, gosh... that is the most un-Virgil like movements ever. lololol And the voice clips sound like they might also be just the ones made for the toy... which explains why theyâre so default sounding. lmao XDDD Very interesting... I wonder what the story is behind it/where it was animated, etc. =Oa)
In Thunderbirds Are Go!, are the Tracy brothers suppose to be the same age as their original series counterparts? I've never seen the original series, but I was reading the wikia site and it had their ages. Scott (30), Virgil (27), John (25), Gordon (22), & Alan (19).
Are those there ages in TAG, too? I know that the series takes place in different years. The original in 2065 and TAG in 2060. I did some math using the years the brothers would've been born. We've you go by the year TAG is set in and use the years they were born in in the original, the brothers are a few years younger. Scott (25), Virgil (22), John (20), Gordon (17), & Alan (14). But those ages seem rather young.
They could be the same age as in the original, but have different birth years. I know that Alan graduates in The Long Reach Part 1. The typical graduation age is 18, but he could've graduated at 19.
The boys are officially younger than their TOS selves at the start of TAG. Rob Hoegee (head writer of TAG) said so in a AMA before the series premiered (and also said Scott was mid-20s) and also more recently on twitter confirmed one TAG season is about a year or so in their time. ^^
The matter of ages (and order) is a very long, confusing, messy subject when it comes to the franchise. XD Iâve tried to go over a lot of it in some posts (that I prolly need to again go back over sometime and update again lol)
(Also Alanâs grad I think depends on what school system the boys were using... (and if Alan got behind too much I guess lol) 17-18 is typical in NA... and given Alanâs birthday is March, most likely heâd have been 18... so, yeaaah. He was prolly somewhere around 15 (Or 14... but... yeah *cringe* XD) at the very start of TAG.)
If anyone is outta the loop, Big Finish are known for doing audio dramas, especially Doctor Who ones. ^^ SO. Interesting~
Though... I find myself wondering who theyâd have to do Thunderbirds ones now... Matt Zimmerman sounds a pretty far cry from Alan these days and so many of the others are gone. Thereâs really only David Graham who can pull off the characters? lol So. Yeah. I wonder what thisâll be. XDa

Here we go! First article about the new chunk of episodes... Via my fave site. Toy World! It has information about guests appearing with a description of the characters that IS kinda spoilery cause hints at what episodes (or more specifically what kinda rescues) are to come. (Perhaps about 4 or 5 more âfillerâ eps from looks of it.)
MAN. SO. I wrote a twitter thread like handful of days ago and been chatting a bit about TAGâs future a bit... just yesterday even and I canât get over the irony the very next day then TAGHQ dropped that tweet. XDDD
Anyhoo, this is edited a bit from my initial string of tweets cause I discovered a few other things of note. XD Apologies itâs SUPER long. lol
SO. TAG's end seems to be approaching... right? OR IS IT? I've seen talk of it being cancelled, but uh... how can something be cancelled that we never had indication would go past 3 seasons? It's just not had (so far) more commissioned. lol
Unless someone's read/heard something (thatâs credible!) that I haven't, that's been as far as we knew it was going so far. Series DO end, and given TAG is expensive and time consuming to make (going model/cgi hybrid def made their lives so much harder lol) it wouldn't be surprising at all to me.
Thereâs also some thought that itâs not continuing due to some amount of failure. But there's no evidence it's failed? It has sold to networks all over the world. ITV bragged the first chunk of S3 eps reached 1.4m people and was #1 kid show across their networks. The second chunk of eps increased to 2.2m! (These all coming from Toy World Magazine UK.) Three different networks bought the show here in Canada even! So the idea itâs failed seems like a stretch to me
So like. Yeah. If this is the end... fair enough imho. lol BUT. No one has really said THIS IS IT. That's what's strange even...
There's a cage-y-ness surrounding it. Everyone has spoken of the end of season 3, but really no one's claimed it to be absolute THE END of the show. In fact, ITV's behavior towards S3 has been downright strange imho.
In 2018, Season 3 started kinda surprisingly soon after the end of S2. Then it suddenly stopped before the mid-way point. It was bizarre at first until an article was uncovered, where a small reference to a new toy deal came to light. Then it did make sense. (Though bit strange new toys being made towards possibly the end of the show, but okay... ...Which is now even STRANGER since found out thereâs even MORE toys coming.)
Fast forward to London toy fair, and reps of the toys were saying first the 'property would return in June' and that the final 9 eps had been held back for the toy launch... which was meant to be in the fall. It was a bit confusing until TAG returned even sooner with 9 more eps in May.
So then it seemed like, OKAY, so last 8 will be in Fall with the toy launch. Which would make sense. The toys... the show... before Christmas... sell ALL the toys. Right? ...Wrong apparently. This is where it starts getting kinda really weird. They claim it's scheduling etc.
But why the heck would you not want the series on (Least a couple eps even?) with your new toyline that you'd want to have sell truckloads of for Christmas??? Why the delay into the new year? Which I even questioned would actually happen in January... but now it seems it IS in fact gonna be back in January.
So. WHY? I have 0 knowledge of TV toys selling, so undoubtedly I could be entirely wrong, but my gosh, in terms of common sense? This utterly baffles me. And THEN we now know in Q1 MORE toys are even about to be released. More toys. During or just after the show, allegedly, ends? What???
What exactly is ITV's game plan here??? So that aside, some other small things I've noticed...
A lot thought that interview with both David's had David Graham confirming TAG's end... but uh... pretty sure he was saying they'd wrapped recording the voices for S3 given the Q asked. (Which of course, was done a REALLY long time ago for them when came to the second part of S3. lol)
Then digging a bit cause the Wiki was still reporting Graham said no more eps were being made, apparently a written interview with him was where he was quoted as saying that, but it was rather swiftly edited. No cap exists, unfortunately, to show so. Question is was it David being mistaken or was it an misquote by the site? (Goodness knows these things happen... Many of us older fans Iâm sure recall the tiny blurb interview where Kayoâs VA suggested it was JOHN, rather than Alan, who had a thing for Kayo. It was either a slip by Kayoâs VA or a mistake by the article writer. lol) I think it says a lot that, if that DID really happen, it was DELETED rather than it being said.
Then there's an interview with the Fosters at a music event which they seemed to talk a little kinda endish... BUT when asked just after the recording for the finale of S3 if... It was THE END, the end and the reply was 'Certainly not!' and date wise, pretty sure that was after the interview at the music event was recorded. BUT then this was said over a year ago now, so who knows now.
Also in a People interview with Lee Majors he was kinda joking around but said, "If they go for a fourth season, which I hope they do, then maybe my part will have worked,â Majors jokes. âYouâll see how good I was if they donât get picked up!â
Yeah, a 4th season didnât seem to be happening when he was interviewed... but also making it apparent there was, at the time, some unknown-ness to TAG's future.
AND THEN thereâs the plans for that theme park in Kent that they said theyâd have "rides and attractions themed around ITV's Thunderbirds Are Go, and Robozuna" The later is still a fairly new show... but... TAG? It's def TAG they're wanting to use. That's AGAIN super interesting for a show that might be on the cusp of being done and would long be just in reruns by the time this park comes into being? Maybe it's not that weird at all. IDK. (Be awesome if happens!) But my common sense-a-meter is just all... *squints at ITV*
Tl;dr TAG might be over and imho it'll be understandable and doubt any failure. (Like. BTW. Richard Taylor compared making a season of TAG to making 6-7 Coraline's in a row in a year. If that's accurate... W O W. That's nuts, guys.) BUT... I've not seen commit to that's it. DONE.
Which is why my only speculation I'm really trying to present here at all is that I believe there might be some limbo going on... or least there has been. It might well be past tense at this point. There's just so many strange signals around. lol But generally towards the end of a show you see a huge loss of motivation, but weâve been only seeing more build UP about it.Â
Ultimately, weâll have to see what happens. TAGHQ is being SO specific that it is the âconclusion of season 3Ⲡand well, I just posted on my main about âThe Final Countdownâ. (But if someone reading this didnât see that... go google: final countdown europe lyrics XD Iâm 99.9% sure itâs gonna be a reference to in-show happenings... not the showâs future. XD)
SO YEAH. These have been my observations. (OH and if anyone wants sources to what I've referenced, I'll be happy to provide. :|b )
As you guys might have picked up... Toy World UK Magazine has become one of my favourite places to check for TAG! news... cause they seem to get info outta ITV more than anywhere else. lol WELL. I realized Iâd forgotten to take a look for awhile! Decemberâs isnât out yet, but I hadnât looked at Novemberâs... and looksy what I found~!
Q1 means January-March of next year... so. Yeah. MORE toys early next year! The new Tracy Island, large Scott and arm didnât show up in this batch of toys, but this suggests even more might be on the way. =Oa Interesting~

I have been wondering, where did the smother hen thing come from? I know its been in the fandom since before TAG, but I have no clue where it came fromâŚ
As someone whoâs read a LOT of the earlier fanfic on FF.net... Iâm not even too sure. Scott in TOS shows concern for his brotherâs well being, but I really canât bring to mind any point that Scott did anything to really seed that headcanon. (But I am certainly no Scott expert. XD) I think it might be a fandom headcanon that simply came about from Scott being the eldest and possibly combined with wondering how the family handled life when first lost their Mom. Then just kinda got more exaggerated and joked about? (Cause it IS amusing. XD)
(It is very interesting how some fan headcanons and lore, TAGâs writers seem to have kinda come to a similar place as fandom when it comes to characterization. TAG! Scott definitely is shown on more than one occasion to have a protective streak. (That just broke a bit in like Recharge, so Virg had to step in there. âThey stay here. :|â lol))
As for the question from @thunderbirdthree ...this is why Iâm answering on this account because I can actually answer this one a bit more definitively!
This bit of fanon comes largely via the 2004 movie, from what I understand. When up in Thunderbird 5, Jeff tells Virgil to look after John... and then you see Johnâs got his arm in a sling and such, so that seems to be where the idea of Virgil having some level of medical knowledge was sparked. Fics that take place in the movie verse is definitely where Iâve seen him have more than just first aid knowledge. XD
(Throw in heâs in the ship caring loads of supplies (TAG TB2â˛s cabinets in the cockpit are almost ALL medical supplies), how he likely has a gentle touch being a pianist/painter, has a lot of common sense and his caring mannerisms (which is even absolutely seen in TOS!)... Y E A H... He feels like the one that could fall into âmedicâ more naturally than any of the others, I think. XDa Which is why Iâd surmise itâs rubbed off at least to some extent onto TAG and TOS fanon.)
Iâm afraid not. =( Weâre in a kinda limbo. They havenât said thereâll be more eps... but they also havenât committed to the last chunk of S3 being the final episodes either. I guess weâll see though what they say after Christmas... aka after they see how the new toys have sold. đ
( @gentlebluelizardâ Iâm afraid the 4 seasons were the âAmazon seasonsâ aka 13 episodes each. So those articles were just really referring to 1 and 2. =( It makes it hard to google anything talking about an actual 4th season. ^^; )

A little belated, but TAGHQ dropped their plans for this yearâs Thunderbirds Day yesterday... which was a bit underwhelming, especially for TAG! fans...
In the UK thereâs a TAG! tie-in at the Gulliverâs theme parks.
Also in the UK, at the Fanderson Supercelebration (20th-22nd September) theyâre going to do a showing of TAGâs UK âlostâ episode, Inferno. Which is kinda... ah... hm. Can I just lineface? Iâll just lineface. The event is very expensive and requires also the purchase of a sample membership (which lasts to the end of the year.) Given the... animosity towards TAG by a lot of that part of the fandom... imho this feels kinda... squandered? =/a
Thereâs also going to be some special, weekend of Thunderbirds Day only, merchandise on the Gerry Anderson website. (What exactly has not been revealed yet.)
Sadly, there doesnât seem to be a Shout! Factory stream this year... instead itâs the Century 21 films whoâll be doing a stream on their Youtube channel of much of their Thunderbirds content for two weekends, including the 3 kickstarter 50th anniversary episodes and 3 new ones theyâve put together of the remaining three mini albums that retold several classic episodes by Scott, Penelope and Parker.

First, Bandai UK has announced the (semi) new toy line will drop September 1st.
They still have not updated their website though, lol.
Then it appears thereâs some movie news. Yeah, as in the 2004 one. Apparently, it appears thereâs going to be a UK release of it on blu-ray if this listing on Amazon is to be believed.
Weâll have to see if this actually comes to fruition. The company releasing it, âMediumRare Entertainmentâ doesnât seem to have a working website at the moment and... not much seems to be known about them from what Iâve been able to gather from some googling, though the 2004 movie would seem to fit into their repertoire. lol
