I better see EVERYBODY reblogging this
Please, reblog! IIt’s called self defense. Apart from having here, in the US, one of the highest cases of homicide and rape in the world and high rate of GBV, think about how this could help your mother or sister
It’s a shame I have to reblog, but please do the same
Of Kings and Queens: 5
Peter watches you and Poppy go then waits a few minutes then follows you out of the woods and back into the palace. He takes his time, a plan forming in his head because there’s no way he’s leaving Archenland without you. His first stop is Edmund, his younger brother has always been a night person so Peter knows he’ll find him awake and probably working. Then it’s off to bed.
The next morning he goes to Susan’s room, he finds her and Lucy eating a Narnian breakfast of fruit and bread.
“Good morning Peter.” Susan says as he sits down between his sisters and reaches for a banana.
“You look troubled, is everything alright?” Lucy asks.
“Actually, I need a favor Su.” Peter says, “I need you to invite the Queen for lunch. I need to know if she’s noticed my feelings for her sister and if she has I need you to downplay them. Make it sound like I do this often, courting younger sisters, make it sound as if it’s not unusual.”
“Why?”
“Because Arianna is dangerous and I need to protect Stella.” His sisters share a glance before Susan asks,
“Why me? Edmund is much better at this sort of thing.”
“I think she’ll be more honest with you, and I think that she sees Lu as a kid so she won’t take her seriously. It has to be you.” As he tells his sisters this Edmund comes strolling into the room.
“Good morning Ed.” Lucy chirps and Edmund grunts in response, mornings were not Edmund’s favorite time of day.
“Got news back for you.” He says to Peter before a deep drink of tea, “Everything is true. My source told me almost exactly what she’s told you. But more.”
“More?”
“The Queen is far more cruel than Stella has told you. Doesn’t always let her leave her room, doesn’t always feed her. Sometimes she just throws Stella into the dungeon because she’s in a foul mood. Had her beaten once for trying to help a dryad that was caught smuggling information to Lune.” Peter’s teeth clench, he knows exactly why Stella didn’t tell him any of this, but by Aslan he wishes she had.
“We need to get her out of here.” Peter says rubbing his face with a hand.
“Why do you care so much?” Susan asks and Peter sighs.
“She’s a Daughter of Eve.” Peter says softly, his siblings stare at him, “She’s from the states, Philadelphia.”
“What?” Susan breathes before looking over at Edmund who nods confirming his story.
“Phillip told me this morning.” He affirms and the confirmation seems to sooth their sister’s concern.
“I’ll invite the Queen for lunch.” Susan agrees with a sigh, “I don’t like her much though.”
“We’re going to be leaving soon. A few days maybe.” Edmund says popping a grape into his mouth.
“I gave Stella two days.”
“For what?” Lucy asks.
“To come with us to Narnia.” Peter says simply and his siblings all nod.
“This could be seen as an act of war.” Edmund warns and Peter sighs again.
“I know, and this is going to sound mental but she’s worth it.” His declaration is met with silence but when Peter risks a glance up at his siblings and is pleased when he sees understanding on their faces.
Susan changes the subject then, but Peter isn’t paying much attention. What is he going to do if you don’t agree to come to Narnia? He doesn’t want to have to kidnap you but if that’s what it takes to get you somewhere safe he will.
“Peter?” Lucy’s voice pulls him from his thoughts and Peter looks over at his youngest sister.
“Forgive me Lu, I wasn’t listening.”
“I was hoping you’d come for a ride with me. I’ve been feeling cooped up for the last couple days and would love to get out of the castle for a bit.” He knows it’s a distraction ploy but he can’t find it in himself to care. “We could go while Susan has her lunch? It would explain why it’s just the two of them.”
“What about Ed?” Peter asks and his brother chuckles lowly.
“You really weren’t listening were you?” He says plucking more fruit from the plate in the center of the table. “I’ve got some contacts I need to speak with and am going to be working on the final treaty with Mr. Tumnus. Which, is where I should be now.” He says before standing and taking a bite of the apple he’d grabbed. “See you later.” Edmund says before leaving the room.
Peter follows not long after, he’s distracted and isn’t the best company right now. So instead he answers Mr. Beaver’s letter as he and Mrs. Beaver were acting in his and his siblings places while they were in Archenland. After he sends that one off he goes to find Orious for some sword fighting practice. It’s been a while and hopefully this will keep his mind off of you and your sister.
Orious isn’t a gentle teacher, he’s cut Peter twice now for not paying attention. After the first one Mr. Tumnus had gone for Lucy who was now reading a book, her diamond bottle at her side in case Peter is cut yet again.
“You’re distracted your highness.” Orious says, his voice light but his brow furrowed.
“I am. I’m sorry my head isn’t in it right now.”
“Not to be brash sire but you do not have that luxury.” Orious says simply and Peter nods dropping back into his fighting stance. He successfully fights off Orious this time. “Much better sire.” Orious says.
“Thank you Orious. Lu? You ready to go for a ride?”
“If Orious doesn’t mind bringing my book back to my room.” Lucy says as she stands up and closes her book.
“It’s not a problem your highness.” Orious says taking the book from Lucy who grins at Peter and takes off running.
“Race you!” She yells and with a surprised laugh Peter is off after Lucy. He’s catches her quickly then keeps pace with her until they reach the stable where he just inches past her.
“I hate when you do that!” She mock pouts and Peter laughs softly throwing an arm over her shoulders. If there’s one person who can get him out of his own head it’s Lucy.

Reader’s P.O.V:
The sun’s rays cut through the thin trees, and as you strolled through the ferns overlapping the forest floors with Caspian ahead, a rustling sound behind you made your ears perk up.
You turned in time to see Trufflehunter just ducking behind a bush. You couldn’t help but grin and shake your head.
“I can hear you,” Caspian‘s exasperated voice calls out.
A moment passes before Nikabrik and Trufflehunter poked themselves out of from behind a pair of trees. You chuckled to yourself as you continued to walk, catching up to Caspian. Standing by his side, you noticed how tall he was, and how his hand was almost always on the hilt of his sword: his guard never resting for a moment.
“I just think we should wait for the kings and queens,” Trufflehunter called out. Caspian have him a long look before continuing to walk.
Even the mention of the kings and queens made your stomach dip in anticipation. The echoes of their voices heightened in your mind, their faces more vivid in colour, and Edmund’s smile; the brightest smile she had ever seen.
They aren’t dead, a voice from within you whispered excitedly, They aren’t dead.
“Fine, go then!” Trufflehunter basically shouted. “See if the others will be as understanding.”
Nikabrik’s amused faced drew your eyes to him. “Or maybe I’ll come with you. I want to see you explain things to the minotaurs.”
Caspian stopped in his tracks, and you paused too, watching his expression.
He looked dazed, and a glimpse of what looked like excitement shone in his eyes. “Minotaurs... they’re real?”
You laughed and Caspian turned to look at you with his dark eyes. A grin graced your face as you continued your march towards the end of the forest. “Of course they are.”
Trufflehunter grunted. “And very bad tempered.”
“Yeah, not to mention big,” the dwarf added.
“Huge.”
You rolled your eyes, a smile still dancing on your face as you turned around to look at the three who were catching up slowly.
Caspian didn’t waste a chance in asking more questions. “What about centaurs? Do they still exist?”
Trufflehunter began walking towards you. “Well, the centaurs will probably fight on your side. But there’s no telling what the others will do.”
“What about Aslan?”
You stop in your tracks, heart sinking slightly as you looked at the young prince.
Nikabrik and Trufflehunter also paused and peered at each other. They seemed just as unsettled as you.
You hadn’t heard Aslan’s name in so long. It was hard to know he wasn’t here now, or if he would come ever again.
Nikabrik turned to Caspian suspiciously. “How do you know so much about us?”
“Stories,” Caspian responded.
The badger added with surprise, “Wait a minute...your father told you stories about Narnia?”
Caspian frowned. “No, my professor...”
You saw his face changed as his voice trailed off, almost hardened by the truth hidden behind his eyes.
“Listen, I am sorry,” he continued. “These are not the kinds of questions you should be asking.”
Caspian begins to walk towards you again. You wish you could comfort the stranger but you were just as clueless as he, probably even more so. You were just desperate to find something you were familiar with again.
Behind you, something sniffed loudly, and you spun around to see Trufflehunter’s snout in the air.
Nikabrik picked up on his unease immediately. “What is it?”
“Human,” he answered confidently.
Nikabrik nodded towards Caspian. “Him?”
“No...” Trufflehunter stopped suddenly and stared to the clearing from which they entered. “Them!”
Your hand immediately unsheathes your sword at the sound of foreign and rough voices. Soldiers. Armour shining in the sunlight, they looked taut and merciless in the way the moved across the clearing. Even worse when they lifted crossbows into your direction.
“There they are!” A thick-accented voice called out.
You saw a man position his crossbow towards you. A heavy stone seemed to fall into your stomach as your heartbeat grew louder and louder in your ears.
Trufflehunter shouted something, and knowing you didn’t have to wonder about what he said, you dashed ahead of the rest
The whizz of the arrows flying past and sticking into nearby trees, sometimes bouncing off them, was almost as loud as her heart.
Run, run, run.
Anxiety was trampling in your chest, leaving you gasping for air. Your mind was racing with the thought of going back home. Anywhere with the sea, or high cliffs, anything that reminded you of the glory of Cair Paravel. Anything that reminded you of the Pevensies. And Edmund.
Edmund.
A cry fell from far behind, and you turned to see Nikabrik and Caspian pause in their haste to escape...Trufflehunter nowhere to be seen.
“Trufflehunter!” You cried out, panic rising in you as you ducked out of the way of a flying arrow.
Caspian stood still before running back towards the overlapping fern bushes. Nikabrik waddled quickly towards to where you were gesturing you to run.
“He’s fine! Go!”
The shake in his voice made you hesitate, still looking towards the Prince kneeled on the floor who was quickly tucking something in his pocket. You watch as the soldiers take aim.
Then one screamed and fell. Then another, and another...
Caspian had thrown the badger over his shoulder and you caught a glimpse of an arrow poking out from his back leg. Your heart sank as the long-haired prince caught up, placing a twitching Trufflehunter gently in your hands.
Caspian nodded to both you and Nikabrik. “Get him out of here.”
You stood bewildered, clutching Trufflehunter as fur and blood tangled between your fingers. “You can’t fight them! Caspian!”
But it was no use. Caspian drew his sword, moving towards the dead men in a smooth motion. You saw another soldier fall heavily, and another grunting in madness, taking out a sword to cut through the grass.
“Where are you?!” The armoured man howled, and no sooner had he fallen down; lying unmoving like the rest of his men.
The ferns were bristling violently, creeping around the guards before switching directions, and moved towards Caspian.
You cried out a warning, yet the small thing that leaped out of the forest floor and knocked Caspian to the earth.
Biting your lip in apprehension, you found yourself cursing and placing Trufflehunter gently onto the thick leaves of a nearby bush.
“What are you-“ Nikabrik protested, moving violently towards you, but you cut him off quickly.
“He needs help!”
The way you had darted across the bushes to reach Caspian reminded you briefly of the distant times where you and Lucy would try to catch each other in the woods surrounding Cair Paravel’s grounds.
In those memories, the forests were less daunting, and the sun wasn’t so harsh. The wind would catch at the trees’ delicate leaves and pull them to fall onto your hair. Now, there was none of that.
You slowed as you got closer to Caspian, sword at the ready like Edmund had taught you almost a lifetime ago. But this wasn’t an ordinary target, you noticed quickly.
It was a mouse; quite a large mouse with a tail that was swishing around the air proudly. The creature was perched on Caspian’s chest, pointing what you thought was meant to be a sword, but only looked like one of Sudan’s large sewing needles. Its voice say comfortably ok its throat as the mouse began demanding Caspian.
“Pick it up!” The mouse shouted in an alarming manner. “I will not fight an unarmed man.”
Caspian seemed to struggle with his answer. “Which is why I will live longer if I choose not to cross blades with you, noble mouse.”
You tilted your head curiously as the mouse swished his blade. “I said I wouldn’t fight you. I didn’t say I’d let you live!”
“Wait!” You said, stepping closer to the scene as you sheathed your sword. “There’s no need for that, he isn’t a soldier!”
The mouse peered at you with beady eyes. “He’s a Telmarine! You’ll catch me snipping off my own tail before I passed a chance to kill-“
“Reepicheep, stay your blade!”
The mouse turned as you did, seeing the badger leaning on the dwarf tiredly. “Trufflehunter? I trust you have a good reason for this untimely interruption!”
Nikabrik looked almost amused. “He doesn’t. Go ahead.”
The badger took a moment to capture his breath. “Reepicheep, he’s the one that blew the horn!”
The words sent a great shiver down your spine, the mention of the horn again breathed far more hope into you that the Kings and Queens were still out there, somewhere. You would see them again, and everything will be alright.
Reepicheep stared down Caspian in surprise. “What?”
A deep voice emerged from a corner of the forest. “Then let him bring it forward.”
Four large centaurs came walking gracefully over the hill, the greatness in size always stole your breath.
“This is the reason we have gathered,” the voice continued, coming from a dark haired centaur.
You gave them a hopeful look before peering down at Caspian again. He looked at you, amazement flooded in his expression.
A small smile played on your lips, your mind wandering to the hope of tomorrow. The hope of seeing the Pevensies again.

i can’t stop thinking about what happened right after the pevensies were crowned, knowing literally nothing about narnia or how to be kings and queens, so here are a bunch of headcanons
THE FIRST YEAR
After Aslan departs, the merriment at Cair Paravel goes on for three days. There is dancing and feasting, and the new kings and queens sleep wherever they fall, then awake and join in again. When they rise at noon on the third day, the castle is emptier and quieter than before, and there is work to be done.
The first thing they realise is that there is no furniture in Cair Paravel. There’s the odd stone bench, and all the glorious carvings and statues, and the thrones of course, but not a single scrap of wood. Every last splinter was stripped out during the Great Winter and burnt for fuel. They sleep in the simple beds from Aslan’s camp and eat sitting on the floor with their subjects, and it feels rather like camping in their own castle, like another adventure.
These early days are not like the coronation with all its pomp and splendour. Susan folds all their wine-stained finery into a pile and they do not wear clothes so rich as that again for a long time. Instead they wear practical leather and linen and their lessons are not in statecraft, but in combat, butchery, agriculture. Food is the thought in everyone’s minds after the Winter scarcity, with the land now so green and giving. And Peter’s shoulders grow broad and strong at the plough, and Susan finds the oldest of the wood-people and coaxes them out to the fields to teach those born in the Winter how to sow, and Edmund proves himself something of a genius with mechanical solutions, and Lucy delights in learning all the types of seeds and nurturing them under the sun. And before long they all four are lean and tanned and calloused at the palm with field work.
Summer brings news that a knot of remaining Fell Beasts has grown in the West, gathering their strength through the spring. Peter and Edmund, both pale and determined, don their armour again and ride out with a band of soldiers. In the weeks they are gone the first foreign delegation arrives: a group of Archenlandish nobles who approach the castle to present themselves before the thrones of Aslan’s chosen sovereigns, only to be led out into the fields away from the castle to a girl of eight with two simple braids, wearing leggings and boots, carrying out water. She drops her buckets with a gappy grin and sticks out her dirty hand as she is proudly announced as ‘Queen Lucy the Valiant’, and it is the start of a long and prosperous friendship.
The boys return from their bloody sweep through the west as the leaves start to fall, both taller and harder-faced. The harvest brings a bustle of trade, but after that the land goes hushed and fearful. With the cold comes the first of the mutterings that the summer may only have been a brief respite brought by Aslan; without him, what certainty is there that winter will lift again? And the cold starts to sink its teeth in.
It has been so long since the Narnians have seen a natural winter that they have forgotten that even without enchantment it is hard and cold. Edmund grows quiet and sleepless when the snow comes, and between this and Lucy’s night-time chills, Peter and Susan move all four of them into Peter’s room, which is small and easily warmed by its cavernous fireplace. It’s better to burn one fire than four and they abandon their individual wooden beds for a large heap of furs and blankets, taking heat from each other as the Animals do.
Edmund and Lucy hardly leave the castle all that winter. Lucy is too small to be trudging through the deep snows and Peter and Susan are keen to keep Edmund out of the cold, so when their people need aid, Peter straps his sword to his back and Susan straps her quiver to hers, and they venture out together into the merciless winter, leaving Edmund in charge of the castle and of Lucy for days and occasionally weeks at a time. It’s a clear and complete signal of trust which quiets some unfriendly whispers, and such important duties help keep him from darker thoughts of the previous winter.
No one is keen to waste precious food in feasting at Christmas in case the Winter truly has returned, but Father Christmas comes by the castle with plenty, so the gates of Cair Paravel are opened and there is a little cheer. And then all Narnia waits with bated breath to see if the snow will melt.
But eventually dawn starts to come a little earlier and the earth starts to thaw, and when the coming of the spring cannot be denied, the Narnians whisk their young sovereigns out into the meadows and crown them all over again with fresh flowers, and the second spring feels almost as much a victory as the first.

Chapter note: This was a fun one to write!
A nobleman from some island comes to visit in the following days, and I don’t see Peter for a week and a half. Not that I’m counting.
Not that I’m necessarily saddened by it either. My brain is still shaken to the bone by a number of things, and the time to think is much needed.
With the castle’s visitors to talk about, the talk around me dies down, and I’m able to return to the maid’s quarters, despite Mrs. Dolie’s insistence that I hadn’t overstayed my welcome.
The maids that I’m not particularly close to give me side glances laced with poison, and the ones I did have an acquaintance with give me a half forced smile at any eye contact. Even if they didn’t mind my current… affiliation… with the High King, they likely don’t want the affliction sure to come their way with any association with me.
It’s my own fault, really. I’ve been a quiet, aloof lass long before they had a reason to have distaste for me.
Just as well: I have a book to read. I sit in the hallway outside the quarters, under a torch so I can see. Then I devour the pages until my eyelids begin to droop before reluctantly forcing myself to my bunk.
Midweek, I get to take another trip into town, this time accompanied by Adonis. I smile at the thought of Peter taking my comfort level with the centaur into account when assigning the guard.
The buoyant conversation to and from the market is nearly as enjoyable as the experience itself. Although, having a royal guard at your side did draw its attentions. But the drawbacks aren’t nearly as bad as the niceness of having to not carry all the produce alone.
It’s a pleasant rhythm: wake up, clean, perhaps talk to Mrs. Dolie or Adonis, read, sleep. Even my dreams fall into a lovely, blank pattern.
Until they don’t. I blame the book for it really, knights and their damn passionate love and carnal tales.
It’s innocent enough to start. I’m back on the turret, Peter with me, but instead of just brushing my cheek with his hand, his mouth catches mine.
I bolt upright in my bed, and I can’t even muster an apology in reply to the annoyed whine from the bunk beside mine. I row my mind back and forth through the dream, and can only settle myself back down when I know it lacked that abnormal quality that meant I shared it.
My cleaning in the morning is vigorous and over-focused, but, thankfully, no one says anything, not even Mrs. Dolie, despite her aware gaze.
That night, I forego the book, hoping it helps.
Instead, I have the same dream, except this time, my hands are in his hair, and his hands are on my back, tracing and burning. The sensation of his tongue meeting my lip finally shoots me toward consciousness.
I’m unable to fall back asleep, even after assuring myself this one too was my dream alone.
I tripped three times the next day, and got caught staring off into space five times.
I do read my book the following night, with no intention of going to sleep. But I must at some point fade off, because the dream visits even in face of my efforts.
I’m not in the tower this time, but I’m in what I recognize as the High King’s chambers. I don’t clean it, but I have been in to fill a vase once or take the curtains to wash, I’m not sure which, but it’s enough to identify where I am. I’m wearing my sleep shift, white and borderline transparent, and I haven’t even time to fluster at my own indecency before looking up to find Peter only in loose sleep breeches.
I look everywhere but his exposed chest, finally descending my line of sight to the design of the duvet behind him. I can feel his eyes on me, and despite the simmer it holds, it doesn’t feel profane. My curiosity gets the better of me, and I search his face for meaning, but I can’t label any of the micro-expressions dancing across his features.
Handsome features, my useless mind offers.
Then, before my mind can offer anything else, I’m stepping towards him, wrapping my arms around his neck, and kissing him without restraint. He hums something incomprehensible against my mouth and then he’s lifting me by the back of my legs, which I wrap around his waist the first moment I can. I’m dazed and giddy and something much much worse, but whatever the later is, it has momentum, and I’m not even trying to stop it as I move my hips down against his waist.
I feel before I see his eyes snap open, and I blink as that awful sensation of becoming aware during a dream rushes over me.
What in the…
The sinking in my stomach advances as I hear him ask, tentatively, “____ are you actually here?”
I just stare as he lowers me down, places a finger under my chin, tilting my eyes up as he searches them for something.
And it hits me.
Aslan help me…I am sharing this dream.
********
I’ve never been so thankful for kitchen duty. Mrs. Dolie’s conversation is just about the sole thing that can get my mind off a night like that.
If she can tell I’m distracted, she keeps it to herself.
I’m chopping celery while she adds a plethora of spices to a large pot without measuring them, not even looking at her own hands as she tells me how one of the other maids burnt a pie yesterday.
She’s smiling, even though she is obviously still quite grieved over her charred pie. I feel the beginnings of my own smile when the screech of iron startles the knife down, and I slice one of my knuckles.
The clammerings beside me tell Mrs. Dolie isn’t much better off. I’m sucking my knuckle between my lips before the second it takes me to turn around.
Mrs. Dolie and I exchange confused glances as we recognize at the same moment the sound came from the panty.
I’m reaching back behind me with my unhurt hand for the knife when the pantry door is pushed open and a cloud of white is unleashed.
I don’t even have to wait for the white dust to settle before I recognize the stature of the man before us.
“Peter?” I ask toward the cloud, knife still in hand.
There’s coughing, and when I can finally see him, he’s dusting a hand through his hair, knocking another smaller cloud into being. His clothes are coated in white powder too.
“I think,” he covers his mouth for another cough, “that perhaps the passage entrance to the pantry hasn’t been in use for some time.”
Mrs. Dolie has dropped into a curtsey, and I debate on if I’m to curtsey as well, and I keep going back and forth on it, so I just end up in an awkward ankle cross with my finger back in my mouth.
Oh, gods, I am not ready to see him, not after last night. And he’s here, and so very real and it’s far too much.
“Your Majesty,” Mrs. Dolie half rises from her curtsey, “It hasn’t been used in years indeed, to which point I’m afraid we’ve placed shelving around it. It’s where we keep the flour nowadays.”
She’s honoring, but her tone of voice is the same as ever, even in the presence of one of our sovereigns, and I can’t help but respect her more for it.
Peter’s chuckle forces my attention back to him, “Yes, I’ve certainly found the flour.”
He looks at me for a second past a comfortable glance, then back to Mrs. Dolie, “I apologize for the mess, if you’ll point me in the direction of your broom…”
She makes a noise somewhere between disbelief and disgust. “If it pleases your majesty, the maids are quite capable…”
“It’s my mess really,” he interrupts, moving towards us.
I finally set my knife down. He notices the movement, and the side of his lip quirks up, then it’s gone.
“Really, your majesty, while your offer is appreciated, I actually have the perfect maid for the job. I have a charred pie that demands revenge.”
He looks baffled, and turns to me for reasoning. I just shake my head, smiling.
“To what do we owe the pleasure of your company this afternoon?” I ask, wiping my hands on my apron.
“I was…” he starts, then concern twists his face as his eyes follow my hands. I look down to see my apron splotched with red. “Are you bleeding, ____?”
“Heavens! Yes she is!” Mrs. Dolie exclaims, grabbing a dish towel from the nearest table, wrapping my entire hand.
I laugh and hiss at the pain in the same moment, creating a strange, twisted noise. “It’s just the finger, you know, not my whole hand.”
“I’m relieved your tongue is unaffected,” she bites back, looking up at me only briefly before starting to look for something.
“Just about everything is unaffected,” I snort. “It’s just a …”
I’m silenced by the hand on my elbow. I tense at first, but then relax at the cautious eyes of the hand’s owner.
“Is this okay?” he asks quietly. I nod, even as my useless mind silently adds, “more than.”
“Can I see it?” I must be still gathering my wits from my stupid, stupid mental running column because he adds, “your hand?”
I raise it, and he takes it, unwrapping the clumsily tied dish cloth, sending another bit of flour into a cloud as his sleeve contacts my wrist.
He addresses Mrs. Dolie over my shoulder after a glance at it, “You were correct in the need for it being covered, but not before it’s washed. May I use your wash bowl?”
“Of course, your majesty.” She indicates over to the corner. She’s addressing him, but she’s looking at me. To my face, then to where Peter carefully grasps my hand and leads me over to the wash bowl, then back at my face pointedly, looking herself as smug as anyone ever has.
I roll my eyes.
“You know, I really am fi..”
I swallow a yelp as Peter pours a pitcher of water over my knuckle.
“I know you are, but it still needs cleaning, and it honestly might need a stitch or two.”
“You have a habit of being overprotective, sire.”
He smiles as he runs his hand over mine, squeezing slightly. I sharply inhale at the pain, then almost make a similar sound at his hand’s comforting stroke. His shoulder bumps mine.
“And you have a habit of being hurt, milady.” I turn my face to him, and he’s close, so close at my side. I can feel his exhale on my neck, and he’s positively magnetic, and I’m so pathetically caught in his pull…
Mrs. Dolie clears her throat, “I’d clear out, but, alas, the soup is still on the fire.”
Peter laughs, although somewhat tight, still authentic, as he turns to address her. “My apologies, I need to get her to the healer anyway.”
“The healer! Honestly, Peter!” I exclaim in exasperation.
He pivots back to me. “Yes, the healer. Stitches and soup aren’t best made in the same room.”
“I have to agree with his majesty on this one, deary,” Mrs. Dolie pipes up.
“But…” I start to protest, but Mrs. Dolie starts literally pushing me toward the door to the passageway in the pantry.
Peter gives his thanks and farewell, and then we’re off into the tunnel. It’s dark, except for some torches up the way.
The tunnels aren’t foreign to us maids. They’re not only for protection in case of an attack, they also make for fantastic shortcuts and dubious visibility at the height of hosting guests.
Since this entrance has remained unused, there’s no torchlight given nearby. Even still, it’s not pitch black at least, and the ground is flat in these parts.
So my grip on his forearm is superfluous. Ridiculous.
I don’t let go.
His voice pierces the dark as we walk. “I tried my hand at subtlety, using the passage and whatnot. Flour it seems, had plotted to thwart me.”
“Ah, yes. If only it weren’t for the nefarious flour, then subtlety would be yours to obtain,” I say, trying to chase the playfulness of my voice with fabricated solemnity, failing mostly. “Although I might suggest that if subtlety is truly close to being possessed, then the use of passage tunnels needn’t be necessary.”
He endeavors to clear his throat of a laugh, which escapes anyway in the end. “Redhanded, milady.”
“I appreciate the attempt nonetheless. Which brings me to… why were you trying to find me?”
We’ve gotten to where the torches are lit, and I can see his face much better now. I really could let go of his arm. Really should.
“Well, I know I’ve been occupied all week, and I mentioned perhaps trying sparring last…” he trails off, and I glance up at him, only catching glimpses of his demeanor as we kept passing torches. He seems to be considering something. Then decided upon it.
“We’ve been nothing except forthright toward each other, and I have no intent of stopping now. Or ever. I honestly just wanted to see you. How you were doing. And perhaps a question, which I can leave ‘till later.”
I’m momentarily lost over what to say, my heartbeat drowning out any coherent thought from forming. First, that he wants to see me, and second, what that question will likely be about. Hopefully not. I keep hoping I’m wrong about that dream not being mine alone.
Forthright. I can do that, at least. “I’m glad you did.” I hope he can see the sincerity in my eyes in spite of the dim light. “And I’m actually a little relieved you haven’t brought up the whole sparring thing. I…” I lick my bottom lip and the rest of my thought down as I consider for a moment, what level of vulnerability I want to reveal.
I catch another frame of his face, but it’s just enough. There’s a genuineness his presence radiates, and it inspires the same from me.
“I’m not ready yet, I think. Touching people and people touching me,” I inhale, conjuring courage to finish. “It’s formidable at best in most cases. But I’m learning. I just need smaller steps than that, I think.”
“I should say that’s more than understandable. Plus, I only mentioned it in hopes to increase your comfort, not fret you more than you already have been.”
“Thank you,” I say, quietly.
He nods, and we walk in silence for a few moments. We reach a door, and he opens it, indicating for me to go ahead.
I’ve barely a second to take in the room, stocked floor to ceiling on more than one wall with numerous jars full of colorful substances. There’s a table in the middle, and many places of storage everywhere. A fireplace in the corner, a daybed near the window.
He speaks again. “Please, if I ever do anything that makes you nervous, don’t hesitate to say.”
“Thank you,” I say again. I look away, over at some sort of plant hanging from the ceiling. As if my nerves will ever be in order around him. “You’ve been beyond respectful, and I’m grateful.”
His mouth purses. “I don’t feel I need gratitude for what equates to plain decency.”
“My gratitude still stands, even so.”
“Just please promise me, ___, that you’ll tell me?” He’s adamant in a way that I know needs assurance.
“I will. Touch with you is… different.” The moment I realize what just came out of my mouth, I look down at my feet again, opening my mouth to find something, anything, to say that will mitigate what I just stupidly said aloud.
When I gather the grit to look him in the eye again, he looks struck. Not as much in that he’s hurt as much surprised at the impact.
His throat bobs. “I….I want to say I’m honored, but it’s not even close to the right word.”
I can’t think of anything else to say, meer words feeling empty in comparison to the momentousness of what I’d actually just admitted.
I trust you.
And he heard it.
A bird’s chirp from outside the window calls me back to why I’m actually here.
“So, when is the healer joining us?”
His appearance turns sheepish. “Well, she should be making her rounds in one of the villages today. I’m set to meet with her tomorrow, as usual, but I’m confident I’ve done stitches enough to do it without her instruction.”
He turns and starts opening a cabinet, gathering supplies, then plucks some type of dried plant off the string from which it hangs.
I try to put the situation together in my mind. “She teaches you?”
He half turns back to me, hands still busy with some type of thread. “Yes, because I asked her to. Medicine has always held an interest for me.”
Huh. I hadn’t foreseen that coming.
He seems to have gathered everything he needs, because he approaches me again. “I would wait for her, if I knew she would be back before dark, and this truly requires attention now,” he waves in the direction of my hand.
“It’s alright. Between you and me, I prefer it to be you anyway.” I smile, hoping it reassures him. I don’t doubt his capacity the way he seems to think I might. I wouldn’t have done anything to the cut, so anything is an improvement on nothing.
He smiles back briefly before crushing the dried plant with a shaped stone. He combines it with some type of liquid until it forms a paste.
When he holds out his hand, obviously meaning for me to give him mine, I do without thought. But when the fingers on his other hand caress around my wrist before applying the paste, it brings to my attention just how intimate the setup is. And how much more he’s going to need to touch me before this is over.
My thoughts flicker back to the moment at the sink, just mere minutes ago. How he leaned in, how I did too…
And I’m a selfish girl in some respects, not content just to be touched, apparently, because even as the one hand is wounded, the other itches to reach up and touch his hair, remembering the soft texture of it from the staff courtyard.
He’s almost done smearing the paste when my hand twitches.
“Did it sting? This salve shouldn’t.”
“No, it’s… not that.”
“What is it, then?” He hasn’t been entirely looking at me, half submerged in his task, but now he does, broad shoulders squared to me, both hands holding my injured one.
I blush, and an expression that’s half boyish cockiness and half curiosity is sent my way in return.
I sigh, impatient with myself. “Just… “ I just go for it, reaching my other hand up, fingers close to the shorter hair above his ear. “May I?” I ask, making sure this frivolous indulgence of mine is fine by him.
He nods. “Whatever you want.”
I comb my hand through his hair, and he hums, deep in his throat as he leans into my hand. “I’m at your mercy, milady. Do as you please.”
It’s a heady, heady thing. The power he gives me.
What an interesting commodity he makes of power. What I’ve known of power is the abuse thereof. It becomes a completely different substance when it lays itself down willingly.
His eyes close when I reach the nape of his neck, dragging my fingernails. A thought plants in my mind, and my brazzenness hasn’t wavered, so I press my lips to his jaw, even as my hand shakes at his neck. I feel the muscle under my lip clench before he pulls back a little.
I’m worried I’ve misread things before he explains with a scratchy voice, “If I’m going to have enough concentration to stitch your hand, I can’t have you continuing that now.”
He pets at my cheek, swiping his thumb across my bottom lip. “And maybe then you’ll grant me permission to reciprocate?”
I can’t tell if the swoop in my stomach is fear or anticipation. Or both. “Please,” I answer still, meaning it with every bone in my body.
“Then let me finish my task, milady.” His smile is teasing, even as his hands busy themselves again after we’re both seated at the table.
The paste he made must have some type of numbing quality, as the poking of the needle isn’t nearly as bad as I brace myself for it to be. Still, the stitch in the middle of the cut bites, and I gasp a little. He looks up to me briefly, muttering an apology, stroking my hand again in a soothing motion. “Nearly finished.”
He’s completely in a zone, and I distract myself with watching his fingers as they work.
Finally, he bandages the area. He seems a little lost in thought, still.
When he addresses me, he looks a little… guilty?
“____, I need to ask you something before anything else.”
“Yes?”
“I…” he looks down, dropping his head and running a hand over his face. “Did we share a dream last night?” When he looks back up at me, his cheeks are a little red.
Oh. I had almost forgotten about that. I’m sure my cheeks matched his too, now. How would he feel, knowing I dreamed of him that way?
I answer slowly. “I believe so.”
“I believe I owe you an apology, then. Forgive me, I…”
“Pardon?” I cut him short.
“I’m trying to say I’m sorry, it was inappropriate, and you shouldn’t be subjected to my mind running and setting you in situations like that. Especially in light of everything you’ve been though, and I can’t in good conscience…”
“But it was my dream? You shouldn’t be sorry.”
It takes him a second to realize my words. “Really?”
“At least I thought it was. It makes sense, all the other dreams this week were similar.” I realize what I just admitted, and I laugh even as my whole face burns.
He just stares for a second, looking like he’s still trying to comprehend what I just said.
“Perhaps it’s me who should be apologizing to you for my mind’s lack of chastity, then, sire.” I continue.
Some disbelieving sound leaves him before he protests. “But I’ve had similar dreams all week as well.”
I should, perhaps, be scandalized. I should, maybe, be offended, even. I am, in fact, completely flattered instead.
“Huh,” is all I can say, stupidly.
We meet each other’s eyes at the same moment, then laugh a little at ourselves and the situation as a whole.
Peter speaks again. “I just hope that anything you did today wasn’t a reflection of what you think I wanted because of that dream.”
Aslan, how was this man even real?
“Everything I did today was because I wanted to.” My voice isn’t loud, but what I say seems to ring in the small space between us, creating a potential that demanded some type of action.
“Do I still have your permission then?” His leg bounces a little, like he’s channeling energy there in order to stay still.
I nod, and it’s all it takes. He scoots off his chair and offers a hand to pull me up.
The next moment, the warmth of his lips are against my temple. I lace our fingers where our hands are still clasped, my breaths coming uneven.
How is this even real?
I can feel him lick his lips before kissing down the side of my neck. When his tongue darts out a little, my hand clutches onto his arm haphazardly, ending in an awkward grab of his elbow.
His hand finds my waist, and he pulls back enough to see my gauge my reaction. “Is this still okay?”
His hair is still messy from when I touched it, and it makes me want to grab it again.
“Like I said, touch with you is different, Peter.” I close the gap between us, pressing our lips together. The reaction is gentle to begin: The hand on my waist clutches a little tighter, and I indulge the itch to play with his hair again.
Then he deepens the kiss, tilting his head a little and breaking our clasped hands to cup my face. He darts his tongue out once, and I feel the impact all the way down my spine. I hear myself make some noise I’ll care to be embarrassed about later, but when a similar noise echoes from his throat, I know I’m not alone.
Kissing Peter feels like the last moment of a fall and the following moment of catching yourself. There’s the exhilaration and fear of the uncontrollable sensation of tumbling toward something, and then there’s the swoop in your stomach as it all catches up, landing after it all on something solid and unshakable.
I pull back, breathless and unsure where to go next. He follows, slowing his breath as well, hands not leaving their place.
Then, without even thinking, he rests his forehead on mine.
And it happens.

How He Kisses You
Edmund Pevensie
alright listen up
edmund is the king of kissing, okay? the king
he’s one of those people who’ve never kissed before and yet knows exactly what to do
like first time he kisses you it’s so good you’re literally left speechless
he quickly realizes how much a fan he is of kissing
pretty much he’s kissing you all the time
i don’t know where this whole theory of ed not liking pda came from because he loves you and wants everyone to know you’re his
also he’s really touch-starved
so he’s constantly snaking an arm around your waist or holding your hand
he mainly holds your hand when he’s afraid or vulnerable
but he usually has an arm draped over your shoulders at all times
his kisses vary based on the moment
just walking through the forest together? a super soft and gentle kiss
when he hasn’t seen you in hours? a firm kiss with his arms around your waist
whenever he’s angry or upset? a really quick kiss with zero passion
when the two of you have to separate during a battle? a long, passionate kiss where he holds you tight
those are usually the best ones
if he’s uncomfortable with anything then it’s wandering kisses
like he’s always super nervous about kissing your neck
but he bloodly loves it when you kiss his neck, though
he kisses your cheek the most
and the best kisses by far are the ones he gently places on your knuckles
the first time he did so was at a ball when he asked to dance with you
he held out his hand and as soon as you put yours in his, he gently kissed your knuckles all the while looking at you
okay but when he looks at you like that– from under his lashes or whenever he has to look up– you melt
his eyes are so powerful
there’s little you have to do to turn him on
if you’re alone in a room he’s super handsy
once he pushed you up against a bookshelf to kiss you and now you can’t ever think about books when you walk into that room
he doesn’t like to call you nicknames because using your name is most intimate for him
but one time you called him king edmund and he kissed you so passionately you almost saw stars
alright but honestly the best kisses are his forehead kisses
he’s always so gentle about it that you never doubt how much he loves you
especially when he kisses your temple
edmund loves you more than he loves his torch and he makes sure everyone knows
The more than his torch part really got me i
Marry My Husband (Draco x Reader)
Summary: Y/N and Draco haven’t spoken in over ten years when you receive a letter from a dying Astoria Malfoy, asking you to marry her husband. Together you and Draco put the pieces of his life back together. Set around the time of the 19 years later epilogue.
Pairing: Draco x Female Reader
Word count: 3.1k+
Warnings: V long, V angsty, mentions of sex (not too descriptive)
———————————————————————
‘Dear Y/N,
I hope this letter finds you well. Truthfully, I hope it finds you at all. You’re rather difficult to pin down, never in one place too long. Anyway, you don’t know me, but I know you. Know of you rather. Well that sounds a bit intimidating, you’ll have to excuse me. I’m ill.
My name is Astoria Malfoy, Draco and I have been married twelve wonderful years and share one son; Scorpius, aged ten. Since I was a girl myself, I knew I wouldn’t live to be old and gray. Instead I set out to pack as much life into my short time here as possible. Fate has been kind to me in that way, providing me a loving husband and a healthy child. My affliction is passed from mother to daughter, so their is no chance that my Scorpius might inherit it.
By now you are probably wondering what would possess me to write such a letter to a near stranger. The truth is, I’m dying y/n; and as such, I must get my affairs in order. Namely Draco.
My husband is under the delusion that he will live out the rest of his days alone, with the exception of our son. That he will never so much as look at another woman. Never pursue love or companionship again, and Draco is stubborn enough, I was afraid he might succeed.
That was until three weeks ago, when I found your picture tucked into one of my husband’s old trunks. Packed away with other hopes and dreams that he’s forbid himself to want.
I had my sister, Daphne, ask around. It would seem that you are the only person who knows him almost as well as I do. You were there for him at his darkest times during the war. Without you, I don’t think he’d have survived it.
In a strange way, you gifted Draco to me. Now I would like to return the favor. I love him with all I am, but I am on borrowed time. I ask you humbly, to marry my husband; because you are the only person in the world who loves him the way I do.
Best Regards, Astoria.’
———————————————————————
Draco is floored, to say the least; finding y/n at his doorstep, the day of Astoria’s funeral. He hasn’t seen you since the war ended, since you ended things with him.
“What are you doing here y/n?” His blue-grey eyes emotionless, and his tone clipped.
“Your wife,” you pause to look down at the folded up piece of parchment in your coat pocket. “Astoria asked me to come.”
“Of course she did.” Draco shakes his head. “I hardly expected you to show.”
“It was a compelling letter, any chance of meeting the author?” You ask, unsure of what else to say.
“You’re late,” Draco informs you, “my wife passed nearly a week ago. Too bad she didn’t leave that in one of her letters.”
You stay for the funeral, what else are you to do but honor the deceased women’s wishes? From the pictures, you can see Draco’s wife was beautiful. There’s a boy, you assume to be Scorpius, tucked into his father’s side. Sobbing quietly against Draco’s suit jacket, he looks just like him.
———————————————————————
“How’s your son?” You ask, when Draco sits down across from you, at the coffee shop you’d agreed to meet at.
“As well as can be expected.” He replies, sipping from his steaming mug.
“I got him these.” You slide the brown paper box onto the table.
“Puking Pastilles?” Draco turns his nose up at them.
“They’ll come in handy when he has to be around people, but doesn’t want to talk.” You explain the bizarre gift choice.
“Do you have children?” Draco wonders. When the two of you had discussed it, a life time ago; you were still on the fence. Draco however wanted a large family, but again, that was a long time ago.
“No.” You answer with a shrug. “I tried for a while, but no.”
“I’m sorry,” his gaze suddenly intensifies.
“Don’t be, just wasn’t in the cards for me.” Your eyes move to the half eaten danish on your plate.
“I wanted more.” Draco tells you. “Astoria was always frail, pregnancy was hard on her.”
“Then why risk it?” You ask.
Draco sighs, looking out the window, at the over cast sky. “She wanted to give me a family. I loved her for it. But it accelerated her blood curse.”
You nod, “that makes sense... So where’s everyone else on the meal rotation?”
“Pardon?” Draco furrows his brow.
“Well, when someone loses a loved one their family and friends will normally take turns bringing over food. To help lessen the load.” You explain, there had been a lot of that going around after the war.
“There is no rotation.” Draco clears his throat. “You’re the only one bringing us anything.”
“Not even your parents?” You say in disbelief.
“I don’t speak to my parents.” Draco shakes his head.
“Your friends?” Surely he must have friends.
“As Astoria got worse, she needed constant care, there was hardly time for anything else.”
“What about her family?”
“We don’t get on.” He elaborates, becoming more uncomfortable as the minutes tick by.
“I’m sorry, Draco. I really am.” You wish you could comfort him. “I still don’t understand what made her reach out to me of all people.”
“My late wife was a hopeless romantic. And in her eyes...you are the one that got away.” Draco explains, looking at the wedding band on his left ring finger.
“We were kids.” You laugh, feeling a pang of sadness in your chest.
“I understand it’s inappropriate to send someone who hardly knows you a letter, asking them to move part way round the world, and ‘marry your husband.’ Only my wife was dying, I couldn’t tell her no.” He pauses, to collect himself. “You don’t owe me anything y/n, you don’t owe her anything.” He makes to leave. Pushing his chair away from the table.
“Draco wait-“
“Sorry to have bothered you.” Draco blinks, trying to appear unbothered.
“Stop doing that.” You protest, rising from your own chair.
“What?” He snaps.
“Telling me how I feel, instead of asking.” Then again, he always was that way. “If you’d let me get a word in edgewise, I could tell you that you’re not bothering me. I want to be here for you, I want to be your friend.”
He swallows harshly. “Astoria was my best, and only, friend for a long time. Truthfully I don’t remember how to be around anyone else.”
“It’ll take some getting used to,” you understand. “Why don’t we try again next week? We’ll ease into it.”
“Alright,” he agrees.
———————————————————————
“You seem tense.” You say at the next meet up.
“Odd.” Draco bites out, he’s in good spirits today.
“Very,” you want to roll your eyes at his one word answer. “what’s bothering you?”
“The papers are saying that I’ve moved on to a mistress.” He explains, tossing the latest edition of the daily prophet down in front of you.
“What?” You grab the paper, not believing your own eyes. It’s a shot of the two of you in the coffee shop. “Me? I’m the mistress?”
“I’m afraid so.” Draco mutters, “Rita Skeeter’s been running a smear campaign against me for years. Sorry you’ve got caught up in it.”
“It’s no problem but...just so we’re clear.” You take a deep breath in. “I understand that you’ve already had a wife, Scorpius already had a mother who loved him more than the world. I’m not trying to be either of those things. I only want to be here for you-“
“And to be my friend.” He cocks a brow, “so you keep saying.”
“I promised to come if you needed me.” You remind him of the pact you made over a decade before.
“I wasn’t aware pinky swears between adolescences carry the same weight as an unbreakable vow.” Draco replies, tone dripping with sarcasm.
“Of course they do.” You reply the same way.
———————————————————————
In the beginning, you would drop their dinner at the door step, ringing the bell once, and then leaving them to it. Only seeing Draco for your agreed upon weekly visit. A few months later, you’ve gone from coffee once a week, to being invited inside for dinner each night.
Today however, you’ll be skipping the coffee shop. Today Scorpius is catching the Hogwarts express out of king’s cross station, for the very first time.
“Wand?” You ask Scorpius, nearly at the bottom of her checklist.
“Check.” The boy smiles, he adores you.
“Familiar?”
“Check.” Scorpius taps the caged owl, on his trolly.
“Puking Pastilles?”
“Check.”
“Robes?”
“Check, I think.” Scorpius scratches the back of his neck. “Dad, you remembered to put in my robes after the wash, didn’t you?”
“He’s prepared, y/n,” Draco rolls his eyes at you. “We’re not about to unpack his entire trunk.”
“I know,” you laugh. “I’m just double checking. What are friends for? Besides I have to prove myself useful if I want you to keep me around.”
“Oh, y/n you have to stay!” Draco’s son insists, “you will stay won’t you? I’ll write you everyday, I swear it. Please don’t go.” Scorpius throws his arms around you.
“Hey, I was kidding.” You assure him, holding him tightly, as you stroke his hair; the same color as his father. “I won’t leave, I promise.”
After the train is out of sight, Draco turns to you. His features set into a scowl. “In the future, please refrain from threatening to leave a boy who just lost his mother. Leave me, if you want. Hurt me, if you want, but don’t hurt my son.”
No, no, no. This was taking ten steps backwards from all the progress you’ve made. “Draco I’m...sorry for how it sounded. I was only making a joke, in retrospect, I understand why it upset him. But I’m not here to hurt you, and I won’t leave.” You promise, “unless you ask me to.”
“I didn’t ask you to leave the last time.”
You cringe at his words. Yes, you had left last time. “In all fairness, you didn’t ask me to stay either.”
“I just thought you knew, that was what I- never mind. It doesn’t matter.” Draco sets off in the opposite direction.
———————————————————————
“Draco will be here any minute.” You tell the man aside of you.
“Brilliant.” He replies, reaching for his pen and tablet.
“Do you mind waiting outside?” You say, hoping it doesn’t come off as rude. “I haven’t told him yet.”
“Oh, yes; whatever will make it easier.” Your guest agrees, with a kind smile.
You catch a glimpse of snowy blonde hair rushing out the cafe door. The hanging bell jingling in his wake.
“Draco wait!” You call after him, chasing him down the pavement. “It’s not what you think.”
“It’s not what I think?” Draco arches an inquisitive brow. “It’s not you having lunch with another man? For someone who claimed they weren’t going to hurt me...you’re doing a bang up job.”
“No you don’t understand,” you hold up a finger, signaling him to wait. “He’s not a man.”
Draco scoffs, “I’ll be going now.”
“Well, alright, he is a man,” you backtrack. “But he’s also a therapist. Who specializes in grief counseling, I asked him here to meet with you.”
“Why?” Draco demands, flickering his eyes between the pair of you.
“I knew you’d never agree to see someone.” You sigh, praying Draco will understand.
“So then why did you invite him here?”
“Because you need someone.” You press on.
“I have you.” Draco shakes his head.
“You need a professional, who can help you sort things out and possibly find some kind of peace.” That’s all you want.
“Peace?” Draco spits, angrily. “Let me spell it out, y/n, and then perhaps you can make sense of it. My dead wife penned a letter, to you. Someone who hadn’t been in my life for over ten years, begging you to come take care of me. Implying that I am some sort of invalid who cannot handle his own affairs.”
“Draco that’s not-“
“That’s not all!” He shouts, the doctor comes within earshot. “It gets better! Because you, actually showed up, on the day that I’m set to put her in the ground. Offering me friendship. You stick around and bring dinner and help around the house and make my son care for you. You don’t get angry when I ask to be left alone, you never miss an opportunity to make me laugh, you tell me that however I’m feeling is alright.
But what if I’m falling in love with you all over again? Astoria has only been gone a little over a year, the woman I made vows to, the mother of my child. My wife who I thought...I was going to spend my life with. I shouldn’t have these feelings for you, it’s too much, too soon.” Draco is on the verge of tears. “So don’t you stand there and tell me it’s alright. Clearly it isn’t.”
“Stop feeling guilty for being human. Stop feeling guilty for being alive. You deserve to be here.” You tell him with fierce determination.
———————————————————————
Over the next two years you and Draco remain friends. Every once and a while one of you will bring up the topic of becoming more. You treat the issue delicately, at first like an open wound, and after a time like a bruise. Occasionally tapping the surface to see if it was still tender, waiting until it was healed and then...
“I loved Astoria very deeply. I will always love her.” Draco says, wringing his hands.
“I know.” You’ve always known.
“But that in no way lessens my feelings for you. I love you, y/n.” Draco finally confesses what he’s been holding onto for far too long.
“Astoria was special. She was nothing short of in love with you and couldn’t stand the idea of you being lonely.” You still think about her letter. “You’re allowed to want things Draco.”
“I want you.” His voice is shaky, “to be a proper family, with Scorpius and if you’re willing, maybe even one or two of our own.”
“I told you, I tried before-“
“We can look into it,” he assures you. “But only if you’d like.”
“Aren’t we a little old?” You laugh.
“Nowadays blokes are having kids well into their forties.” Draco doesn’t see it as a cause for concern.
You narrow your eyes at him. “Ok.”
“Ok?” He blinks, unable to believe his ears.
“We’ll be a family, we already are.” You remind him, this feels like coming home.
“Only now we’ll be more than friends.” Draco says pointedly. “Which means you’ll have to kiss me.”
You feel your heart beat a bit faster in response.
“Which means you’ll have to love me.” He continues.
You nod, staring deeply into his eyes.
“Which means you’ll have to continue putting up with me.”
“Yes, that’s what I want.” You take a step closer, both arms going around his neck. Pulling him in for a kiss, “I love you.” You whisper against his lips, withdrawing hesitantly.
His mouth is on yours in a millisecond, devouring it, coaxing your lips apart with his own, to slip his eager tongue inside.
His kisses taste different than you remember, his technique has changed, he’s older. More experienced, but so are you.
Draco’s hands are in your hair, ghosting over your back, to your bum, squeezing and kneading it as he murmurs, “say it again.”
“Hmm?” Your mind is hazy from his kisses.
“That you love me. Tell me again.” He insists.
Oh. “I love you.” His lips trail across your cheek, down your neck. Nipping at your skin. “I love you.” You sigh as he finds the spot behind your ear. “I love you.”
“I love you, y/n. I need you so badly, I’ve always needed you.” Draco is desperate now, tugging at the edge of your jumper.
“You have me,” you nuzzle his nose.
This wasn’t your first time having sex with Draco, which took away the awkward fumbling and nervousness. But you’d both changed plenty over the years, there were new and exciting things about each other that you couldn’t wait to explore.
When you reach his bedroom, you’re both disrobed, your legs around his waist. Clinging to him tightly, as he lowers you onto the mattress. His erection against your inner thigh. Draco pulls back to look at you. Brushing wayward hair behind your ears and you smile up at him, reassuringly.
“Ok?” You pant.
“Brilliant.” He nods, catching his breath. “Should I use a protection charm?”
“No,” you shake your head, “just don’t be disappointed if nothing-“
“You could never disappoint me. I love you so much.” He tells you, counting the ways against your skin.
Making you lightheaded as he moves over you. It’s you, and it’s Draco, and it’s good, so good. Better than it’s ever been with anyone else, and before you know it, you’re falling. Falling from the stars, only this time Draco is there to catch you.

“You’re not actually going to eat that.” Draco is sure you’re fooling around...at first. “Are you?”
“Of course I am it’s good!” You defend the concoction. “Try some.”
“Not bloody likely.” Draco holds his ground, your feet resting in his lap as he massages them. “I adore you, but these cravings have gotten out of hand.”
“You did this to me!” You remind him, gesturing to your baby bump.
“I remember,” Draco winks, his tongue darting out to wet his lips. “I’m quite proud of my handy work, actually. You’re lovely this way.”
“I’m always lovely.” You kick a swollen foot at him.
“Yes darling,” he chuckles.
“And you’re lucky to have me.”
“Yes darling.” Draco has been very agreeable, given your current state.
“And you’re going to change all the poopy nappies.” You add, just seeing how far he’ll let you take this.
“On one condition.” Draco leans forward, tapping your nose with a fingertip.
“And what’s that?” You cross your arms, awaiting his response.
“Marry me.” Draco says simply.
“Does Scorpius approve?” You asks, his opinion matters most.
“He suggested it.” Draco informs you.
You grin at him, “then yes, I’d love to marry you.”
Draco kisses you sweetly, pulling back to slide the brilliant diamond ring onto your finger.
You can’t help but think of Astoria, saying a silent thanks to the most incredible woman you’ll never get to meet. ‘Thank you for asking me to marry your husband.’

"Merry Christmas"
"Hermione, honey, we really should get going if we're to make it to Potter's house by dinner time." Draco says with an amused grin.
The brunette looks up with large eyes, "just one more chapter?" She asks, batting her eyelashes. "Please."
"Lumos," he mutters, pointing his wand to the darkened pages. Hermione giggles gleefully before returning her focus back to the printed book and leaning against the blondes strong legs.
Never did Draco Malfoy think he'd have this life; spending Christmas with the woman he loved, cuddled up on the couch reading some muggle holiday book while their insufferable cat, Crookshank, stole one of his house shoes to sleep on. Never did he think he could be happy again.
Hermione looks up from her book then, a soft smile appearing on her pink lips. "Merry Christmas, honey." She beams before placing a soft kiss on his mouth.
