RIP Marjane Satrapi, author of the amazing graphic novels Persepolis about living during the fundamentalist revolution in Iran in the 70’s and 80’s. She also created the animated movie based on the graphic novels, which is where these gifs come from.

Amidst scandals related to corruption (his sister accepting bribes, a member of congress being exposed for having connections with drug traffickers and accepting million dollars bribes, constant police repression against the elderly, the disabled and members of the press), the president of Argentina used state money to fund his own private show where he attempted to sing but not only did he not have the rights to those songs, he also has spoken out against all the artists he chose to steal from. Absolute moral decadence.

If I relaxed my body now, I'd fall apart. I've always lived like this, and it's the only way I know how to go on living. If I relaxed for a second, I'd never find my way back.

What an astonishing thing a book is. It's a flat object made from a tree with flexible parts on which are imprinted lots of funny dark squiggles. But one glance at it and you're inside the mind of another person, maybe somebody dead for thousands of years. Across the millennia, an author is speaking clearly and silently inside your head, directly to you. Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, binding together people who never knew each other, citizens of distant epochs. Books break the shackles of time. A book is proof that humans are capable of working magic."

The US can’t afford universal healthcare, meals for the elderly or grants for scientific advancement, but there’s money for a $300 Million bomb for Afghanistan. Right. Got it.
