Sometimes, when there’s enough power, Great Uncle Max will rig his old computer to project one of the old movies on a bedsheet we have nailed to the wall. He used to be an electrician, but now he’s too old for that. They say he can talk to anyone, but he can’t talk to cats.

I like the desert. I never understood why the olds hate it when someone says they hate sand. A collective groan echoes through the room and Great Uncle Connor begins his saying. The saying is repeated often because we live in a desert city. I enjoy the happiness from his face when he gets a chance to complete the saying. “...
