How do they scare people straight?

Last June, one middle-aged union engineer postponed a doctor’s visit for work then died of a heart attack on the job weeks later. A conductor who spoke with the Times began feeling rundown last year but declined to see a doctor for fear of being disciplined for taking an unplanned day off. Instead, he waited months for the next doctor’s appointment that aligned with a scheduled day off. He then learned he’d been suffering from an infection that could have been treated with medication weeks earlier but would now require surgery.

I’ve been in labs for a decade plus, and have been in charge of liquid nitrogen at more than one. I’m used to lil burns from when i should have been wearing longer gloves and i touch metal that’s been in it (takes longer than a burn from a cookie sheet to heal, i am very clumsy) but I’ve avoided anything worse than that. I managed to spill enough on my jeans today that it soaked through long enough that I’m sure it actually burned the skin underneath (a lil splash does nothing). I’m a lil scared to see what it looks like but my pants are too tight to roll up. This is what i get for deciding to be lazy and not move the tank into a better location.
