Hi! I have something I call the Good Dream. Almost every time I dream, I wake up the same place; it is a world with all the nuance and variety and realism of this world. It isn’t a utopia, it is just as bright and just as dark as this world but in different ways; there is less capitalistic exploitation, less war or concentrated mass violence, and vastly more freedom, but much more lawlessness, natural danger (humans survive in nature, they do not dominate it) and more general violence or danger. The laws of nature are different, much of it is fantastical and strange, but the breadth and depth of the dream are insanely realistic; no one is a character, every single person seems like they have a full life that continues when I’m not around them, every conversation and relationship feels genuinely real. It is beautiful and wild, with monstrous animals and strange phenomena, and different culture(s) shaped by the world they’re in. It is also a consistent world; if I build a house and wake up from the dream halfway through, the next time I go to sleep I will still be there and the house will still be half built. People remember conversations from previous times. Relationships build and grow realistically over time, since everyone is such a real person. I have a document describing the details I have noticed about the world and it is a hundred and thirty pages long because the world is so huge and realistic. I know it’s a dream but if I’m being honest it feels much more like waking up in another world every time I sleep in this one.
