Working at the Lowry theatre it’s rewarding that I get free tickets for some of the shows.

Some of the best shows I visited this year were Warhorse and the Curious Incident of the dog in the night-time.

Warhorse was on last christmas 2013 and on during the summer of 2014, it was an extremely busy period at work and during one day we managed to get tickets for the evenings show on a tuesday. After hearing excellent reviews it certainly lived up to it’s expectations. The story summed up is about a boy living on a farm that becomes attached to a horse that his father had bought in a drunken bet, after the introduction of the war, he has to leave, and is distraught about being separated from the horse. Little does he know that Joey the horse also leaves for war as a warhorse. It is an emotionally rollercoaster and is a production for the family. The horse’s in the show were puppets and by the end of the show you had completely forgotten that there were 3 people dressed in black controlling each puppet, you began to feel they were real and came emotionally attached to the main horse Joey. One of the puppets that had stolen the show was the little goose that lived outside the farm. I would suggest to anyone to see this fantastic production. Even though everything was minimal on stage, the great acting, sound effects, and visuals made everything come to life on stage.

Placement

Last summer I had a 2 week placement with Whatever your brand in Hale. I made a number of info graphics and helped them produce an illustrative branding map. I was then asked to come in for a further two more days of paid work where I was making up folders for a client.

Events around University

I attended a life drawing class which was my first ever experience at drawing live models. It was interesting to draw live models and to get a feel for the body movements and helped me speed up my drawing techniques. Something i’d look at doing again.

Good ship salford event

for this event I had make the pirate hats by embossing on the logos. I then helped deliver the invites around northern quarter.

I got lots of advice on the night about my portfolio and will take alot of it on board when producing my next portfolio

Liverpool trip

We visited the Tate in Liverpool and I gained access to view the Andy Warhol exhibition. Also visited the FACT museum.

Manchester 

I visited MOSI over easter and visited the 3D printing exhibition

London

Visiting London over Easter I went into the National history museum and sketched some of the taxidermy there.

Barcelona

We visited a number of art museums in Barcelona and was exciting to take in the city’s culture.

Milan

In february I visited a number of places in Milan, I visited two art museums, and the famous Duomo in the centre. I also got the train to visit the beautiful lake Como

Warhorse

Over Easter me and my friend Jade visited London. We stayed in Watford close to the Harry Potter warner bros studio. On the first day we visited the National History Museum which was a great visit and the best thing is that it’s free for all. It was great to see all the taxidermy animals and learn so much about the history of animals and fossils. The dinosaur exhibition was the best and the sculpture of the whale is huge! We gave ourselves a little challenge and decided to grab out our sketchbooks. We gave ourselves 2 minutes to look at an animal and draw out the outlines and everything as quick as we good in that time limit. it was interesting to see the results. This is definitely something that i’d do again.

Now the main event that we went to see was the harry potter studios! After being huge fans when we were little, and still to this day, it was an amazing day out to see how all the films were created. The studio was dedicated not to the main actors but to everyone else who made the films possible. From everyone in costume, to animation and props who made every little detail come to life. It’s crazy how many people made the films possible. We got to ride on the broomsticks in front of a green screen and we were flying! We tried Butterbeer and saw all the buildings come to life, even diagon alley. At the end of the studio tour there was a room full of wand cases with every name of every person who made the films possible, it was a lovely tribute to end with.

I found a tutorial online how to make a 16 page zine. After experimenting though I’ve discovered the back wasn’t included and the bits that tuck under, so in total this equals to 32 pages including the front and back cover.
