Vanity Fair gives us Ten Rules for the Perfect Smoke Session
Vanity fair gives us the ten rules for the perfect smoke session
“A little marijuana warms the heart, but too much burns the soul,” said one special toker somewhere. Micah Nathan of Vanity Fair gives us the how-to of how-to’s with his list of ten rules to keep in mind for the perfect smoke session in “A Nice Bowl of Weed.” Extraneous rules like smoking with your significant other and watching movies are a given, but remember to make sure you’ve seen the movie sober before making any recommendations to your friends.
1. “Choose Cannabis Sativa over Cannabis Indica.” Choosing strains like Pure OceanGrown Kush, and Ocean Grown Cannabis Cigarettes are the best choice for maintaining an uplifting rejuvenating experience rather than Indicas’ that can make you couch-locked and not able to grab the chips (there so far away).
2. “Choose strong weed and taste samples.” Here in California, sampling isn’t always an option, so opt for quality lab tested meds to see just how much THC it contains, also testing for pests and mold is always a good idea, we feel.
3. “Smoke out of a wooden pipe and avoid small glass pipes.” Obviously, only to maintain the most distinguishable appearance.
4. “Roll the perfect joint.” Micah recommends no more than 3grams per, but obviously…to each is their own.
5. “Forget bongs.” But, but… We can’t forget!
6. “Finely chop your weed with a kitchen knife to avoid losing kief in grinder, and avoid losing potency.” We’re not sure if we entirely agree with this recommendation, but a good grinder that is properly taken care of, and cleaned frequently shouldn’t do your experience any harm.
7. “Choose your smoking companions wisely.” Smoking marijuana can enhance your pre-existing mood. Choose people who are going to compliment the experience, and not take away from it.
8. “If paranoia strikes, retreat to a warm stable environment.” Remember, no one has yet to overdose on marijuana, and most medical professionals agree it’s virtually impossible.
9. “Vaporization is the exception to the rule that the oldest ways are often the best ways.” Vapor is king. Choosing a Volcano or a mobile apparatus is superior to smoke in your lungs, and produces a long lasting effect.
10. “Lastly, eat marijuana with caution.” Make sure you know how many grams of marijuana are in any edible you plan on consuming. Always start small! The key to edibles is staring small and then waiting. If it’s been more than an hour and you feel no effects try dosing a bit more.

First large-scale US Study proves Cannabis "DOES NOT" cause Car Crashes
In “the first large-scale [crash risk] cannabis study in the United States to include drugs other than alcohol NHTSA found that, once the data were adjusted for confounding variables, cannabis consumption was not associated with an increased probability of getting into an accident.
The NHTSA study included more than 3,000 drivers who were involved in crashes during a 20-month period in Virginia Beach, Virginia, plus 6,000 controls who drove in the same area during the same period but did not get into accidents. As usual, the study found that alcohol use was strongly correlated with crash risk. After adjustment for confounding, the crash risk for drivers with a blood-alcohol content (BAC) of 0.08 percent was twice the crash risk for sober drivers; it was six times as high for drivers with a BAC of 0.10 percent and 12 times as high at a BAC of 0.15 percent. But the picture for marijuana was quite different.
Over all, drivers who tested positive for active THC were 25 percent more likely to be involved in crashes. But once the researchers took sex, age, and race/ethnicity into account, the risk ratio shrank from 1.25 to 1.05 and was no longer statistically significant:

Binge Drinking Alcohol kills 2,220 a year, Marijuana Zero deaths
Marijuana vs alcohol is a hot subject as people start to face the unavoidable truths of how dangerous binge drinking alcohol is vs marijuana. Parents must ask themselves: What would you rather have your child doing? Many parents familiar with the effects of both alcohol and marijuana perceive many fatal dangers their college aged children are threatened by through the consumption of alcohol. From violence, car wrecks, unprotected sex, domestic abuse, sexual assault, it’s not hard to see why some feel marijuana is the better bad choice. On average six Americans die each day from drinking too much alcohol – and over a full year, the toll from fatal intoxications passes 2,220, the CDC reported Tuesday. The majority of cases involves middle aged white males between the ages of 35 and 64 according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “Alcohol poisoning deaths are a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers of drinking too much alcohol,” Ileana Arias, CDC’s deputy principal director, stated during a media briefing. “These are preventable deaths… Unlike marijuana, alcohol poisoning is killing people across the lifespan, but particularly men in the prime of their lives. 75 percent of people who die from alcohol poisoning deaths are men, and almost 70 percent are white people, according to CDC. “We were surprised that the majority… of poisoning groups was not in that (college-aged) group,” Arias added. “People tend to think that because they are not in the category that’s at high risk for binge drinking, they’re not then at danger for suffering the harms, including deaths.”
CDC investigators read through the death certificates of people aged 15 and older who died from 2010 to 2012 in the agency’s first study scrutinizing alcohol-poisoning death rates by age. As a result, CDC officials cannot say if the cases of lethal drinking episodes are increasing.
While American movies like “The Hangover” series promote or poke fun at binge drinking, they are specifically targeting audiences for whom the report reflects. Movies like “Kid Cannabis” who document the use of marijuana fictionally crosses the parallel to the main issue, is marijuana use safer than alcohol? Fortunately for weed users, the answer is most definitely yes.
Alcohol consumption causes more cases and victims of domestic violence, sexual assaults, and complete overdose. Marijuana has yet to strike a cord with these categories.
Binge drinking is defined as drinking enough to bring the blood alcohol level to 0.08 percent, which puts drivers past the limit in all 50 states. Too much alcohol in the body suppresses breathing.
“Once one gets above that level of consumption, the risk of death from alcohol poisoning really goes up,” said Dr. Robert Brewer, the study’s co-author and the CDC’s Alcohol Program Lead. “That’s one of the reasons why we think alcohol-poisoning deaths are such an important indicator of the work we need to do to prevent binge drinking. If we could eliminate binge drinking, we would dramatically reduce the risk of alcohol poisoning.”
Clear patterns emerged from the numbers illustrating geographically what states pose the most risk. Eight of those states are in the West: Alaska (46.5), New Mexico (32.7), Arizona (18.7), Wyoming (17.7), South Dakota (17.0), Utah (16.7), Colorado (14.4) and Oregon (12.7), the CDC found.
More than 38 million American adults report they engage in binge drinking alcohol, on average, four times per month – and guzzle an average of eight drinks per spree, according to the CDC. With over 100 million Americans who have tried marijuana, 55% of Americans agree marijuana use is less harmful than alcohol and other drugs.
Medical and recreational marijuana is now legal in 23 states, including Washington D.C. Americans-why not swap out your nightly glass of vino for a joint and lower the deficit? It remains to be seen whether alcohol and marijuana will eventually change places in the public’s perception of what makes a dangerous substance.
