she could be the deadliest enemy we've ever faced...

civvie stuff. historically cass is terrible at playing normal person (ie in this case, girl who is definitely not a vigilante!) but she's trying to learn from the people around her!! any kind of casual civilian interaction could be so interesting, whether it's a book club or a grocery store. she's doing her best!

internship. related to this, i think babs would definitely support the idea of cass getting some kind of internship or job as an effort for cass to have more of a life and identity outside of merely batgirl. does your muse need a quiet, weirdly intense, socially awkward assistant? this could be her!

team-ups. cass is also not great at team-ups! she's a perfectionist who doesn't like to listen to others (notable exceptions are batman and oracle. most of the time.) when she's worried about spoiler getting hurt in a fight, she knocks her out for the duration of the fight rather than communicate this! cass hasn't had a lot of team-ups especially in her earlier years as bg. i think this could be really fun to explore.

team-ups, batfam. i've mentioned (probably too much) how boring i find the fanon characterization of the batfam relationships to be, mostly because i love how complex and messy all of their dynamics are. we've seen cass team-up with tim and steph, mostly, and duke occasionally. but idk i think there's always more to explore there. the bat is so singular to cass's worldview -- she even says to batman that it's not to him she's pledged her loyalty, but to the symbol and what it means. i think for that reason having her interact with any of the other vigilantes in gotham, especially the ones who also wear the bat, could be really interesting.

undercover. undercover work is … not exactly cass’ greatest strength (looking at the last time she went undercover as a journalist to interrogate a prisoner. did it involve jumping through the glass, beating him up, and then fleeing out a window to swim her way back to the mainland? well, yes. but the man in question was also her terrible father, so i think she’s justified.) point being, similar to above, i love when cass has to act in a way unlike her usual self. #acting. let her spy!

déjà vu hit him square in the chest as they waded through the odious murk of gotham's sewers, surrounded by the ever-present chittering of rats and the whispering of water sloshing against concrete. bruce had been trapped down here once, abandoning his post as the dark knight, gotham's most ardent defender. and it was down to robin, to him, to free him from the jaws of blackfire's cult and drag him back into the light. things were easier then. the lines between right and wrong seemed more tangible. he could confidently say that he had a family again. people who loved him. and all of that was snatched from him in his rebirth. nothing seemed certain after his grand return to gotham.

and despite that endless stretch of uncertainty, jason got to work. he mobilised his people, a network of gothamites with former ties to various gangs around the city, and was steadily dismantling both drug and weapons networks. all while maintaining his elaborate crime lord cover and avoiding the various birds and bats that patrolled the streets when the sun went down. for the most part, anyway. running into the new batgirl was an unforeseen hurdle, but she seemed willing to work with him against this ring chanting wizards keen on capitalising on the sale of hallucinogenic drugs to students. ( nothing like a little drug addiction to inspire and exploit some devotion out of the unwilling ! ) and so he was willing to behave himself. for the time being.

she wasn't a big talker, that much was obvious, though she certainly didn't pull her punches when she did. jason could respect that. " you mean . . . nobody told you who i am ? " he was under the impression that he was bruce's latest cautionary tale. " weird. "

she didn't answer his question -- barely heard it, too consumed by the storm of her own thoughts. "batman trained you," she said, slowly. "you died. and now --" her gaze turned, deliberate, to the holstered gun at his waist. "now you kill."

her words were condemnation as much as they were a plea for understanding. if cassandra had been found younger, been trained by batman instead of david cain, a world she can hardly imagine, a world where she'd never been forced to kill at all --
