So close to finishing my embroidery project :3
Terrestrial Flatworm (Caenoplana tenuis), family Geoplanidae, New Zealand
photographs by Uwe Schneehagen
On the way to work I saw a tree that had already turned half red and my parents have put out a Halloween themed dish towel what's going on what month is it
For the fandom oc asks (Victor and/or Vinnie as you said!),
Which canon character respects your OC most? What gained that respect?
Is there someone your OC didn’t like at first, but then got along with later?
Is there someone your OC liked at first, but then grew to dislike?
What is the worst thing your OC does in their story?
It took me a long ass time to finish, but I've finally got these answered! (It was really fun doing these even with writer's block kicking my ass)
-Which canon character respects your OC most?
What gained that respect?
For Vinnie that would probably be Kerry. Vinnie is the kind of person who very bluntly says exactly what he thinks about something, which is something Kerry really likes in a person, but unlike a lot other people he's been close to Vinnie isn't ever intentionally cruel about it, even if sometimes what he has to say stings a bit. What helps a lot with that is that Vinnie is an absolute ride-or-die type, he might think an idea is pretty stupid and he will certainly say so but he'll be right there doing it anyway. He will put his foot down if he's genuinely opposed to something though, which just gets him more respect from Kerry.
As for Victor, while once they become a fixer and the owner of the Afterlife they do get a lot of respect from a lot of people, the person who ends up actually respecting them the most might be Jago. Both of them spent the couple of years from when they both ended up in their respective positions of power to when they first directly worked together having to fight against both the perceptions of people who didn't take them seriously and various assassination attempts, so Jago was already a bit more inclined towards liking them since he can relate to them. After their first in person meeting (well, first meeting with both as themselves) ends with an assassination attempt on both of them by Arasaka Jago's estimation of Victor might have dropped, but the way they handled the situation calmly and effectively actually ended up impressing him. After that, the time they spent in Victor's safe house working together in close proximity and just how well they ended up working together really left Jago with a high opinion of Victor. Another thing he ends up liking is that like him, Victor isn't one to hold resentment over the various times their work as the leader of Barghest and the fixer running the Afterlife puts them at odds. Maybe it's something left over from both of their corporate backgrounds or just a personality trait they bring out in each other, but both are perfectly comfortable with knowing that they're keeping a wide range secrets from each other and have to work against each other from time to time, and it never dulls their mutual respect.
-Is there someone your OC didn't like at first, but then got along with later?
For Victor that would definitely be Panam, with later being after the events of the game. He took her getting mad at him for wanting to get paid for what he saw as a job as a serious insult and as an indicator that she doesn't take them or their job seriously. He probably would have stopped working with the nomads at all after that if he hadn't already begun to befriend Mitch. Then after that her not picking up on even his more overt attempts to rebuff her flirting didn't exactly endear her to him. After his much more direct rejection in the tank makes Panam suddenly very aware that he was not just playing around or doing banter those previous times the two of them avoided each other for a while, him because he really did not like her at all at this point and her because she was kinda dying of embarrassment. This went on for a while, but eventually Mitch gets extremely irritated by every one of Victor's visits to the camp leading to them being passive aggressive about Panam and with Panam being very unlike her usual self and actively avoiding the issue and making excuses to leave every time Victor was around, so in the end Mitch gets so sick of their shit that he forces them to sit down and talk things out. The payment disagreement turned out to be the bigger issue for Victor (she was so obviously embarrassed about the tank moment that he figured out pretty quick that she'd been legitimately fumbling those prior interactions and hadn't been ignoring his rejections intentionally) so once they understood each other's perspective on that better (from Panam's perspective trading favors back and forth is standard practice between nomads since they're generally pretty broke and she was so used to that she didn't think to clearly state her intent to pay him back, so Victor demanding payment when she already anticipated owing him a favor and was even planning to give him a gun as extra afterwards just made her think he was being greedy, while from his perspective she was demanding he work for free) they were able to kinda start fresh and over time ended up getting along pretty well. (They are the kind of good friends that argue constantly though)
-Is there someone your OC liked at first, but then grew to dislike?
Like might be a strong word for it, but Victor tends to feel much more at ease when working with people who also have a corporate background. He certainly doesn't start trusting them, but he feels a bit more in his element. Because of that he initially took somewhat of a liking to Hands. Meeting with the fixer reminded him a bit of meeting with his superiors at Arasaka and he liked how familiar that felt. Then he got the Aguilar job, and by seeing Jago get deadnamed got harshly reminded of what meetings with his often much older and conservative superiors at Arasaka were actually like. One thing about Night City (and plenty of other places in 2077) is that trans people are accepted to the point where intentional deadnaming is pretty rare to encounter, and is well understood to be a pretty fucked thing to do. If a fixer gives a merc information that includes a deadname, that's pretty much always because it's relevant in some way (like if they were looking for records related to someone from before that person transitioned). So when Victor saw that Jago had been deadnamed in the information he'd been given, he tried to determine the relevance of that and came to two possible conclusions. The first possibility was that since the job was to stop Jago from becoming head of BARGHEST, Hands chose to include information that showed that Jago is trans because he believed that would in some way impact his ability to lead. That possibility alone made Victor very uncomfortable. The second possibility was what made him start actively spiraling into anxiety: that Hands was implying that he had Victor's deadname as well and was willing to use it against him. Given that Victor considered his family name to be part of his deadname, and people knowing he was from a notorious Arasaka corporate family would absolutely get him targeted, if that second possibility was what Hands meant to imply, that was a very serious threat. This all knocks his view of Hands into about the Dex range. Then after that he found out that Hands' pick was working with Arasaka, which, since he assumed Hands must have known and approved of this, just makes him dislike Hands even more. This all leads to him turning on Hands and choosing to support Jago instead. The final nail in the coffin for Victor liking Hands even on the level of seeing him as a skilled opponent was the fact that the only retribution for his actions against Hands was getting paid a bit less for the job. It made him realize that either he'd been wildly overestimating Hands or Hands was looking down on him as an opponent, and both possibilities really pissed him off. He ends up maintaining a grudge against Hands for years afterward, and as a fixer constantly is digging up information about him and acting against him for purely petty reasons, especially after his personal and professional relationship with Jago starts to develop.
I don't have anybody (that we meet in game) for Vinnie, but I like the why of that as a character detail so I think that's worth getting into. Vinnie has a pretty chill personality, approaching everything with a general cheerfulness. Because of that it's rare for him to really dislike a particular individual even when he stops liking them. He generally just becomes deeply ambivalent towards them. The members of the Bakkers who pushed their clan to join Snake Nation are probably some of the few people he truly dislikes, since some of them were people he was close to and truly loved and trusted. Having them do something that in his eyes betrayed him and their clan would have hurt him in a way he couldn't be ambivalent about. In comparison it's pretty easy for him to stay chill about people in Night City disappointing him or betraying him since he just doesn't really expect much from city people.
-What is the worst thing your
OC does in their story?
Victor doesn't have one specific moment to pinpoint, but as an ex-corpo he's developed a tendency to turn off his emotions during jobs so that he won't be impacted by his own feelings about whatever he was paid to do, and as an often broke merc also tends to do whatever will get him the most money.
Vinnie is my very good almost exclusively nonlethal attacks boy, so for a merc working in Night City he's a pretty decent person. However a lot of those nonlethal attacks were done with either his fists or a blunt instrument, so he personally is probably responsible for about a third of all serious brain damage in Night City.

I was thinking about how it annoys me when people simplify characters to fit romance love interest types but then had to correct myself because, no, that's not it at all. I read loads of romance, I absolutely understand why someone would like slotting their blorbo into the role of a romance love interest that they like that they think is similar. It doesn't appeal to me personally but it wouldn't really surprise me if it turned out I was pulling from my favorites subconsciously. What actually annoys me is when they slot the characters into roles that don't fit them at all. Like what the fuck do you mean you made that character who would so easily fit into being the cold and manipulative CEO type with barely any changes to his characterization into a soft squishy delicate type who needs the lead to protect and take care of him and can't function without them??? What do you mean you took the guy who's clearly the reputedly barbaric warrior who's secretly calculating and leaning into the barbaric persona for his own ends type and made him a dumb jock??? What do you mean you took that lying manipulative bastard man who was absolutely perfect for some really interesting toxic relationship dark romance shit and made him SWEET EARNEST AND LOVING???? AAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Man I really hope I haven't been accidentally calling Vinnie Vince in other posts or in tags, that's one of my other guys, I can't be getting those two mixed up like that
"I've taken way too long on this already so I'm just gonna post it without fussing about the editing" I said right before realizing I accidentally called Vinnie the wrong nickname for most of the responses. Fine I'll edit the damn thing a little bit I guess
I fucking hate how hard it is to meet people and make friends, there's pretty much nothing in person around here so I'm stuck trying to meet people online which I only really know how to do through fandom stuff, and that puts any friendships formed in an inherently precarious position since they could easily fall apart if the fandom goes to shit
Ugh I wanted to work on some writing stuff during my work break but I've been feeling a bit off from something I ate yesterday and on top of that my coworker is being an asshole and then keeps getting mad at me when I avoid interacting with him because he's being an asshole. I can't get anything done under these conditions
