ESTONIA (Tues): We’ve had a busy busy week, starting on Tuesday we’ve had back-to-back ports. Starting with Tallinn, Estonia. We loved it here. It has an incredible old town, with great Medieval architecture, and a mix of Russian Orthodox. We shopped a bit, and then Ben & I explored an abandoned concert hall that was built for the 1980 Moscow Olympics. More updates soon.

BERLIN: Sunday we docked in Warnemünde on the northern coast of Germany, and took a chartered train to Berlin. It was 3-hrs both ways, so we only had a few hours to get a feeling for the city. It was the first time for Ben & I, but thankfully Jane & Sean had been and they knew their way around. We did some quick highlights: Checkpoint Charlie, Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, pieces of the remaining wall, And Brandenburg Gate. We also ate a full on German lunch with lots of sausages & strudel. Jane got stung by a bee 🐝😖, so Ben & I did a quick walk along the river. We ran into a flea market and found some great prints & a couple records. We also found German Mikey, who somehow manages to look even more scrappy. Some good news! Sean’s bag finally caught up with us, so he now has all his clothes. 🤗 Monday we had a nice day at sea. Ben is fighting off a cold, but we are looking forward to Estonia today. We miss everyone!
Magic Ice (Oslo)
Day 02: OSLO
After cruising north overnight, we docked in Oslo and hit the streets around 10:00am. We knew it was going to be hot, and it was no joke, reaching 96° F mid-afternoon.
We started by taking the Metro up to the Holmenkollen Ski Jump, which offers a great view of the entire city. Oddly, it is right in the middle of a residential neighborhood, sort of like Highland Hills, just more massive. And you can see it from most places in the city.
We then took the metro train back towards Vigeland Park, a Central Park-esque sculpture garden with 200+ statues all created by one artist. They depict different stages of human life, although we couldn’t tell which stage is the one where you kick a baby.
In an attempt to hit all forms of public transportation, we hopped on a bus & then a ferry to the Viking Ship Museum. The museum has 3 recovered ships from around 900AD, and a ton of artifacts. It was very cool (and very warm).
We were delirious from the heat, but managed to get ourselves to the Magic Ice Palace. A wonderful frozen bar, where we finally were able to cool down our bodies for only the cost of a $25 drink. Best money we spent all day.
We headed back early, and had dinner on the ship. Today (Saturday) is an at sea day as we travel to Berlin.

We made it to Copenhagen! 🇩🇰 Our flight was delayed out of Minneapolis by 3 hours, so we missed our connection in Amsterdam. We were rerouted through Paris, and finally made it to our hotel in Copenhagen after midnite, early Thursday morning. Other than Sean’s suitcase not arriving (😖) everyone stayed in good spirits through the 30 hours of travel! Thursday morning we had a few hours before we had to be to the port, so we walked a big loop around the Copenhagen city center. We helped Sean buy some clothes, ate burgers from a converted gas station we saw on a travel show (they were awesome), and admired the odd statues and fountains. We need to find out what the horned creature that guards city hall. We boarded the ship around 3:00, and we watched us leave Copenhagen over steaks & seafood. We are all still out of sync, so we had an early night. Tomorrow (Friday) we land in Oslo. 🇳🇴
On Thursday, Ben & I are off on another adventure. We will be cruising the Baltic Sea with Jane & Sean, hitting Scandinavia, Eastern Europe and Russia. We are so excited. We are going to try and keep up with posts every day, sharing photos, videos and highlights.

Bon Voyage!
Day 1: walking tour of Porto. We had a wonderful guide named Joana, who we also will have on our drive to Vidago. We saw the highlights of the city and got a good lay of the land so we can navigate ourselves without getting lost! The "historic core" of the city dates back a thousand years, and it's built on a giant hill. 🙄 We barely kept up with Joana who is probably 60. Incredibly winding roads, with lots of of amazing tile work on the buildings, a beautiful commerce "palace", and a couple key churches. The one pictured is Franciscan and has 700 kilos of gold leaf inside (can't take pictures). It was really impressive. 😲
We arrived comfortable but exhausted in Porto, Portugal on Sunday afternoon, after two flights and a 3 hour car ride from Lisbon. 10 great days lie ahead of us, with sightseeing, wine tasting, relaxing and countless delicious meals. We will share lots of photos and stories, but for now here is where we will be. :)

Honeymooners
Glacier viewing from our two days at sea. We went up College Fjord on our last day, and saw a few smaller glaciers before reaching the end where the Harvard Glacier was in full view (top). The day prior, we had toured Glacier Bay, which was a little more rainy and gloomy. But as we approached the biggest glacier we saw, Margerie (below), the blue icey mass broke the clouds creating a clear view. We saw some calving, where chunks of glacier break off into the water. It sounds like a thunderstorm, and was very cool.
Photography tour in Skagway, AK -- it was a ton of fun. We learned how to take silky waterfall photos (and other stuff).
A first set of pictures from our helicopter trip up to the Juneau Glacier field. We landed in two separate spots, the second 1500 ft up from our first so we could look back down at the Gilkie Glacier we had just stood on.
Crusin: Part 1
We left from Vancouver on Saturday afternoon, and 72 hours later we are in our second port, Juneau. The cruise ship has been treating us very well, and we are starting to understand the layout and which floor and side of the boat everything is on. The travel is slow and calm, and the views from the balcony are amazing.
So what have we been doing? 1. Eating, then eating some more. 2. Playing Blackjack and Bingo 3. Watching Love Boat ’re-runs
We stopped in rainy Ketchikan yesterday, and had a wet but fun day kayaking around a bay. We saw a (huge) sea lion and a family of eagles. Back on the boat by 2:00; we sailed off. We happy hour’d with some friends who also happened to be on the cruise, and swapped food and people watching stories.
Today, we woke up docked in Juneau, where we had booked a helicopter tour. I’m sure we will do a post on it, but it was incredible. We flew with out and over several remote glacier spots in the Juneau Ice Field, and got unbelievable views and facts on what the heck a glacier actually is!
3 more full days at sea, and then off to Denali for some wildlife/lodge excursions.

Just got back from sea-kayaking. We will post a full recap of the last couple days when we get into Juneau tomorrow morning!
