with a quiet groan, kara turned around. for some reason – everybody had seemed inclined to bother her in public these days. and it also seemed that kara had a giant hole in her pocket, as she had dropped her wallet again. she supposed it was time to find a new jacket, but she could handle that later. “ thanks. i guess. “ she spoke with a quiet tone as kara awkwardly took her wallet back from the stranger who was.. kind enough not to find the wallet and run with it. sparing a tight-lipped smile, kara rocked on her heels, turning around to continue her walk home. “ yeah – thanks, again, guy. ”
“ Bem... ”, he said, by way of admittedly strained self-introduction. He couldn’t recall ever having been called ‘ guy ’ before. It was strange, really, and much more casual than people usually were upon first meetings. Taking a brisk step backward, he offered her an almost frantic, but still rather deep, nod of the head. Bem knew he’d helped. That was all that mattered. It was only a small favour, nothing compared to the lives he’d saved, but every gesture, in his mind, counted. “ Please...try to be careful from now on. ” He supposed he was no good at this, at speaking to people. Humans were always so complicated and there were things he didn’t understand. At the very least, though, her reaction suggested that she didn’t know what he was. His safety was at least a little assured.
