“I’m sorry-- is this yours? It looks valuable and it would be a terrible shame to lose it.” Ann placed little value on material goods herself,   but--  there was no accounting for the senti- -mental value of even the smallest, most insignificant things.

“ ...I apologise. ” His posture perfect ( too perfect but, alas, he doesn’t know it ) and his expression solemn, Bem bows his head. Whether or not he has actually upset her is unclear but, even so, he feels inclined to admit to some sort of fault on his own part. He is too kind for his own good, perhaps.  “ I did not mean to offend... ”

                    “That’s how shit runs in Kyrat. Kill or be                     killed, all that fun stuff. Make sure the                     door’s locked, so my kids don’t come                     running in and see a dead body again.”
