“what happened with your ex, if you don’t mind me asking?”

“you have a point there.  i wish it worked that way normally.”  stefan knew that people who knew him, would always see him one way or another, but people here didn’t know who he was.  “i have no plans on going back down that dark road again.  then again, who knows.  i guess there’s always certain things that could change my mind.”

“Well that is the problem with other people having feelings, sometimes it’s not because whether you can forgive yourself or move on from it, but about whether or not another can forgive you or move past what happened in the past.” That was something he had just accepted. That Phoebe would never trust him again, even if it was in his right frame of mind now. “I intend to prove to myself that i have it together and keep it together. Though if my ex does turn up... well I won’t blame her for wanting me dead again.”

    “still, wouldn’t you say agree it’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all?”

“I have been told that,” he nodded. “Though i’m not sure my ex would agree.” Not that phoebe would have talked to her daughter about him.  

“i like that.  i’ve been able to rebuild myself here.  no one i know had shown up here in years, not untl recently.  so it was actually really nice to do what i wanted with my life, without having to worry that someone was going to bring out my past failures.”

“The only person that needs to remember your mistakes is you, so you don’t make the same times again,” he said. At least that was the way he was going to use it. To be better. To not fall into the darkness again. “Though time does seem to work different here. I’m not sure how long it would be before more people turn up.”

“damn man, that’s a hell of a story.”  stefan chewed the inside of his cheek, brows knitting themselves together, “it took me a while to be okay with people too.  i think i’ve murdered more of them than i’ve actually gotten to know, in the time that i’ve been alive.”  the weight of that revelation pressed down on his shoulders, “i haven’t killed anyone since i’ve been here though.

He nodded on that thought. He had probably killed more beings than he had ever got to know. Given he was limited to like 10 people he had got to know in his life. Half of which were demons. He looked to the other when he said he hadn’t killed anyone here. Not sure that wasn’t something to be pride of but it was something. “Guess this place allows us to be whatever version of ourselves we want to be.”
