I posted it to AO3 here if you prefer to read it there, but I'm looking for advice and feedback to make sure people actually wanna read it. I've only posted the "first chapter" (read as drafted idea for the first chapter) and I plan to remake/edit the first chapter and write up the second chapter before I start posting anymore of the story. I just wanna give it a few days so I can get advice and critiques while I start brainstorming chapter 2.
Fic below the cut!
Dear Izuku,
I hope you understand and forgive me, but I think it's time we see other people. It's not you, it's me. I don't think I'll be able to face you for a while, so please don't be upset if I avoid you for a while and ask that you do the same until I'm comfortable again. I'll let you know when.
I hope you know that our time together was wonderful and that I will always cherish our memories together. I hope you do too.
Sincerely,
Uraraka Ochako
Izuku Midoriya was having a very bad week. This was only the latest of a long list of things not going his way as of Sunday and he wasn't sure if it was just him being unlucky or the universe conspiring against him.
Maybe there was some origin of this bad luck on his normal running path. The first incident had been the disappearance of his hero notebooks during his Sunday workout routine. He'd noticed as soon as he got back to his dorm, but nobody seemed to know where they'd gone and it wasn't like anyone would break into his dorm.
Then on Monday a power surge fried his phone. It didn't seem like any buildings lost power and Iida didn't remember there being one, but he was also uncomfortable and fidgety when asked so Izuku assumed there must have been a mishap with other electronics that caused it. Iida must have just felt guilty.
âHe does use a bunch of electricity without meaning to. It wouldn't surprise me if he caused the surge by accident.â
It wasn't too big of a deal anyways. As long as he had his old MP3 player and his computer he could keep in touch with anyone through messaging apps.
âUnless the Wi-Fi goes down, at least.â
Tuesday saw Hagakure accidentally spill juice all over his homework and notes. He had to stay up late to redo all of them, but he'd refused to let her apologize. There was nothing to apologize for, after all. Accidents happen.
âAt least, I would have refused it if she'd tried to. Did I make her upset?â
The letter showed up in front of his door on Wednesday and he was devastated to say the least. He didn't know what he'd done wrong. She said she was happy. Told him she loved him for the first time on Saturday. Now she was leaving him. It didn't make sense.
âMaybe she was just messing with me like the girls in middle schoolâŚno she's not like that. None of them would have kept it up this long or even showed up to our dates anyways.â
If he was less naively trusting, he may have suspected her of cheating, but as he spent his lonely lunches watching his friends chat from across the lunch room, Uraraka included, he just didn't get the vibe that she had been or was. They all just seemed uncomfortable and sad. Maybe the breakup was affecting their moods too.
So here Izuku was on Friday night, returning alone to a quiet dorm after working out. Recently, everyone seemed to deem the common area as taboo. They all hung out in their rooms or went out until curfew. Izuku hadn't had a real conversation with anyone outside of class activities and questions about his bad luck in days. Actually, it all seemed to begin not long after his notebooks disappeared.
âWhat a weird coincidence.â
Fridays were supposed to be dorm movie night, but it looked to Izuku like that wouldn't be the case this week. He could always watch one on his own but he'd miss everybody's jokes and reactions and Urarakaâs cuddles. It'd taken months into their relationship for either to be so comfortable with any sort of PDA.
âNow she can't even look me in the eyes when class makes us talk.â
Unlocking his door, Izuku prepared for a long night of studying alone when the floor suddenly froze over and the air almost directly in front of him let out a squeal of pain.
âThat's enough, Hagakure,â came the monotone voice of Todoroki from behind. Izuku would have turned to look if his feet weren't also frozen to the carpet, though mercifully protected by his house slippers.
âWhat the hell, Todoroki!â Hagakure fumed, âLet me go! You're gonna give me frostbite!â Izuku had completely forgotten to question what Hagakure had been doing in his room.
âGUYS!â he barked, becoming anxious when they both (he assumed) turned towards him. âW-What's going on? Why are you in my room, Hagakure?â
âShe's been spying on you and looking through your things,â Todoroki explained, beginning to look frustrated.
âWHAT?!â
âTODOROKI!!!â
âShut up!â he commanded, quickly thawing and shoving both of them into Izukuâs room before anyone could notice the noise and come down from Momoâs room.
âYou're not supposed to tell him about that!â Hagakure scolded Todoroki, shuffling awkwardly towards the window since both boys blocked her escape. Not that Izuku intended to. âAnd you touched my boob, you jerkâŚâ
âI'll apologize when you apologize for stealing Midoriyaâs notebook,â Todoroki countered darkly. âYou're the reason everyone thinks he's the traitor!â
âThey think I'm the WHAT?!â
âThat was Bakugouâs idea, blame him! And blame Midoriya for being creepy and spying on all of us!â Hagakure cried.
Izuku had heard enough of their arguing, his head spinning as he placed a hand on the wall to steady himself.
âThat's why everyone has been acting like that? Wait, the power surge, was that intentional?!â Izuku demanded.
âUuuuugh, there wasn't a power surgeâŚ.Kaminari justâŚ.decided to blow up your phone when we started investigating youâŚI told him not to,â Hagakure admitted.
âInvesti-stop! Explain from the beginning. Why did you steal my notebooks? Why did Kacchan tell you to? Why does everyone think I'm the traitor? A-Also, here's one of my hoodies. I wanna at least be able to see who I'm talking to and I-I figure y-you don't wanna b-be n-n-naked in front of usâŚâ Izuku could barely get the last part out above a whisper.
âYou're too nice for someone being suspected of being a villainâŚbut thank you,â Hagakure mumbled while taking the hoodie and sitting on the floor. âMight as well sit, this is gonna take a while.â
Izuku Midoriya was having a very bad week. This was only the latest of a long list of things not going his way as of Sunday and he wasn't sure if it was just him being unlucky or the universe conspiring against him. The next month was going to be much worse.
So I reworked it a whole FUCK TON and that's not chapter 1 anymore. Anyways, it's not posted yet since I was working on creating a backlog of chapters and getting them all beta read.
Needless to say, there's been a lot of changes. I've extended the chapters a little bit. I've been aiming for about 1500-3k words per chapter. I've averaged about 1.9k per chapter so that means I'm doing pretty well. Proud of myself.
Anyways, I'm planning to have it live on 10/12/25 with updates every 1-2 weeks. Keep an eye out on my AO3, but I'd be happy to post the new chapter 1 here too as a nice teaser. Maybe I could post the whole fic chapter by chapter here too idk. I'm happy to get feedback and stuff as I post it. Thanks to anyone that takes an interest.

Saying âIâm back on my bullshitâ is funnier when you cycle through hyperfixations at random intervals because no one knows what bullshit youâre talking about unless youâve made it obvious before or while saying it.
To be back on your bullshit you need to be off your bullshit ever. But Iâm over here jumping from bullshit to bullshit like Iâm playing some kind of platforming game. The only times Iâm not on my bullshit are when Iâve fallen off the platforms and canât get out of the lava to get back on my bullshit.
đ Sonic the Hedgehog ZINE: The 35-year Journey â
In 1991, a game about a blue hedgehog named Sonic took the world by storm. The combination of high-quality platforming and speed-focused sections became a sensation as everyone dreamed about zigzagging across Green Hill Zone at the speed of sound, challenging the devious plans of Dr. Eggman. Starting from the Game Gear and Mega Drive, Sonic as a franchise gradually branched out to new consoles and broadened its horizons: transitioned from 2D to 3D, adopted new game mechanics and characters, expanded with fleshed out stories.
Nowadays Sonic isnât just a game series, but an entire Universe supplemented by comics, animated shows, and even live action movies. Sonic's character became a symbol of speed and freedom â someone whose purpose is to bring people together.
â In 2026, the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise turned 35! To commemorate this event, our team launched Sonic the Hedgehog ZINE: The 35-year Journey. Grace sends this off as a "fuck you" to Stratt and unintentionally eases 40+ years of horrific guilt.
(40+ factoring in the Hail Mary mission, then the time it would take to get back to Erid and the time it would take for the message to get to Earth. Probably closer to 50+ actually).
(I do think Stratt felt bad. She did a lot of terrible things to save the planet, and obviously felt guilt for sending Grace off. I imagine the time waiting to hear back from the Hail Mary was torture for everyone, but she essentially sent three people off to their deaths, one unwillingly. Hearing that Grace made it out alive would be a huge weight off her shoulders.)

Btw the heat *is* why we see water that's not really there, but mirages aren't exactly hallucinations so much as optical illusions:
It's just the changing density of the air refracting light weirdly, so it looks like there's a reflection of the sky on the ground, which our brains often interpret as a pool of water. It can also happen upwards instead of downwards, especially at sea, when the air is much colder near the surface and a warm front appears above it:
Which, btw, is one possible explanation for ghost ship sightings, so that's fun :)
i think we should start openly mocking male creatives who can't figure out how to write women. like actually i think it's embarrassing that it took elliot page transitioning for christopher nolan to give him a good role. why did it take like ten years to get the first female lead in a marvel movie? why is it a Known Fact that stephen king can't write women? why is 50% of the population omitted from large ensemble works? i asked my friend to name a movie directed by a man with a majority female cast and he said ghostbusters 2016. ghostbusters. ghostbusters. g
Experimented a bit with a new way of detailing the tiles. Kinda like it? This particular piece took a hell of a lot of work. Iâd love if you shared the vibes itâs giving off, for research purposes đ

Shitty things about being isekaied #34; every time I use the restroom I automatically reach for my phone I left in my jacket pocket back on earth, and my hand goes exactly where I keep my knives on my belt, so I always walk out of the john with a fresh hand wound
Shitty things about being isekaied #49: dog came with me but the magic field uplifted her into an anime girl and I'm realizing our personalities just don't click (plus her sitting on my lap is weird now)
Shitty things about being isekaied #64: the town blacksmith is an elf named Gay Simpson and I couldnt explain why that made me laugh and now she won't fix my weapons anymore
Shitty things about being isekaied #83: the four dark lords of this world look almost identical to abba which cant be intentional but when they line up on horseback its so uncanny i cant help but wonder if someones fucking with me
Shitty things about being isekaied #102: finally met another earthling but hes like half my age so we dont have anything in common. somewhere along the line he got turned into a musclebound wolfman and every time i ask about it he gets super smug and refuses to tell me how it happened
a few months ago my friend called me and told me she was moving back up near me from 7 hours south in the middle of nowhere and asked if i would help her because she couldnât move the furniture by herself and the town was so small there was no moving company (there were actually only 5 or six businesses in the whole town including both restaurants) and she had no one else down there to ask.Â
And even though money is pretty tight for her, she told me I could name my price if I would help her, because it was so far away.
I told her she was a dummy for thinking i would take her money but that i would accept the traditional helping-a-friend-move price: a meal (i know she would feel wrong about herself if she didnât do something for me in return, thatâs just how she is) Tradition suggests pizza and beer, we opted for enchiladas and a margarita.
we crashed on the floor of the empty place and left back north in the morning - when we got back to the city three more friends met us at her storage place (the place she was moving into wouldnât be vacant for a couple months) and we started to move all her stuff up to a storage room on the THIRD FLOOR (because large city storage places be like that)
we had just taken the first box out of the truck when the (only) lady working there walked by and told us they closed in an hour and twenty minutes, and she couldnât stay even a little late because she had to get to her other job.
One hour twenty minutes. To completely un-jenga a large uhaul and re-tetris it back into a similar sized room on the third floor.
We all just, shared a look, took off hoodies, and got the fuck down to business.Â
It was actually.. I still cherish look we passed around. The tiny eyebrow quirks and chin nods. The eye glints. The bigger breath we each took as we prepared to kick it up several gears. That moment of wordless connection, when we all just silently agreed that we were damn well going to do the impossible and didnât even waste the time it would take to say anything, just got to it.
And we did it too. Finished with exactly two full minutes to spare. And then we all went for dinner and drinks to celebrate. And my friendâs friends that came to help? Two of them were acquaintances/friends of mine already. Like I lived with one for a year a decade ago sort of thing. But this experience? Brought us all closer. Made myself a new friend too.
And the friend i helped move? She and I are closer than ever because of it.
When i left our storage success diner to go home, she asked me again if I was sure i wouldnât take any money.
I said âI ever tell you when I was 22 I went down to Hollywood to try that scene out? Anyway ten months later, when I just couldnât do it anymore, and needed to come back, I called one of my best friends and said i canât do this anymore i need to come back.
You know what he said? He said: Iâll be there tomorrow. Not how much will you pay me, not what do i get out of it, not will you be able to cover my gas, just: Iâll be there tomorrow. Okay? Youâre my friend. If you need help, Iâm going to be thereâ
If helping someone move ruins your friendship, youâre doing at least one of those two things very wrong.
