Next Wednesday, September 23rd preorders will be open for Bees and Their Flowers on Gumroad! Preorders will run from September 23rd to October 7th. All funds made from this digital zine will be going towards The Honeybee Conservancy💛

Zine Schedule

We have a rough draft for the zine schedule! After all emails get sent out (July 22) we’ll have a list of various bees and plants for people to choose from! It’s not first come first serve but we’d prefer to have all the bees evenly represented in the zine!

This zine will take a couple months to make so the first check in will be August 25th! The second check in will be on October 1st and the final check in will be December 1st and we hope to have everyone’s finished piece by January 15th!

Once we have all the finished works we’ll start organizing the zine! We’ll be organizing it for 2 months to make sure everything is perfect and it should be out mid March/Early April! 🐝

Hi! Just wondering when will acceptance letters be sent out?

They’ll start being sent out on July 15th and all emails should be sent out by July 22nd!

Just wonder how many applications we sumbitted (so far) and I hope this doesn't come out rude but do the contributers get a copy of the zine or do we pay for them as well?

Application Requirements

What are the requirements for applying for this zine?

For each application we will require at least 3 examples of your work!

For illustrators: You must be able to show that you can draw bugs and flowers! (you can use Pokemon, Digimon, etc. as your examples) Backgrounds aren't a must but it will increase your chances of your application getting accepted! Digital art is preferred but not a requirement, if you do drawings traditionally it needs to be scanned or the picture quality has to so good it looks like it was scanned! All drawing must be at 300 DPI!

For writers: We’re looking for poets and creative writers! Any example you send is ok even if it isn't about bees or flowers but if you do have poems/writings about insects and/or flowers please use those!

Photographers: Please send in pictures of bugs and flowers for your examples!

More details will be given if you are accepted!

FAQ

Q: Are bee girls allowed?

A: Yes! As long as it’s obviously bee inspired and the drawing also includes bees (the bugs uwo) it’s ok!

Q: Can I apply to be an artist/photographer?

A: We’re in the process of getting an application google doc set up and it will have all the requirements in the description! (But yes once it’s up we will have combinations as an option!)

Q: When will applications be open?

A: We would like to wait till this Thursday (May 9th) to open applications to get a more accurate interest check! Once the applications are open they will close on June 30th!

Q: Does this zine include invasive species?

A: No of course not!! We’re all about supporting species native to North America (North American Honey bees NOT European honey bees!)
