Eustace stands out in the major crew of the Romanov I. He’s lanky, tall, hunchy, brooding … and also one in a very small population of experimental people spliced with alien DNA.

He was raised from a test tube in one of the most innovative labs in the ASP. There were around a hundred other ‘successful’ babies like him. But their ‘other halves’ were simple organism, so it was presumed the children would be simpler too. It was truly considered incredible that Eustace made it on board the Romanov I at all!

But of course this is all just really stupid and ignorant speculation. In fact, the alien organism Eustace is spliced with is far more complex than people realized, and that’s because it’s actually multiple organisms operating as one. Eustace sort of assumed everyone heard little ‘voices’ in their heads. Like … he just thought his conscious was really loud and had multiple voices and opinions and stuff. But, no, that’s just some of the alien DNA shining through.

BUHHHHGHH OK ok im gonna do a character run down for Lanny and Nisha

Advik (Nisha) Bedi was born in India to a middle-class family. He had an older brother and a younger sister. His parents, who were prominent astronomists, decided to enlist Advik in the Australian Space Program. Here, Advik would become Nisha, and she’d take an interest in Engineering and Environmental Science. Her transition was never easy in this environment, but Nisha was taught to be strong by the very people that now sneered at her. She rejected any judgement, any bias, and most of all anyone who questioned her skills and worthiness to eventually lead missions. Nisha did more than excel in her program, she reflected the very foundations of her Brother and Sisterhood. All of these incredible things, paired with her strong call to leadership and impossibly quick thinking under pressure, would eventually lead to her being named Captain of the Romanov I.

Lachlan Barnes was born and raised in Australia, under the care of the Australian Space Program. His mother, Katlynn Barnes, was only 17 when she found out she was pregnant, and 18 when she gave birth. Lachlan’s father was a man twice Katlynn’s age, who disappeared overnight when he found out she was pregnant. Katlynn, without the means to carry for Lachlan, sadly and tearfully gave him up. She had no idea he’d be tossed into the ASP. He thrived in the place, though. He shone like the sun itself in the company of his brothers and sisters. He was especially fond of his friend Advik, who only seemed to push him farther in both his physical and mental education to prepare for a life in the cosmos. Lachlan excelled in Bioinformatics, and was such a magnet to people it was like leadership was attracted to him too. This all culminated in his tie-up election as the Captain of the Romanov I. 

Lanny and Nisha function best as a single unit. It’s why it was so easy for them to be elected as official Captains together. They were never officially married, but in the sense of ASP they’ve been legally bound for nearly 20 years now. They love each other more than anything in the world … but that’s a flaw at times. They have difficulty making the ‘hard decisions’ without one another, which is … very … inconvenient for their current situation/conflict.

Despite Adanell’s incredibly tough and jagged and scarred exterior, he truly is a simple man with simple wants and needs … the idea of a 750+ y/o seven foot elf lord happily catching salmon and bass with his bare hands and being a huge dork about it is just so very fun and charming to meeee
