my new project IDOLATRESS is coming soon. here's how you can help get it out there!
it's 2018, and the internet is unbearable.
last year, one of the biggest names in alt-pop died as she was livestreaming the visual companion to her second LP. her death was graphic, horrific, and it seemed to defy the laws of physics. alia dor is dead and buried. a tragic suicide, a great artist gone far too soon, another face in the VMAs' in memoriam segment. but youtuber-turned-music critic jules levy isn't quite satisfied with that narrative. he's certain there's more to the case--certain that something far more sinister is going down.
jules sets out to understand the horrors that unraveled, and to understand the dead woman herself. but the more jules investigates, the more he is drawn into a bizarre, spiritual conspiracy--one that threatens to ruin his life if he gets too close to the truth.
but, of course, he can't help but get closer. what kind of person could resist?
hi! those of you who know me outside of the professional sphere might know that for the past year or so, i've been working on a longform web fiction piece about pop star's suicide. i've made the decision to self-publish so that i can make this piece fulfill my personal vision for it, and i'm happy to announce that the project is moving along full steam ahead. i've started coding the first few chapters, and i'm mocking up the rest. but! a web developer i am not, and these things cost money to learn and make. enter... ko-fi! here you can donate to help get this piece done. all donors will be credited on the final site! i love you!
who am i?: bee hyland! i'm a writer, artist, and academic. (and a nanny, and a personal assistant, and a freelancer and and and). i have a short story collection out through winding road stories called ethical necromancy, i have some poems scattered about various lit mags, and a short story soon to be published in beneath ceaseless skies.
your money goes towards: web hosting, web development, paying anyone who contributes visuals, increasing accessibility.
optimistic release date: late august 2026
thank you!
Been a minute! I'm trying to have the plaintext done by June; I will be at a retreat in July. My pace on this project was set back by some health issues but I am back on the grind!
