"A stranger looked back at him from behind the glass. His optics were black, with piercing red dots in their centers. They were too small for the dark sockets that they sat in. The lids were rudimentary, paintless sheathes that clicked open and shut, held in place by bent wires as they, too, were too small for their sockets. Deep, sharp chasms cut through his face, curling down from his optics in the shape of lightning bolts, splitting his lips, and slicing through his left cheek-plate. As if to prevent them from splitting any further, small strips of metal were welded over the gashes, giving the appearance of staples.

It was a monster. A hideous, horrific, monster."
