Let It Out
ââ- âAh, so you recognize me too,â Loki replied. âWonderful. I suppose that does cut down on a certain level of awkwardness given the situation at handâŚâ The desire to grin was difficult to suppress, though the seriousness of their predicament weighed heavily upon his shoulders. He couldnât quite convince himself that he didnât have to be so serious, because he did, no matter how much that displeased him.
âMy name is Loki,â he added. âAnd I donât know the exact details of whatâs happening, but I have a theory. What I do know is that you and I have been connected in a way that we can never extinguish.â It was best for all parties involved if Pietro and Loki had a decent standing with one another. The last thing either of them wanted was for the person who constantly invaded their minds to be some sort of enemy.
âBut I donât think itâs best for us to discuss whatâs happening out in the open. I think we should find shelter, somewhere where we wonât be overheard. There are plenty of prying ears in the world and the information that we need to discuss is of a sensitive topicâŚâ
Sighing, Loki ran his fingers through his hair. In truth, he hadnât expected to find the boy that flooded his mind. He didnât expect Pietro and his sister to be real. What he had expected, however, was to come up empty handed, to discover that although the Mind Gem was no longer present within him, her effects were still lasting. In a way, that was still true, but he didnât expect to find someone on the other end of his link, he expected to find that he was, in fact, losing his sanity.
He should have been pleased that he wasnât, but for some reason, he had a difficult time rejoicing about it.
âAnd what might your name be?â he asked. âFrom what Iâve seen, I know quite a bit about you, but Iâd prefer you tell me your name than to assume that I know it.â Pietro, heâd heard his sister say it multiple times. Sometimes Loki was not watching the world around him through his own eyes, but watching Pietroâs world through his eyes. Why the connection with his sister was so much weaker, he didnât know, but he hoped to find out now that he and Pietro stood face to face.Â
Loki. He had heard that name back in the labs in Hydra as they looked at images on their screens and ran admiring fingers along the staff that contained the jewel that had infiltrated his and Wandaâs bodies. Yes he had heard about Loki and it got to him briefly as he wondered if this here was the same one.
If it was then that meant his mind connection had been with a god. A god that had caused a significant amount of damage to the states but a god nonetheless. Now he was downright curious as to what was actually going on.
Discussing it elsewhere was a smart idea. Doing so here with the worldâs eyes on them was only going to further complicate things. He wasnât sure where they could go- he hardly knew where they were. He just knew that stopping here had been something that needed to be done- and now he knew why.
âMy name is Pietro Maximoff.â he replied in a simpler tone even though nothing about this whole ordeal read simple. No, it was far from simple. It was more like overtly stuffed into something already too complicated.
Did this have to do with something they had done to him back at Hydra? Side effects that they hadnât confided in him about?
âWhere do you suggest we go?â Was anywhere ever private? It seemed like there was always someone around- someone doing something to draw back that layer of privacy. Heâd never had it- for as long as he could remember.
