The sun shone warm on your face, not ready to open your eyes you raise your arms above your head to stretch your stiff back and giggle softly as strong arms wrap around your waist and pull you flush against their warm body.

“I thought you would never wake up,” Steve whispers softly in your ear.

Cracking an eye open you look back at him and smile. “Have you been watching me sleep again, Rogers? Because that’s hella creepy.”

“I can’t help it, you sleep forever and I can’t not look at you,” he replies burying his face in your neck and leaving sloppy, open mouth kisses on your skin.

You squeal playfully and try to turn in his iron hold on you to push him off. “Gross, Steve. I don’t need your slobbery cooties,” you tease.

Steve makes a soft harumphing noise and lets you spin to face him. He kisses you softly on the tip of your nose, you caught the mischievous glint in his eyes but before you could do anything to react he was licking a thick stripe up the side of your face. He wasn’t expecting you to actually shove him and send him tumbling backwards off his side of the bed. Steve lands on the floor with a solid thump and an ‘oof’. He pouts up at you from the floor where you giggle like a mad woman and wipe the spit off your face.

“You had that coming,” you argue before he could protest or act wounded. You swing your feet out from under the covers and move over to your dresser to pull clothes for the day out. Pulling your favourite t-shirt on over your head and finding your comfiest pair of jeans you cast Steve a stern look when you notice he was still sitting on the floor, watching you get dressed with a goofy grin.

I could NEVER wear Steve’s uniform. I’m not him and I won’t pretend I am. … Just cause I’m not him doesn’t mean I can’t honor his memory. 

Summary: Bucky Barnes is a quiet fellow when it comes to socializing with you. After one mishap, however, he finds a way to communicate his feelings without speaking so much. You’ve soon come to learn that not every relationship has to be verbal to be important.

Notes: The AU we all need but don’t have enough of it: BUCKY ALIVE AFTER THE WAR. Just a silly thing that was on my mind for months but I just couldn’t bring myself to write properly. This is my first time writing the Howling Commandos and Peggy so I apologize if they’re too ooc. :/ Featuring this drabble I wrote a while ago. Hope you guys enjoy it! The war was over. 

Bucky still couldn’t quite believe the said fact is true despite his current sight: 

Steve and the Commandos dawning over cheap beers in a shitty German bar as they celebrated the homecoming. 

He had been through hell and back while fighting alongside the team, unable to decide what had been worse between being captured by HYDRA from having to walk over a pretty much literal hell. 

It was funny how so many things had changed and so many things remained the same during the war. 

Steve had changed, physically at least, but their friendship didn’t. If anything, it just got more stronger. Bucky himself had changed, or so he wanted to believe he did. There was no way you could see what he saw without letting that change you for a tiny bit. 

But there were the things that didn’t change. And well…

The Howling Commandos talking about girls was one of them.
