Oh, Katy.  I was excited to see that you had finally changed your mind and embraced feminism, seeing as you’re an influential public figure and someone who deals with sexism often as a pop star in the music industry.  Unfortunately, during an interview with Karl Stefanovic of The Today Show in Australia, you still couldn’t quite get a grip of the word’s meaning:

"I used to not really understand what that word meant but now that I do, it just means that I love myself as a female and I also love men."

Not quite.  It’s great that you love yourself, sure, but I’d like to take a second of your time and actually define feminism for you.  Actually, other celebrities who have announced themselves as non-feminists should listen in as well (I’m looking at you, Lady Gaga and Kelly Clarkson).

According to Merriam-Webster, feminism is defined as “the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities.”  Not clear enough?  Here’s another definition: “the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes.”  Get it now?

Let’s educate ourselves in the future before making claims about something we’re clueless on.  Katy, I don’t doubt that, by definition, you’d be a feminist, but please stop spreading false information around.

Now see, this is what I am opposed to. Who placed you in charge as The Feminist Police to tell other women what they can and can’t do?

Why do you quote the dictionary like it’s some unquestionable Bible? Does that mean you are the preacher who cannot be questioned? Anyone can quote a dictionary.

And one more thing, what qualifies you to be the sole authority on what feminism is? Who appointed you the guardian over Katy Perry’s life, or any other woman for that matter?

This is what I can’t stand about feminists. They immediately place themselves in charge of other women and then project all their insecurities and issues with men onto you.

People think that the LGBT-community is a nice, non-discriminating community. This is true if you are L or G. I don’t know about T, maybe they are accepted, maybe they are not, but me and my boyfriend are bi-sexual and L & G’s are not accepting of that at all. Being discriminated against doesn’t make them less discriminating towards us.

I don’t feel accepted in the LGBT-community and feel WAY more accepted in the cis-community. In the LGBT-community they are constantly doubting me and my boyfriend’s sexuality.

At almost every social LGBT-gathering I go to where it is known that we’re bisexual, I get told by a gay guy that there’s no such thing as a bisexual man and that’s my boyfriend is just a closeted gay. There is also always a lesbian coming up to me telling me one of the following: “I’m a traitor to the lesbian community.”, “Girls can’t be bisexual because that means you are half lesbian and lesbians don’t like dick.” or “I’m just a straight girl that wants to please her boyfriend with treesome’s.”. Not to mention the let’s-ask-insulting-questions-time. “Are you bisexual because you aren’t monogamous (I’M NOT POLY)?” “When do you think you are going to break this off for a girl, because bisexuals can’t commit to one gender?” …

The cis-community has their bigot’s and I’ve met those aswell, but if a bigot says something like that to me in cis-public, people give them an ugly stare or even defend me without knowing me. If a gay or lesbian says something like that to me during an LGBT-meeting, they get nods and gay friends will ignore it and tell me they are wrong in privet.

SJW privilege is thinking it’s totally reasonable to tell toddlers that they are rapists.

SJW Culture is being angry that there are white children in a preschool for underprivileged kids and figuring that they are more likely there to further some sort of agenda than because they come from some sort of underprivileged background.

Cishet, middle-class/upper-class white women.

Feminism is so incredibly exclusionary of people belonging to the GSRM community, people who are not white, and people below the poverty line that I cannot believe any of these ignorant ham sandwiches have the audacity to claim that feminism is for non-straight, non-cis, non-white, non-wealthy individuals.

It’s not.

If you’re mad at people rejecting the feminist label because it has so many negative connotations, then maybe you should, I dunno, do something to fix those connotations? By looking down on and insulting non-feminist women, all you’re doing is pushing them further away, not to mention anyone else who’s on the fence about feminism.

This is so ridiculous. I’m not sorry if this offends, but this is my opinion. 

Actually, I don’t. 

Last time I checked, I chose how to run my life. 

No one is forcing me to stay home and feed a baby. I can have a career and chose to have a child when I’m ready. I can still work even after I have a baby. 

I know men that love to cook for their girls. I also know couples who like to cook for each other equally. Most men value their women and don’t see them as a sex object. 

I’ve written very opinionated arguments and have had them read by several groups of people. My opinion was valued and not seen as a “dumb-over emotional” women. 

People who blame rape on the victim are ignorant and aren’t looking at the rapist. Though there are a lot of people in this world who hate rapists and would want the rapist to fry. 

Pretty sure abortion still exists for women. Also, it’s not just for women who were raped. Women who can’t afford a baby, don’t want a baby, or a young teenager, it’s option for them as well. It’s not just men who try to take away abortion rights, there are women as well. 

You pretty much already said that. But again, a lot of men are great listeners and do give a shit about your feelings. Most of the closest people to me have been men.

I don’t need feminism to teach my daughter or son that their body is fine the way it is. I can do that from my own personal feelings, experiences, and my own way of parenting. Whether my child has a vagina or penis, BOTH genders should be taught to love their bodies. 

Of course no one is forcing me, these lists of reasons you created are why I’m not. 

I’m sure some feminists are going to get mad and send me hate, but I could honestly care less because this is my opinion. I don’t need to follow the old ways of doing things, and it’s not just men who contribute to these issues. Women do it to. There are women who shame someones body for not being “skinny” enough, some women want to abolish abortion, some women think a girl should stay home with the baby, etc.

Nah, dude. It’s not that misogyny does more damage than misandry, it’s that misandry simply doesn’t exist, because men, as the group in power, aren’t oppressed on the basis of their gender. Anyone who thinks that feminists who make misandry jokes as a response to misogyny are hypocritical clearly has no understanding of systematic oppression. I have spent years thinking about my views. I went through a nice feminist stage where I was all about equality, and now that I’m older I am so far past that. Advocating for egalitarian treatment is the most unproductive thing a person can do while still calling themselves pro-social justice. Calling attention to inequality and male privilege, including through misandry jokes and the “generalizations” of men that everyone gets so up in arms about, is more radical and, well, more useful.
