You have literal God, tormented by his complete lack of control over his creations because of the gift of free will.

And then you have humanity creating the machines to continue their war, machines with no free will of their own, and humanity is destroyed by it.

And then you have Minos who builds a safe harbor for the sinners of lust because he doesn’t believe they did any wrong in the first place, but then you hear of his utter disgust for the minotaur as a idol of his past mistakes. The minotaur is a type of scapegoat in a way really.

And thinking about it, so was Lucifer. God’s last terrible act against his creations cast down into hell, never to be witnessed by the other angels in a sacred oath.

While trying to come up with a Lucifer design I’ve noticed that Phanuel may be inspired by the symbol used in Alchemy for Vitrol: The Green Lion Devouring The Sun

The lion eating the sun comes up I believe more than once in Ultrakill, though I can’t remember where exactly other than in 8-1. However, Symbols from alchemy are very much present, specifically the Tria Prima, which you can see on the skulls and on podiums that hold torches.
