Some factoids about Septicflesh
They’re from Athens, Greece.
They go WAY back. Septicflesh’s roots go back to the late 80’s. Their first full length album came out in 1994. They broke up in 2003 but got back together in 2007.
Their reasons for breaking up are varied, but during that time lead singer and bassist Spiros got a master’s degree in fine art and his brother, guitarist Christos studied classical music composition.
Their other guitarist, Sotiris is the principle lyricist and song writer for the band, and provides clean vocals, while Christos is responsible for the symphonic aspects of the band’s sound, and Spiros does the album artwork.
While they’re now known as a Symphonic Death Metal band, they were not always such - in their early career they were much closer to Death-Doom or just plain Death. Their sound has become more epic since their reunion.
Much of their lyrics focus on subjects like human nature, mythology, occultism, and metaphysics.
Spiros is an accomplished visual artist, known by the artist name Seth Siro Anton, and his artworks are reminiscent of Francis Bacon. He uses photoshop sparingly - most of his works are photography or paintings.
Spiros has done cover artwork for Paradise Lost, Moonspell, Kamelot, Soilwork, Exodus, Decapitated, and many other bands.
Christos works with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra to develop the symphony aspects. The upcoming album, Codex Omega, is the 4th album to feature this collaboration.
Other projects members of Septicflesh have been involved with: TheDevilworx, Decapitated, Behemoth, Chaostar, Nightfall, Firewind, and Aenaos.
