Banna Secret Santa Exchange 2018
Hello
With the news of a movie hopefully the downton fandom will slowly come back to life and of course hopefully there will be interest in another secret santa for anna and bates in 2018!
Like normal, anything is welcome, fics, fanart, fanmixes, graphics, gifsets, anything you can think of that celebrates banna.
If you are interested in joining up please please please send a message or an ask. Reblogging saying you want to join does not count as I donât know if youâre just expressing an interest and might change your mind, which has happened before. So if you are interested in committing send a message/ask.
Also to reiterate please donât sign up if youâre not really sure. itâs happened for two years running and resulted in some people having to do two secret santas to make sure no one was left with nothing and itâs not fair for someone to get something then not give a gift back. plus itâs not fair that someone has had to work hard on two gifts when it wasnât their job.
If you are still interested when you send your message please include if there are any things that you would rather not receive (themes time periods etc and also what you are willing to create if you can (fanfics etc and if you know the time period you might be writing in). The secret  santa selection process is done through a random number generator itâs important that no one receives something that might trigger them.
Please sign up for 30th October. Secret santas will go out on 1st November.
You can post your creations 21st-28th December, though this is flexible
Please signal boost even if you donât want to join so it reaches more people and hopefully spreads the banna love for another year!
Thank you
FINALLY! I am so, so, SO sorry for the delay @anyvelez but Merry Christmas! ( @batesessecretservice )
Seriously, could not be more sorry for how long it has taken me to do my Secret Santa bit. Life isâŚmadness. And Iâm so rusty writing-wise but I ended up quite enjoying myself with this one and it ran away with me.
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and that 2018 brings you and the rest of you lovely Banna lot everything you hope for and more.
xxxx
(PS thank you @me-and-mister-bates. You are a lifesaver and a wonderful human being).
@silly-beggar aww, this was just wonderful! I loved their conversation about marriage whilst Anna was holding the baby and your descriptions of a typical Christmas day were just so perfect and true!
Dreaming of the Future
A present for @nurs3gir1 as part of the @batesessecretservice Banna Secret Santa Exchange 2017. Iâm so very sorry that this is late, itâs been a crazy few days. A belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! As always, the most wonderful @silly-beggar helped me.Â

@me-and-mister-bates what a sweet little oneshot, especially the end paragraph. so poignant and beautiful and so like John. of course his children will love him!
This is my contribution to the @batesessecretservice Secret Santa exchange for @annambates. I used the mood board she made for my birthday earlier this month as the cover art just because I could. It's the best part of the whole thing if I am to be completely honest. For reals.
@lemacd123 what a wonderful tale! Poor John though, lol! Though Iâm sure the sacrifice of the beard was worth it. loved this!

Santaâs Secret 3/3
This is a three parter for @breakfast-at-bateses as part of the @batesessecretservice Secret Santa program
Chapter 3
Anna was surprised to see John come down the stairs so soon after taking the tray up to Jack.
âMy, that was quick, John! Is he okay after hearing your explanation?â
âI wasnât able to give him it yet. He said he was tired and just wanted to go to bed. I told him youâd be up shortly to wish him good night.â
Anna looked anxiously at her husband upon hearing about Jackâs refusal to discuss the Santa issue any further. âSo, thatâs it then? Heâll just have to deal with what that Fellowes boy told him. He wouldnât hear what you had to say?
âOh no Anna. Â He said he does want to listen to me, just not tonight. Heâs had a big shock today and some sleep should help him release some of the stress heâs feeling right now. It might also put him in a better frame of mind to hear what I have to say and accept it as the truth. And, besides now I can tell you what I plan to say to him. We both have to be on the same page on this if weâre to salvage Christmas and Santa Claus for Jack.â
Several hours laterâŚ
John and Anna were both peacefully sound asleep when their bedroom door slowly opened, and young Jackie tiptoed over to his dadâs side of the bed.
He started to giggle as he heard his father snoring, wondering how his mummy was able to sleep through such a racket.
âDa!â Jack shook his fatherâs arm⌠âDa, wake upâ.
John let out a low groan, nestled back down into his pillow and began to snore again
âWake up da, wake up!â Jackie shook his dadâs arm more vigorously this time. Johnâs eyes popped open followed by him quickly bringing his fingers to his lips. Â âSsshhhh, Jack. We donât want to wake up mummy.â
Jackie nodded and pulled on his dadâs arm⌠âI woke up a while ago and I canât sleep, Da And you said anytime I want to talk about Santa just to tell you⌠So, I am telling you, I want to hear the truth about Santa.
John carefully got out of bed, looking back to make sure that Anna had not been disturbed. She looked beautiful, as always, and thankfully sound asleep.
John bent down to Jackie and whispered⌠âCome on then mate⌠Letâs leave mummy to sleep. Tell me where you want to talk about Santa⌠your room or downstairs in the parlor?â
Jack pondered the question posed by his father for a few seconds and then told him that he would like to go downstairs in the parlor. Jack liked the idea of having a talk with his dad like a grown-up. Plus, he was afraid if he was in his bedroom he might fall asleep.
Hand in hand, father and son made their way quietly down the staircase. They settled onto the settee with John stretching his long legs forward while Jackie pulled his legs underneath him on the sofa cushion.
âFirst son, Iâm sorry I wasnât the first one to tell you the truth about Santa Claus.â John saw Jack bite down on his lip and look downwards. When he lifted it back up, John could see the beginning of tears in young Jackâs eyes.
âThen itâs true? What Julian said⌠Itâs true?â
âJackie, Julian told you what he believed to be the truth and there are many people who believe the same as he does. But mummy and I donât believe what he told you, because we know better. We know the real secret about Santa. And tonight, Iâm going to share that secret with you.â
âYou are?â
Bates chuckled as Jack straightened up in the couch, his mouth half-open with eyes opened wide.
âYes. And you want to know why?â
Jackie nodded his head as he leaned toward his dad on the opposite end of the settee.
âBecause of how much you have grown this year,â was Johnâs simple answer.
Jack grinned as he agreed with his dad. Thatâs true. Iâve grown up a lot. Mummy says my feet are getting so big Iâll be wearing your shoes next year⌠and my pants legs donât reach my shoe tops anymore. She says Iâm all legs just like you da! Then he paused as he seemed to ponder some missing part of the explanation. âBut, Julian is way bigger than me.  Shouldnât he know Santaâs secret too?â
âWell, Iâm not just talking about growing up on the outside, Jackie.  Iâm talking about how much youâve grown on the insideâŚhere.â John reached forward and tapped his sonâs chest⌠right above his heart. âNot only are you taller son, but mummy and me can see how much your heart has grown too.â
Jack pulled open the top of his nightshirt and looked at the spot his dad had just touched. Looking for some outward sign that his heart, indeed had grown.
âBut how can you and mummy tell, Da?
We know by all the nice and thoughtful things youâve done this year. Remember when mummy was really sick with a cold?â
âYes, and I brought her water and played real quietly so she could sleep more and get better?â
âExactly. And remember that nifty chain for my pocket watch that you got me for my birthday? How you paid for it yourself with money youâd save by doing extra chores around home?â
Jackie shook his head yes.
âAnd just recently, how you stood up to Julian for pushing down Sally in the schoolyard?â
At the mention of Julianâs name John saw Jackieâs face darken momentarily. âThatâs when he told me about Santa. He couldnât push me down so he laughed at me and said there was no such thing as Santa.â
The signs quickly became apparent as John saw that his son was about to start brooding over what happened. Â He knew he had to move forward before Jackie succumbed to what Julian had told him in the schoolyard.
âIn fact, Jack⌠Your heart has grown so much that I think it is timeâŚâ
âIt is? Time for what?â Jackie eagerly asked his dad.
âMummy and I think that it is time for you to become a Santa Claus!â
âM-m-me? Santa Claus?â
âYes son. Youâve probably noticed around Christmas time that most of the people you see around the village, looking like Santa are just people dressed up, pretending to be Santa?â
âMr. Carson always pretends to be Santa when you go to Downton.â Jack eagerly chimed in. âHe couldnât fool me. I knew it was him! And in Ripon Iâve seen them dressed up ringing bells in front of the stores!â
âRight, And that is why a lot of people, including Julian think that there is no such thing as Santa. Itâs because they arenât ready to be a Santa yet⌠But You ARE! Can you tell me what you think the best thing about being Santa Claus is, son?â
âHmmm well there is cookies and hot chocolate that you get from the homes you visit. I always thought that was why Santa had such a big belly, from all the sweets he got at Christmas.â
John chuckled and nodded. âYesâŚyes⌠that is a very good reason, Jack. But can you tell me what the best reason to be Santa Clause is?â John reached over and touched his sonâs chest again.
Jack bit on his lower lip as he looked at that magical spot his dad had just touched. His face lit up and he said, âI know, Da! I know! Itâs the good way your heart feels when you make someone happy by doing something for them!â
âWell done, son! I think it is now time for YOU to do your first job as Santa.â
âIt is⌠really?â  Jack could barely contain his excitement. His first job as SantaâŚBut where to start. âUh, can you help me think of something to do for my first time? I want to be the best Santa I can be!â
âIâll be happy to help, Jack.â John paused for a moment and then made a suggestion. âHereâs a thought. Let me know what you think about this idea as your first act as Santa. Why donât you pick one friend or neighbor and find out something that they really need. Then we can go into town and get whatever it is for that person⌠Youâll wrap it all up and seeing as tonight is Christmas Eve weâll go out late, place it on their doorstep and most importantly, never reveal to them who it came fromâŚAnd you know why we will do it this way, Jack?â
âThatâs easy Da. Because when youâre a Santa, Christmas isnât about getting credit for nice things you do. Itâs about giving to others and making them feel good.â
âYouâre absolutely right, Jack! And now, what say we go to bed and tomorrow morning you can tell me who you want to give your first gift to as Santa.â
âOkay da. Â Good night. Thank you and thank mummy for sharing Santaâs secret with me.â
Christmas DayâŚ
At the Batesâs the stockings, which had been hung by the chimney with such care, had been emptied and their contents strewn upon the parlor floor. Â Young Jack was as excited as he could be as he played with the new puppy that John and Anna had given him. When pressed with a name, Jackie immediately responded.
âRudolph!â He exclaimed. âEvery Santa needs a Rudolph!â John and Anna laughed at the new puppyâs name as a warm fire blazed in the hearth and the heat from the oven further warmed their cottage full of love and the Christmas spirit.
Far across town in a less merry part of the city, a colorfully decorated package sat on the doorstep of a rundown flat. Mid-morning a person emerged from the house and picked up the package, their hands covered by threadbare gloves with holes through which their fingers peeked out of. Looking from side to side thinking this must be some mistake, the package was quickly ripped open and found to contain a pair of warm leather gloves with fur lining. In a blink of an eye the old gloves were thrown aside replaced by the newly gifted ones.
The wrapping had been discarded onto the ground but just as they were set to go back inside the glint of a white tag caught the recipientâs eye. Bending down to see if it held some clue as to the benefactor, they were shocked to read the inscription.
The tag contained only two lines:
To: Julian
From: Santa
@gilroy95020 oh what a lovely final part, I have always liked the idea of this theme and I think you did a wonderful job!! Loved the ending!!!
Santaâs Secret - Part 2/3
This is a three parter for @breakfast-at-bateses as part of the @batesessecretservice Secret Santa program. Iâll be posting the first two chapters now and the third and final one tomorrow.
Santaâs Secret â Chapter 2
John Bates uncharacteristically whistled a cheery Christmas tune as he made his way down the snowy path to his home, the little cottage that held all that was near, dear and important in his life.
He could picture the fire in the hearth, the smell of something delicious coming from the kitchen and being greeted by his beautiful wife and their bonny son Jack, as soon as he stepped in through their front door.
However, two out of those four mental images were all that he received as he walked through that door this evening. The fire was burning and there was the distinctive aroma of baked biscuits coming from the kitchen, but Anna and Jack were nowhere to be found downstairs.
Just as he was about to call out. He heard a bedroom door upstairs close and saw Anna walk slowly down the stairs. Â She looked like the weight of the world was on her shoulders and Johnâs mind instantly shifted to concern for his wife. And Jack, where was Jack?
âDarling, are you all right? Whatâs wrong? Is Jackie okay?â
âOh, John!â Anna threw herself into her husbandâs arms. Iâm all right, but Jack⌠heâsâ
âJack is hurt? How badly? How did it happen? Has Doctor Carlson been called?â
âJohn, please, calm down. Let me finish please.â Anna grabbed Johnâs coat by the lapels and forced him to look at her as she explained what had happened.
âWell, you know that Fellowes boyâŚâ Anna started to explain.
âJulian? That ruffian? Heâs twice the size of Jackie and several years older. Did he hit Jack or harm him in some way?â
Anna saw Johnâs eyes flash and his cheeks redden at the thought that his child had been bullied by Fellowesâ
âCalm yourself, and please listen to my entire explanation before you say anything, please John? â
John nodded his head in agreement and Anna proceeded.
âYes, he did hurt Jack, but not in a physical way. And truthfully, Iâm not sure he knew how badly what he said would hurt our son. He just told him something that Jack wasnât ready to hear just yet. Â He lost a bit of his childish wonder today.â
âChildish wonder? I donât understand what you mean, Anna. Youâre scaring me a bit, love.â
Anna sighed and looked directly into Johnsâ eyes. âJulian told Jack there is no such thing as Santa Claus.â
âHe what?â John roared. âWhy, Iâve got a mind to march down to Fellowes home now and throttle that boy. Â How dare he tell our son that!â
âNevertheless, itâs not about how you feel, Mr. Bates, the point is that heâs told Jackie and now he knows. Heâs so trying to keep up a brave front, but I know inside thereâs a part of his little boyâs heart that has been broken. We need to help him through the disappointment and pain heâs going through.â
âYouâre right, Anna. Of course, our first concern, as parents is to help Jack deal with the knowledge that one of his childhood heroes is someone who just isnât real.â
âYes, exactly, love. But how can we fix this? I donât want to lie to our son and tell him that Santa is real and that Julian was lying to him. Though part of me must admit itâs the easy way out for now, but then when or how could we ever tell him the truth when he is the right age to hear and accept it?â
âLet me think about it, Anna. Do you think that Jack will be coming down for dinner this evening?â
âI doubt it. Despite trying to play the big boy, I know heâs still upset about what happened. Heâs been up there for hours. Iâve been checking in on him every 15 minutes or so, but he says he wants to be left alone for now. Â I plan on bringing him up a tray after we finish dinner. Â Which reminds me, Iâd best start on supper now. Â In the meantime, youâll have time to think of what you want to say to Jack. I know heâll accept anything you tell him, John. Youâre also his hero.â
âThen, letâs just hope he doesnât lose two of his heroes tonight, love. Iâll start thinking what to say to him and hopefully, by dinnertime, I will have figured out the right words.â
Supper time arrived and John still hadnât come up with a good enough explanation concerning Santa Claus.
Anna could tell by Johnâs demeanor as he came to the dinner table that he still hadnât figure out what to say to their child. His brow stayed furrowed as he worked to formulate what to tell his young son that would ease the pain of knowing. He thought and thought and then halfway through dessert his face lit up with a smile.
âAnna, Iâve got it. I know what to say to Jack!â
âIâm so glad to hear that, John. I was just on my way to take the tray up,â Anna responded. âWould you like to take it up to him instead?â
âI agree Mrs. Bates, the timing couldnât be better.â
âGood luck, John,â Anna whispered as she placed the food tray in her husbandâs arms.
âIâm afraid it will take more than luck to get through this, love. Just say a prayer that Jackie is going to accept my explanation and feel better by the end of it.â
âI trust you completely, Mr. Batesâ. She moved closer to her husband and gave him a soft kiss on his cheek. âYou can save Santa for Jack. On this Iâm positive.â
With Annaâs blessing, John carefully made his way up the stairs to Jackieâs room.
John stood just outside the door, deftly balancing the tray on one arm as he knocked softly on Jackâs bedroom door with his cane. âJack, itâs Da. All right for me to come in? Iâve got a delicious tray of food, cooked especially for you by mummy.â
At first, John heard nothing, then picked up on the soft voice of his little boy coming through the bedroom door.
âIâm not hungry, but you can come in Da.â
John carefully opened the door, prepared to maneuver himself through a landscape of scattered toys and books on the floor. Anna mentioned Jackieâs meltdown over supper, but to Johnâs amazement the floor had been cleared, and everything appeared to be in its place. He walked over to Jackâs desk, cleared some items to the side and gingerly placed the tray on it.
âJust in case you get hungry, little man.â He then walked over to Jackâs bed and sat next to him. He felt his son lean into him as he placed his arms around Jackâs shoulders.
Mummy told me you had a bad day at school, son.â Jack silently nodded and buried his head further into his dadâs side.
âShe said that Julian Fellowes told you thereâs no such thing as Santa Claus, didnât he?â Again, Jack nodded accompanied with a little sniffle.
âYour mummy and I truly wish you hadnât heard about Santa like that, Jackie.â Jack wiped his nose with his sleeve and snuggled closer to John.
âItâs okay da. Iâm a big boy now and big boys are always able to handle hearing the truth about things.â
âBut, thatâs exactly my point, son. What Julian told you is just part of the truth. Itâs Julianâs truth, but thereâs more. Would you like me to tell you the whole truth?â
Jack pushed back from his dad and looked up at him with eyes as big as saucers and his mouth slightly open. Then he dropped his head down and stared at his hands, neatly folded in front of him.
The silence was deafening to John. He could almost see the wheels spinning in his sonâs head as he pondered if he truly wanted to hear the rest of the story. He worried that Jack might not feel he could handle much more âtruthâ today.
âDa, I do want to hear more, but Iâm really tired, and I just want to go to sleep now. Can you tell me tomorrow?â
Johnâs shoulders sagged in disappointment, but he shook his head yes and kissed Jack softly upon his brow.
âOkay, Iâll tell mummy that you want to go to bed now. Sheâll come up and say goodnight.â He ruffled Jackâs hair and walked towards the door. Â âRemember this Jackie, if you feel you want to talk about this more you can come get me anytime of the day or night.â
âThanks, Da. Â And good night.â
âGood night, my little man.â
@gilroy95020 oh poor Jack...=( I hope johnâs plan works!
Santaâs Secret
This is a three parter for @breakfast-at-bateses as part of the @batesessecretservice Secret Santa program. Iâll be posting the first two chapters now and the third and final one tomorrow.  Sorry, I was a bit tardy posting this, but hopefully, youâll enjoy it all the same. I hope your Christmas was blessed with peace and happiness and your New Year is one of wonder and delight.
Also, it appears that a fanfic with a similar theme just got posted (talk about a big coincidence) so just wanted to set the record straight, this fic isnât a copy of the first one. We just both happened upon the best storyline ever at the same time! đ đ
Chapter 1
Anna was looking forward to this holiday weekend starting. Today was the last day of school before the Christmas holiday break, and starting tomorrow, his lordship had given her husband John, Â three whole days off to celebrate Christmas with the family. She had baked chocolate biscuits earlier in the day and imagined the joy in Jackâs eyes as he enjoyed his snack and sipped some hot cocoa with her when he got home from school that afternoon
Anna was quickly brought out of her reverie startling to the sound of their cottage door banging open and then slamming shut. The sound of feet stomping up the staircase, another door closing with a loud bang was followed by the muffled sounds of bumps and thuds emanating from young Jackâs bedroom.
âJack, is that you?â Anna walked to the base of the stairs and waited for her 8-year-old son to answer. But nothing⌠total silence.
âJackie, come down these stairs this instant and explain why youâve created such a racket?â
Again, total silence.
Anna had never witnessed such willful disrespect from Jack before. Â Something must be terribly amiss for him to ignore her request. With a combination of trepidation and just a touch of parental indignation, Anna walked up the stairs and knocked on her sonâs door.
âJack, open this door, now!â Anna rarely raised her voice to her child, but his behavior was completely out of line.
Her request for him to open the door was again met with silence, so Anna opened it herself and stepped into Jackâs bedroom. Nothing prepared her for the scene before her.
The inside of his bedroom looked like a mighty wind had entered and knocked things about. His prized toy soldiers were strewn across the floor. Books that he loved to listen to his father read to him at bedtime had been knocked off the bookcase and Jack was lying face down on his bed, his right hand curled tightly into a fist.
âJohn Robert Bates, you need to sit up this instant and explain yourself!â Jack shook his head ânoâ and then pulled himself up into a ball, facing towards his bedroom wall and away from Anna.
Seeing his response, Anna knew that her child was in some emotional distress, and not just willfully misbehaving. She stroked his back slowly and decided to take a different tack with her young son. âJack, love, please tell mummy whatâs wrong. Santa Claus will be coming soon and Iâm sure you donât want him to put you on the naughty list. So why donât youâŚâ
At the mention of Santaâs name, Jack sat up and faced Anna. She could see the tears welling in his eyes as his nose began to run.
âTh-th-thatâs just it Mummy!â Jack wailed.
âWhatâs it, love?â answered Anna.
âThere is NO Santa Claus.â Jackie started to cry even more.
âWhat do you mean there is no such thing as Santa? Who would tell you such a thing?â
âJulian Fellowes, he told me at recess today.â
Anna made a mental note to speak to Mrs. Fellowes about her son ruining Christmas for Jack next time she saw her. But for now, her attention was focused on Jackie and what he was going through.
âWhy on earth would he say that to you?â
âI-I- saw him p-push Sally Molesley down in the playground,â Jack answered between sobs, âand⌠and⌠I told him that Santa was going to put him on the naughty list for that and he l-laughed at me, called m-me a b-baby, a-and  tried to push me over a-and th-thatâs when h-he told me that S-s-santa isnât real.â
Jack turned towards his mother and pleaded. âSay it isnât true, mummy. Santaâs real isnât he?â Annaâs heart broke just a little as she witnessed the hope on Jackieâs face.
What to sayâŚhow to answer⌠Annaâs mind spun about madly as she tried to find the right words to answer his question.
âMummy?â
Anna realized she had to come up with something quickly. âWell, um⌠you see love, uh⌠Santa isâŚI mean he..â Anna fumbled to come up with an explanation. But, the right words to make things all better in her sonâs mind just would not come.
Jack, however, saw through his mom hesitation right away and knew what the unspoken answer was. Julian was right. There was no such thing as Santa Claus.
âNever mind mummy,â Jack spoke through tears. âIâm a big boy and I know the truth about Santa now.â He buried his face in his momâs chest and rubbed it back and forth to dry the tears.
âOh, Jackie Iâm so sorry you had to hear this way about Santa. I wish I could come up with a good answer and make you feel better.â Anna wiped a tear from her eye.
âItâs all right mum. Itâs justâŚnow,â he sighed wistfully. âItâs just when Julian told me, at first I didnât believe him because heâs mean and Iâve seen him do more mean things to my friends, so I thought it was just him being hurtful to me.â Jack paused, and looked up at his mother with the same hazel eyes that Anna loved to see on his fatherâs face. âItâs just, I know you would never lie to me mum andâŚand now I wish Iâd never asked you.â
Anna put her arms around Jack and rocked him gently as he sat on his bed. As her eyes filled with tears she thought hard about what she could do to mend his broken heart.
@gilroy95020 lol, great beginning! Loved that the man child was called julian fellowes!!!

@thank-god-and-you haha how embarrassing for anna and john, but poor little jack! Great story
SECRET SANTA for @miss-ute Wishing you a merry Christmas with this little story @miss-ute :
I was totally under the charm of Annaâs white dress when I saw her wearing it during the Ghillies ball ( S3 CS). First of all because it was the first time she was wearing a real feminine garment, light and pleasant. But above all, my thought was she may have bought it earlier for a special occasion and not only for the journey to the Highlands. Why this opportunity would not have been a kind of wedding party given at the cottage after Batesâ release?
They intented to do it, if I refer in the script book from season two. S2 E3 After the Redlion lion scene in Kirkbymoorside, Anna is leaving ( section cut from the original script) p 173 :
âBates and Anna are waiting by the bus stop ANNA : Come back to Downton. Theyâd love to see you and the new valetâs an odd cove. I doubt heâll stay. BATES : His lordship wonât have me back. We parted on bad terms. And I dontât want to see the others until itâs all resolved. Then we can greet them with an invitation to our wedding. He kisses her hand as a pledge, and helps her abroad the bus.â
S2 E 5, And of course, we all remember the famous church scene : ( section partially cut) scriptbook p 258 :
âBATES : You shouldâve had a church wedding ANNA : Donât be silly BATES : No I mean it. You in a white dress, me looking like a fool, and little girls with flowers in their hair. You ought to have had that. ANNA : Iâd rather have the right man, than the right weddingâŚ.â
Well, neither of their projects were able to take place as they wished but after Batesâ release, why not celebrating it ? And if it is not true, at least let me dream of it ! ( I hope this idea was not already written in one of the fanfictions, I havenât read everything I think. If it was please forgive me)
@my-mother-used-to-say i donât recall ever seeing a fanfic about that topic but it would be so good to see! thank you for a lovely post!

Banna, Itâs Cold Outside
A/N Â This story is a present for my dear friend @gilroy95020 as she was my Secret Santa on Tumblr. Â Since sheâs a big fan of karaoke I thought this story was appropriate. Â Itâs based on the song, âBaby, Itâs Cold Outsideâ written by Frank Loesser. Â And it has just a touch of another winter classic.
I do not own Downton Abbey, its characters or Baby, Itâs Cold Outside.
John Bates sat in his cottage on the Abbey grounds feeling miserable despite the fire burning merrily in the hearth. Â So miserable, in fact, that he wasnât really watching the telly at all, just flipping through the channels. Â When he saw on the news that the roads were closed he felt even worse. Â Now Anna, and the others with whom he worked, would have to spend the night at the great house. Â Except for him. Â He was lucky enough to have his own little cottage on the estate, given to him by the Earl himself in thanks for saving his life back when the two of them were in the army.
He usually loved his little home, but tonight he didnât feel so lucky. Â He missed the Abbeyâs young antiquities director and now he wouldnât get to spend any of the extra time she would be spending at the Abbey, or any time at all, with her this evening. Â What made it worse was that it was completely his own fault.
