I don't get as upset about stuff like this as I used to, but it's a shame that twitter seems to collectively think (9k+ liked this post) that Jack is rude or mean for 'ignoring' Sally in the movie and they're a bad couple for it. Yet fans with ADHD & autism can relate to him and his difficulty in recoginizing other people's feelings.
Like let's forget the fact that Jack went to thank Sally for the gift basket, but she ran away, and it was Sally's consistent choice to hide from him in the graveyard instead of making her presence known (because shes. Yknow. Shy!). Jack knew enough about Sally and her hobbies to entrust her with making him a new sandy claws outfit, and he doesn't outright IGNORE her warning in the town hall. He simply MISUNDERSTANDS her, thinking she's talking about the costume, and they were in a situation where they didn't have a lot of time to speak with one another (he has a whole line of residents waiting outside the town hall, lmao) There was even a scene leading up to them having a confession conversation that gets interrupted by the mayor and boogie's boys, which was beyond Jack's control.
Idk it just sucks when people insist Jack is some rude, mean 'man' for doing what I have incidentally done IRL with my boyfriend -- it doesn't help people with autism, ADHD, or anyone who struggles reading others when you demonize characters who happen to be oblivious like this.
