BIOGRAPHY !
Bas grew up in a household that was ever supportive of whatever he wanted to do, yet his father was always busy. From a very young age, he looked up to his father. Since childhood, Bas had always wanted to become a lawyer like his father. Despite his father always being busy, Basilio spent as much time as he possibly could with his father, which to say was not a ton of time. Still the boy idolized his father. He was always a happy child, someone with a smile on his face and more than once did he get in trouble at school for standing up for someone. At a young age, he learned to filibuster bedtime and use his voice. When people asked what he wanted to be, Bas knew that lawyer was the only right answer.
When Bas came out as trans to his family, he was immediately accepted by everyone. He had always known that he didn't feel like he belonged in his body. Bas remembered his father helping him choose a name and change it. Being in California, Bas didn't have much of a problem with being accepted and was very vocal in the various support groups that he went to for other queer children his age. While figuring out who he was took some time, Bas is proud of the person that he is and the person that he wants to become. He was always happy to have his family's support.
In school, Bas was always one of the top students. Although it was very apparent from a young age that he was ADHD. Often getting lost in the projects he would take on, Bas sometimes went so off topic that he had trouble completing certain assignments. Things got a lot easier for him when he was put on medication. Bas never finished at the top of his class in high school, he did well enough to get into Yale. Coming from a family who valued hard work, he knew that he was set. Even if he was scared of moving away, Bas knew it was what was best for his future career. College was good for him... until it wasn't. Bas always had the idea that he was going to get his bachelor's degree and then go to law school.
Unfortunately, life did not work out that was for Bas. When he got the call that his mother Bas made the decision to come home to help take care of his family. But things at home had changed. His father was now way more closed off than he ever had been. Bas tried to be there for his father, but was only met with a wall. He did everything he could, but nothing really worked. Eventually he made the decision to transfer from Yale to Aurora Bay. He knew that it would probably be a pay cut at the end of the day, but he wanted to be there for his family as much as it hurt to be pushed away by his father. Bas decided to work as a paralegal while putting himself through law school, but instead of living at home, he moved out.

"Definitely." she nodded her head in agreement. As an avoid partygoer she was used to the noise and people, but she definitely needed a bit of a break. "Maia -she's um, the owner of Sea Glass boutique. I'm not sure if you've met before, but she's lovely. We've been kinda talking a bit." Celine said. They didn't have a title on anything so it wasn't like she could say more. But the pair had been spending quite a lot of time together. "That's nice. Y'all been talking for a while, too?...any particular reason why you haven't told him?"
Being back in a prom like setting only made him remember how different it had been when he was in high school. Bas didn't want to think about it being the good old days because well he was twenty three. It made sense that his sister felt the same way as he did about parties, they were alike in some ways after all. "Oh, that's cool. I don't know that we've met before, but she seems like a lovely person if you're giving her a chance." Bas smiled. His situation was... similar. To a degree. He didn't feel like it was too new to put a label on it, but it was new enough that he didn't know what to say. "I would say yes." Bas didn't know if he had time to date realistically. "I don't want him to be right. He's been pressuring me to have more fun." But it was more than that. "I don't want it to be too hard for him."
There was that part of Kali who did wonder what she could have also done with her life had she not gone down the path she’d had. She could have followed her mom with special effects make up but losing her mom was what set everything in motion. She didn’t think she was meant to do anything else because what happened to her family was always going to happen. She wasn’t like her sister who had a genuine skill and craft that made people happy. She had this. Solving mysteries and highlighting the stories others may have forgot. “ it’s the wrong field to be in if you want praise. I think if you approach everything with a good heart it can’t steer you wrong. It’s why I try to do what I can. It might not fix everything in the world but if i can help others even a bit I know not to give up on it “
“ I think because the Netflix one seems almost too polished and early made by a big studio. The original had people really pulling and trying to find any crumbs of information they could. I would always be excited when there was an update cause it meant someone was able to help” @basaaragon
Bas never felt like he was particularly smart—even though he'd gone to Yale before transferring back home. He was intelligent to a degree, but he'd thought of himself as someone who worked hard. Not everything came naturally to him and he had to fight to get good grades and keep up with his peers. He tried his best to use that work ethic to do good in the world. Bas wanted to do something with his work that would help people and that's all that mattered. "Yes, that's true. That isn't what I want thankfully. Although I do think that the thank you I'll get is seeing families stay together." He couldn't imagine how bad their world was that he even had to say that sentence. "Exactly. I'm doing my best to do what I can do."
Bas nodded at her words, knowing that he felt the same way. "A few of them are decent, I guess. And the UFO episodes seem... I don't know very strange. I know the original had those too, but they were different. A lot of their shows have that sensational feeling."
his words caused another soft peppering of blush across her cheeks. it continued to surprise her how she could feel so comfortable every time that they were together, yet how wonderfully new this all felt to her. when each interaction consisted, usually, of careful choreography as she expertly navigated each moment with precision, it was quite nice to be taken off guard every so often. and the continued feeling of being truly looked at as a person rather than oggled as a potential prize was something she didn't know quite how much she needed until him. "I'd never make you wait all night." her hand soon slipped into his with the same ease that everything held with them. "and I'm honored to be your first and last dances."
isla eyebrows rose slightly at his confession. "I am a little surprised, yes. I thought you'd have been too busy studying to take part in events like that. but I am happy to be wrong." she returned the scrunch of his nose with one of her own. her smirk, though more playful than the wicked one she used to don, grew slightly at his assumption. "I guess it's my turn to now surprise; this is actually my first prom." the fact was one that usually threw people off; she knew she had all the makings of a classic 'prom queen' archetype. "the academy I went to did have dances, they didn't call them prom, but both my junior and senior year, they happened to land on the same day as some of my end of the season dance competitions. needless to say, I was dancing, just not at school."
as the door to the gymnasium opened, the soft yet still upbeat pop music filled the air around them. "speaking of dancing, I believe we have a first dance to have together." her sweet smile returning.
All his life, he'd had a plan that he was going to go to school, get a job as a practicing lawyer and then settle down with a significant other. He didn't want to deviate from that plan because romance and relationships were not something that he really wanted to put a lot of effort into when he wanted to help people more than focus on himself. He'd always been told that it would happen when he least expected it and Bas hated that everyone who said that was speaking the truth. Bas really loved the life that seemed to be starting with Isla and yet he was still nervous tonight as he was any other night. "I know you wouldn't." He squeezed her hand. "I can't wait to dance with you tonight."
He laughed, thankful to once be a bit surprising. "Well, it looked good to colleges to be both into social events as well as academics. I failed at being good at any sports, so I did focus on the social stuff more than anything else." Bas had tried multiple different sports in high school. He wasn't horrible at track, but not good enough that it made a huge difference on his college applications. "I did study a ton though, you're not wrong about that." He couldn't help but open his mouth in shock as she mentioned not going to her own school's dance. "That's kind of not as shocking as I expected," he admitted. Prom seemed like such a thing that was ingrained in American media, but it wasn't as common as it was made out to be. Plenty of his own friends never went to their proms. "Well, I'm glad that your first prom is with me."
With the doors open, he nodded in agreement. "Oh, of course. I can't wait for everyone in there to see how beautiful my girlfriend is," Bas said and then looked at Isla realizing what he said. "Erm... I'm not going to say I didn't mean that. If that's what you want."
Never in a million years did Nova think she would be on a PTA board. One of the moms caught wind of her successes and said Nova's perspective would be a great addition. She could write a whole novel in just what she witnessed in various meetings and events. "I'll give you $100 if you can guess what detail regarding the end-of-the-school-year barbecue turned into a full-blown tea session." The meeting was only supposed to last two hours and turned into three with the last forty minutes of pure bickering.
Being from Aurora Bay meant that he knew how ridiculous the schools could get about certain events and school functions. While those days were well behind him—okay well, five years behind him—he still knew that parents got really into them. "Oh, I have no clue and wouldn't know what to guess. I assume the location?" He wondered if they were planning on having it at a business that belonged to someone that shouldn't be hosting events because they were involved in sketchy business or cheating on their partner. "Seems like at least you have some interesting town gossip though."

Kalina didn’t know if she had the stomach or heart to do some of those jobs. Spending her days looking into unsolved mysteries and crimes was enough that certain really hard ones had her sitting under a blanket and watching moulin rouge cause she needed to cleanse her brain. She found Bas to be pretty heroic even if he acted like he didn’t deserve the praise. “ id imagine not. Most people who do those sort of jones want to genuinely help others. You wouldnt be good at it if it was for the attention and praise “ she mused for a moment as she glanced back to him with a smile “ it may not fix everything but a step in the right direction is always good right?”
“ unfortunately people like to sensationalize some stuff so there are a lot of cases that get overlooked or people give up on them. But just think about it; a couple of years ago there were cases that had been solved after being cold for over 60 years. Or even the Jack the Ripper identity. It’s good to never give up “ @basaaragon
Honestly, if he wasn't so passionate about helping people and he didn't have a dad in law, he probably wouldn't have decided to be a lawyer. He'd have found another way to help people that didn't involve law. Unfortunately, he'd always been fascinated by it and he didn't know what else he'd want to do. He knew that his job was really difficult and he had a mountain ahead of him. Still, Bas knew that his career was the perfect career for him. "Yeah, I think so too. I think most people feel the same though." He did plan on doing a ton to help people aside from his job. "That's how I feel about it." He nodded.
"That's very true. Bringing attention to cases is a good thing. Sometimes it brings random people together. Like Unsolved Mysteries did so good when it was on. I don't really like the Netflix reboot of it, but I mean it does bring attention to cases that have gone cold."
"Tell me about it." Celine said, chuckling lightly. "Usually I love a good party, but even I needed a break from it." The woman said, which wasn't a total lie. But truth was, she felt some type of way about her date interacting with their ex wife and decided to step out for a bit. "I have a date. What about you? Came with a hot date tonight?"
It was the same way during his actual prom, where he needed a bit of a break so he stepped out for a few minutes. He totally understood his own family for also feeling the same way. "I get it. They're loud and there's lots of people." He nodded. Bas only needed a minute more to gather his thoughts before going back inside anyways. "Oh, cool. Who is it? I mean you don't have to answer that if you don't want. Um, yeah. I have a date. It's a new thing. Well, I guess not that new. I haven't even told dad yet."
isla had wholly appreciated his insistence on picking her up, but there was still a part of her that would have hated to inconvenience him. "I really do appreciate it. I just didn't know how close I was going to cut it and didn't want you to be late meeting with any of your friends or anything."
a bright laugh filled the air as he spun her around, her entire silhouette covered in bouncing light. it amazed her how at ease she felt when with him. her entire life had been performance, stage or none. but this, this felt like her. and apparently, she was a rarity. as they faced each other once more, her hand, adorned with the bracelet she had yet to take off, rested on the side of his face. "stop that." she playfully scolded before placing a quick, tender kiss on his lips. "you look absolutely wonderful and I will hear nothing less."
her hand intertwined with his as she lightly guided him towards the door. "now, I think it's just tradition to ask at this point: was this ever your scene?" the tease followed by a slight dart of her pink tongue poking from between glossed lips.
Of course she was going to say that she'd rather he go and have fun, but Bas was going with her and not with friends. He'd have waited the whole night if it meant getting to spend time with Isla. "I mean I will probably see some of my friends here, but I didn't ask any of them to prom. I asked you which means you will be my first and last dance of the night, regardless." He'd waited for her outside the school. "I'd have waited all night." It was silly, he knew, but that's how he felt.
Dating had never been easy for Bas. He was a decently busy person and didn't want someone to feel second rate to his career and school. He wanted to give the person he dated proper time and space for the two of them. With Isla it felt right. Like the two of them were had space to be their own people and still spend time with each other. He appreciated her and all their time together. "Alright fine." He said after the quick kiss.
He squeezed her hand, a smile resting on his face as they walked towards the door together. "I think I might surprise you and say yeah, actually. I was involved in lots of stuff in high school. I wasn't popular or anything, but I was part of the decorating committee." He scrunched his nose at her. "I bet you were prom queen."
Ruby stood on her skates to get a feel for them and sort of shifted her weight back and forth. She hated forgetting her own skates but this had been a bit of a last minute decision. “ oh? Thank you for that. It’s not my usual vibe but I might have to expand my horizons a bit more cause I love it “ she admitted before waiting for him to stand to meet her @basaaragon
Skating was an activity that Bas loved more than he cared to admit. He was decently good at it too. Although he really didn't have time for going skating anymore, he'd been trying to make time at least once a week where he did something not work or school or stress related. "It can be so pretty and have such an upbeat vibe. But yeah, it's fun." He finished putting he skate on and stood up, slowly taking a spin as he got used to wheels for feet.
"You're taking a little break, too?" Celine asked as she approached her younger brother who appeared to be sitting by himself for the moment. She was a little surprise to see him at the prom, but happy that himself to go out and have a good time with everyone else in town.
"Yeah, it's a little loud in there." He pointed back towards the school. It had been so long since he'd been back inside the walls of the high school and it was still an odd feeling. He didn't really attend events like this often, but he'd always stop to spend time to Isla. "Are you here with a group or date?"

who: closed starter for @basaaragon
where: aurora bay high school ;; near the entrance
it was on brand for isla dubois to be fashionably late.
though, she had a good reason this time. scheduling anything had been a nightmare lately with her multiple projects, her birthday, and now the prom. most of her days had been a busy blur of work. and, unfortunately, the dance had fallen on the day of her twelve-hour rehearsal day. but she was not going to miss it, not when her and bas had planned to attend. so, the blonde had quickly ran home and got ready while planning on meeting him at the front doors.
every inch of her seemed to glow under the low street lights as she hurried up the stairs of aurora bay high. there was a part of her that was thankful she went to a private school during her time here, so this wouldn't be any sort of high school flashback. well, hopefully. grey eyes soon locked onto the familiar visage, the sweet smile that was soon becoming associated with him creeping up on her blushed lips.
her bejeweled hand soon slipped itself under his arm, taking her place by his side. "told you I would make it." she reassured with a bit of a teasing undertone. her tone soon shifted, however, into one of pure genuineness.
At first Bas had not thought about attending the prom because he wasn't sure he'd have the time off. He had a few cases that he was working on and now that school was almost over, he'd started focusing more of his time on what happened after. He'd have more time for work and less time for socializing—although he knew that he probably could have spent less time at work if he really wanted to balance. Bas was concerned about the California Bar and genuinely felt like he had tons of worries at his job as well.
Bas had wanted to pick Isla up, even if it meant they'd be a little late, but she'd insisted on meeting him up front. He didn't want to stress her out getting ready or anything, so he'd agreed. Bas bought a new suit for prom just because the rest of his suits were sort of boring and he'd wanted to match Isla better without wearing a boring black or gray suit. She would look beautiful in anything though, he knew that.
"I could have picked you up," he said, even though Bas hadn't wanted to annoy her about it. He took her hand and spun her around so he could see what she was wearing and was thankful the lighting sucked because he was blushing and she was stunning.
“ it’s honorable. There are those jobs that exist and in my head i call them the difficult but heroic ones and i think you have one of them. “ kalina noted before glancing back. “ like the people who take care of children and animals health and safety. Some times it isn’t perfect and sometimes there are hard days but you want to help people and that really the most important thing. “ Kali wishes she could help people more. In her own little corner of her life she feels like she is. She just wants to bring people closure or bring attention to a case that someone might have information for. Every little bit helped. “ it really is. I didn’t go into it cause of the shock of it all. I just wanted to help people find the answers to questions. We all have our stories. I’m trying to help some have happy endings where I can” @basaaragon
Bas dreamed of being a lawyer from a very young age—before he knew who he was he'd wanted to be a lawyer. Some people didn't understand why especially since he was not necessarily in it for the money. He could barely put into words why it mattered to him. "Well, that's not the reason I do it, but I appreciate it." Bas did not want to seem like he had a hero complex. He wanted to help people because he knew there weren't people that came from supportive households like he'd come from. "Exactly. And I think there's a way to help everyone. Some people need support and that's it." He wanted people to know that he was there. "That's admirable. There are cases out there that really need to be talked about and that's what's stopping them from being solved. You know. There's someone that knows something about a case."
"Dude, I'm so glad it wasn't glitter. Remind me to never, ever, not ever use glitter for a Halloween costume. If this shit is this hard to get rid of, I'd be glittery the rest of my life."
"Can't be out long? Why, you gotta curfew?" Darcy teased. "Nah, it's okay. I'm kind of a homebody so I don't really stay out super late anymore. I'm not the person I was in high school. Back then I'd stay out so late my parents nearly filed missing persons reports a few times. Well, my mom. My dad is the police chief himself."
"Glitter is the worst. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but wow. It never disappears. It's like it multiplies or something." Bas let out a laugh. "Never use glitter for any costume. Like that's the worst thing to use for any costume."
Bas had a lot of school work that he really needed to get done. "Nah, I have a lot of homework and work to get through. Cases and whatnot I need to do research for and a paper or whatever. But also yeah, I tend to be a but of a homebody myself as well. I cannot imagine that was ever fun. Did you ever hide on purpose?"
"I bet. I wish I had better words of consolation..." the woman said gently as she took his hand and started leading him out of the establishment. While she felt sympathy for him, she knew that she couldn't relate to the loss nor hurt that he was feeling. "I think you'll always miss how things were, but it'll be some time for things to get some semblance of normalcy again. In the meantime you have Castillo...And I'm here, as well." the brunette said, giving his hand a gentle squeeze.
"It's fine. No one really does." He had learned that while people sometimes did know what to say to him, there were a ton of people that had never been in his situation. Losing a parent was difficult enough, but Bas sometimes felt like he'd lost two. "Dad's... it's complicated. Sometimes I felt like I lost him too." Grief hit him hard and Bas tried—there was only so much he could do. "I don't want to both you. You're so busy and I'm also busy."

“ you gotta admit there is something about the ambiance that’s is quite pleasing “ Ruby noted as she began to lace up her skates and looked out at the roller rink. Maybe it was just the fact that the neon lights that were everywhere made for some pretty great photos too. Ruby was always subconsciously looking for an opportunity to put on her account that just sort of fit her vibes. The neon and bright colors certainly fit the description. “ or maybe it’s time for me to admit that I’m addicted to being around neon? Ready ?” She asked getting in her feet
Bas did not have a lot of time to spare, but he did really want a day to have fun this week, since it was going to be a rough week for him. He found himself—for whatever reason—at the roller rink. He'd never been a great skater, but the atmosphere was always amazing. "There really is," Bas admitted. He was a much better bowler than he was at skating, but he had to admit that skating could be fun with the right people. "Neon is a great color palette. Not one I'm look good in, but it suits you." He finished lacing his boots and nodded. "Ready."

their relationship was always going to change; entering adulthood and finding who you were in regards to this world always changed one's relationship with their parents. however, cas had worried he had royally screwed up with these last bridge years, the transition only made more awkward with him becoming a complete recluse. "no, I ordered us a whole sampling. so, unless they gave us all the same brew by accident..." his widened eyes finished his trailing sentence for him.
"you don't know that." he quickly retorted back, a teasing air complimenting his grin. "it could have pained me every word of the question. too subjective to be that certain. going to need some evidence to back that argument up." his low, gravely laugh adding to the mood.
"really?" the surprise was evident in his voice. his son was too much like him in that respect; cas' younger years belonged to his work and his work alone. it was how his relationship with celine broke down before it could even really begin. and it was close to happening with rosalyn, though she had a way of bringing him back down to earth. it was one of the reasons she captivated him so much. "you deserve a break, though. those cases will either still be there or they're so close to done that all you could have done was basic clerical work anyway." the words echoed through him, though originated by rosalyn. and she was always right. "no plans with friends or anything? going to lay around with me and the dog all week?"
Bas didn't like that his relationship with his dad had changed—and while he knew it was going to change when he got older, he didn't expect it to happen right away. Bas remembers all the good times they had when he was younger. Going off to college had been difficult for him because he wanted to be close to his family. But now he had no idea how he was supposed to talk to his dad. "Well, it all tastes the same," he shrugged, looking around to see if anyone else was having a similar thought. "But I don't really drink beer often, so I don't know what I'm talking about." Bas turned back to hsi dad.
"I didn't know you took me for a fool," he countered, giving his dad a look. He wouldn't have called his dad out if he wasn't allergic to the bullshit. "If that's true, then next time don't ask the question. You know the answer is going to be the same every time." He shrugged. "The evidence was your face," Bas countered, pointing to his dad and leaning back in his seat.
"Why is that so shocking?" Having a bit of a break was not the norm for him—as Bas decided when he came back from Yale, he couldn't be at home anymore. Working at least got him out of the house. "I have a ton of time off, I might as well use it." Bas didn't want to get rid of it for no reason. "Gee dad, thanks for making me feel super useful as a paralegal," he rolled his eyes. "I probably have some plans, I'm sure, but I'm mostly going to relax. Maybe go on a little road trip or something. I donno."
Kalinas expression shifted into one of admiration in a lot of ways because that was an area of law that she felt was so important and that so many people liked to abuse in order to harm innocent people. “ that’s amazing work though. I can understand it being draining. But you’re honestly kind of amazing for going into that field. “ she noted with a small smile. He really was interesting to her. “ oh well that could always be fun too. If you have me a book that you don’t remember correctly. It would make reading it all that more interesting” she joked before the subject came back to true crime. It had been her mom and the mystery around her passing that influenced everything she’d done, and it was why she felt so passionate about doing things correctly. “ some people just like the violence or are weird about serial killers. They tend to ruin everything “ @basaaragon
Bas didn't think that he was amazing for wanting to go into the field of law he was interested in. If anything, he was setting himself up to hear so many heartbreaking stories. But if anything, he wanted to help people—and he would do everything in his power to do what he could to help people. "It is amazing work. And I can only hope that I'll be able to do some good." He wanted to leave the world in a slightly better place than he found it. "That's true. I'll have to go through the books I have at home at some point. I only have a fraction at my apartment." Since he was at the dorms, he knew that he ought to leave most of his books at home. "Yeah, those people are very strange. Violence is kind of scary."
