My name is Wenny *Madame Mirage* Chan.
Here is my akdphi story:
The one thing I love the most about aKDPhi:
I'll admit it, I was never a sorority type. Especially having the same best friends since elementary school up until present day, I never thought of myself as a sorority girl. "Those" types of fake girls. Why do I need more "girlfriends" when I have my best girlfriends already? When I met sisters in Stony, they were fun and super generous every time I saw them. They always invited me to go eat and hang out with them. There was no insincerity there. My aKDPhi passion really ignited when I transferred to Baruch in Fall 2011 though, the semester right after I crossed. So it's like moving from the suburbs into a large city of uncertainty and knowing only like 1% of the population.
Even though I'm an annex from SUNY Stony Brook, I was never alone the moment I stepped into Baruch. All the sisters welcomed me into their chapter even before my semester started in Baruch by adding mE on Facebook over the summer. It was a bit strange at first when they hit me with 100% friendliness, but when I started to get to know everyone in the first month, I knew it was all 110% genuine. I CHOOSE to thank this chapter for their unconditional sisterhood, for being nothing but kind and welcoming since day 1 to me by putting in hard work and dedication as an active sister over the past three years. I've never had so many people acknowledge the hard work I contributed in my life and they never wanted me to feel left out of their sisterhood even for a minute. My top two favorite memories (among many, many others) are when I finally got to meet my to-be little because I knew it was a match made in heaven with our very first conversation; and definitely in Fall 2011 semester's formals where I was presented the chapter's special track jacket with my own nickname on it. I was finally able to match everyone on the days we wanted to look as one in the chapter gear. That was the day I could comfortably call this chapter, my chapter as well. I remember this night as if it happened yesterday.
If the sisters here weren't as genuine, kind, loving, strong minded, caring, friendly, smart, and thoughtful, my experience at Baruch would've been far from memorable. I wouldn't have such a difficult time trying to transition myself from undergraduate/aKDPhi life to the real working world in my last semester here. I would not have gotten to care or love my little, my Baruch line sisters and so many other sisters here the way I have grown to. I would probably not have made friends or said "hi" to any of these girls if it was not for aKDPhi.
The sisterhood here isn't something you can physically see, but you can definitely feel it everytime you walk into the room filled with us squealing and laughing at stupid jokes that aren't appropriate for the public, when a sister hugs you against your will, when they give you small pick me up gifts, give you the last bite of their food because you are staring hungrily at it, when they come over to drag you out of your home when your eyes are swollen from crying or spontaneous midnight trips across boroughs for food dates.
The sisterhood is very much so alive and eminent here at Baruch, and it is absolutely amazing to be a part of it. Once you have it, you never want to let go of it. True story.
So here I am. A sorority girl with refined business skills and so many wonderful sisters with big hearts (still close to my home girls). Proud to be repping purple and white passion. with love & friendship, Wenny *Madame Mirage* Chan
