4 years, 4 months, 24 days. That’s how much time as has passed between these two pictures. —— Lots of folks ask us “How long did it take to build this place?” That’s a complicated question & an even more complicated answer. The Cook Family moved to 30 Stone Hill Rd in Rumney New Hampshire May 21, 2018. (The first picture was taken July 3 2018). As you can see, we wasted no time removing and recycling as much material as possible to start carving out a safe space for outdoor adventurers. The broad brush strokes were finished exactly a year later (quite literally, as we were painting the bathrooms during our opening party). Since then we’ve been constantly adding, changing, improving, creating, & growing the space our guests & staff interact with. But a physical space isn’t what makes @barndoorhostel so special. That is attributed to the people that enter, share their stories, stay a while, & if we’re lucky, come back for another visit. The second picture was taken Nov 26 2022, 4 years, 4 months, 24 days after a pile of insulation, particle board and wood lay on the floor. In the second picture we instead have piles of people—loving strangers and friends gathered together. New guests, old staff, family, all under one roof. You see, the hostel, the business, the “vibe”, is never finished being built. It’s been a LONG road to get to here, and that’s why we need a break—we’re taking a vacation and the business will be closed for the first time, starting March 19th and reopening on April 1st. We’ve been going nonstop pouring our hearts and souls, blood sweat & tears into making the hostel not so hostile. From first time travelers that have no idea what a hostel is, to frequent flyer campground tenters (and #vanlife folks), we have been striving to give everyone what they need, and we thank you so much for all your positive feedback this far! We love you all and want to be nice & fresh for y’all this season. If you’re looking for a budget friendly, chill vibe accommodation in the area while we are closed, make sure you check out @notchhostel in North Woodstock or @coho_hostel in North Conway. Upon reopening April 1st, our camping will also be open. See you by the fire! (at Barn Door Hostel and Campground) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp74oPrOh8s/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
