it's lucky i don't mind crying in public.

i've pulled the book from the Palestine street library, next to the mural of Hind Rajab. i watch children her age pass a football between them, giggling & tripping over themselves. i hear the planes overhead approaching the nearby airport. i think of how these sights and sounds mean something else entirely - fear, terror, horror - in Palestine.

from where i sit, i can see the hall we held a fundraiser in. i remember the elation & warmth i felt that night - to be DOING SOMETHING.

i think of how Hind's mural was attacked afterwards.
