queerplatonic is a term used in the ace/aro community to describe a relationship between two people that is not romantic and/or sexual, but considered equally as significant and intimate. my understanding is that it's essentially the answer to the question of "what does it mean to be dating somebody if you are aromantic and/or asexual?" because you can still have that stronger-than-platonic commitment to a person, even if the romantic or sexual connotations associated with "dating" do not apply

on that note (and i'm sorry anon you didn't ask for discourse but) i just want to say that queerplatonic relationships are, by definition, distinct from friendship. i know there is a lot of homophobia and historical baggage associated with claiming that two women are not dating they are just REALLY GOOD FRIENDS and i am definitely not arguing with that. however being someone's bestie is NOT the same as being in a queerplatonic relationship. the global claim that a queerplatonic relationship is inherently just some diluted or more palatable version of a romantic relationship that people prefer because they're too homophobic to view it romantically is unfair to those who value their queerplatonic relationships just as much as others value their romantic relationships
