I was talking about being afraid of people leaving me behind because I'm too sick, and my boyfriend just looked at me and said: "It's my choice to be your boyfriend. It's your friends choice to be your friends. You don't have to understand it, but you have to respect our choice. Don't try to make the decision of whether you're worthy of people on their behalf because that's not your decision to make." I think that's an important thing to remember. That whether we're worthy of someone's time and effort is something others can decide for themselves regardless of whether or not we agree with them. There's a lot of peace in realizing that literally all you have to do is accept the love other people choose to throw your way. That you aren't the one who gets to determine that you aren't worthy of their love. That other people can choose to love you regardless of how you feel about yourself - and that you can learn to respect their choice even though you're feeling unworthy.

“don’t go where i can’t follow” is literally the most romantic thing anyone has ever said. it’s like. i’ll let you bring me anywhere—far from home, far from the places and people i love, so long as you stay with me. i’ll let you walk into danger and through hell, but i will not let you go where i can’t go with you. that is where i draw the line.

so many people were so kind to me when i was still really unhealed and i couldn’t accept the kindness and it went right over my head so that i could maintain my negative world view so. watch out for that

maybe if you take a hot shower. cook something. eat a little soup. feel a little sunshine. make something with your hands—it doesn’t have to be big. maybe if you stretch your body and draw a silly little picture and get some rest, the world will feel like something your hands can still hold

I have an end-of-life patient to whom I spoke today. She burst out laughing and said, "It was all such fun. I just had so much fun." I wish this for everyone. I wish that we each would meet death laughing, with little regret and even less fear.

yesterday on the train i saw an old couple together holding hands and laughing and the guy kept kissing the woman on the cheek and she was giggling and blushing and telling him to stop it but she always turned her face so he could do it again and they looked so happy like they had only just met and it warmed my heart because love is everywhere everywhere everywhere
