and i don’t really have any good ones for kristen and gorgug. I was thinking what if kristen, in her search for answers and a god to worship, started worshipping a dark deity that promised her happiness and acceptance. and in order to please the malevolent god, she must carry out their set tasks and do what they tell her to do, which would be Not Good things. but im not really sure. and i have no idea for gorgug. i was thinking about expanding on gorgug’s fears in the nightmare king’s forest about imposter syndrome, but i don’t really know what i would do for him.

What about an angry, feral Gorgug? One who never had friends to help him find balance? After getting beaten and bullied on the first day, the flower knocked out of his hand and dented, the friends never came and the bullying never stopped. And one day he grew so tired of being the weakling, he let the rage consume him, and he beat his bully into a bloody pulp. The suspension was worth the feeling of blood pounding in his ears as everyone cowered in fear of him. So what if he was the brainless monster they all thought he was? No more flowers, no more tinkering, and it’s not like he even had friends in the first place. All he has is endless rage and anger, and the rush of power and adrenaline as people jump out of his way in the hallways. Eventually he starts working as a barbarian-for-hire, ready to tear into whoever his employers put in front of him, without a care for who they are. A monstrous killing machine, like the gnomes said he would be.

What about a religious zealot Kristen? Without her friends to help her open up and discover the best parts of herself, she falls deeper into the Helioic faith, becoming the blessed corn god’s divine messenger, spreading its horrific gospel to the most vulnerable students at Aguefort. Repressing any parts of herself that she doesn’t understand, she goes on to become their divine priest, a direct conduit of Helio, and who could call her evil, or broken? Her family assures her they love her, she’s a pillar of the community, and her divine healing magic has saved the lives of so many. Nobody could say that there’s anything wrong with her because nobody can see the bitterness and the loss of her previously endless well of empathy.

Violent, nauseating, confusion was followed by the immediate sting of salty tears, near-manic, hysterical laughter swallowed whole by fear, body shaking so hard as to mirror the cataclysmic emotional upheaval I was experiencing.
