I heard whispers as I walked down the hall, their eyes following someone behind me. I looked over my shoulder to see that it was none other than Byun Baekhyun in his usual black attire, his helmet in his hand as he walked. He kept his eyes forward, avoiding the peering and judging eyes of ours peers. I could see how his jaw set, his eyes meeting mine for a second before he looked away, turning into another hallway. I stopped in my tracks and watched him walk away, frowning as I saw both men and women talking about him behind his back. The frown on my face deepened at seeing a man say something to him, Baekhyun ignoring it completely until he shouted something out to him. This made Baekhyun stop in his tracks, turning on his heel and walking back over to him. I could see how annoyed Baekhyun was by the look on his face, his eyes drilling holes into the manâs head. For a second his eyes looked around, meeting mine for the second time. He held my gaze for a few seconds before looking away like before. With one last word to the man in front of him he turned back around and continued on his way.
I was brought out of my thoughts by the sound of Soyeon calling out my name. I turned to see both her and Jongdae walking over to me. I gave them a smile, the smile grown at having Soyeon link her arm with mine as she dragged me along with her. Jongdae came to walk next to me on my right side. I looked down the hallway Baekhyun had just walked down once more, Jongdae following my gaze.
âWhat are you looking at?â
âBaekhyunâŚhe was just walking down here when some guy wanted to start something with him.â I said, the frown returning to my face.
Jongdaeâs lips formed a thin line while Soyeon scoffed before she said, âAre you sure it wasnât him that instigated it? That guy is a ticking time bomb.â
âHe was just minding his own businessâŚâ
âYou should stay away from him Y/N.â Jongdae said in a firm voice, Soyeon voicing her agreement to the statement.
I rolled my eyes at the two, âYou two listen to the rumors too much. I donât even know exactly what theyâre saying about him but I doubt any of it is true.â
âThereâs always some truth to every rumor.â
âThatâs right! Just last week I heard he beat a guy half to death! And the week before I heard he got into a knife fight!â Soyeon exclaimed, seeming a little too excited over the words she spoke.
I laughed half heartedly, âYeah whatever you say. Câmon letâs hurry up and get to class, the professor will kill us if weâre late again.â
âY/N!â Soyeon yelled out as she came barging into my home.
I sighed heavily, regretting ever giving her a key. I groaned as I brought my pillow over my head, holding onto it tightly when she opened the door to my room. I shouldâve held onto my blanket instead as she yanked it off of me, the cold hitting my skin as I brought my knees up for warmth. I felt her sit on the bed beside me, prying the pillow out of my hands.
âGet up we have things to do.â
âI donât remember planning these things.â I said in a groggy voice, sitting up in bed and rubbing the sleep out of my eyes.
âWell tough luck because Jongdae is throwing a party and we need new outfits.â She said, getting off of my bed and going into my closet.
âJongdae? He hasnât told me anything about it.â
She came back out with a shirt and jeans in hand, throwing them at me as well as a pair of underwear and a bra, ignoring my words, âGo shower. The party starts at seven and we have a lot of things to do before then.â
âYes maâam.â I said in a sarcastic tone as I got up and headed to my bathroom.
I tried keeping the smile on my face as Soyeon dragged me from store to store but the longer we stayed at the mall the more tired I got. I never really liked the idea of going to various stores after already having bought what I was there to get in the first place. I was the get in, buy what I needed and go type of person but I knew Soyeon was not. She liked the look around, saying she wanted to look at all the options and then decide where to buy her things at. This is kind of the reason why I never really went shopping with her. Now I knew why she woke me up so early in the morning. At the tenth store I had finally had enough, telling her that I was going to the food court for a snack and to call me when she had picked out a dress and shoes. At first she didnât want to let me go but after telling her that Iâd only be a few minutes and that Iâd be right back did she let me go.
I let out a heavily sigh when she was out of sight, turning on my heel and making my way over to the food court. Truth be told I wasnât even hungry, I just wanted some time to myself. I looked around the food court for an empty seat, surprised to see a familiar face in the crowd of people. Without thinking I made my way over to him, sitting down in the seat in front of him. I could see the surprise in his eyes, his mouth freezing mid chew. I gave him a small smile, the smile slowly falling at seeing him lean back in his chair, an annoyed look seeming to flash in his eyes.
âWhat are you doing?â He asked after swallowing the food in his mouth.
I tilted my head to the side, the smile returning to my face, âWhatâs it look like?â
âIt looks like youâre interrupting my meal is what it looks like. I donât remember letting you sit with me.â He said in a harsh tone.
âAnd who said I needed permission to sit? This is a public place and this so happened to be the only seat available.â I said, watching him narrow his eyes at me.
âWhatever.â He muttered under his breath, picking up a fry from his tray and popping it into his mouth.
He kept his gaze off of me, staring off as he continued eating. I sat back myself, watching him, noticing how soft his features were. This was the man everyone was so afraid of? He didnât look like he could hurt a fly much less another human being. If those rumors about him held any truth then Iâm sure he had a valid reason to get into those fights. Iâd bet anything that he was just defending himself but people love to twist the truth. He mustâve sensed me staring at him as his eyes met mine with a quizzical look.
âWhat do you want, Y/N?â He asked, taking a sip from his soda.
âWhat are you doing tonight?â I asked hiding the surprise at hearing my name leave his lips, I donât remember ever telling him. I grew worried about him as he began coughing, seeming to be choking on his soda.
After a few seconds his coughs subsided, his eyes darting from one of mine to the other. âWhy?â
âA friend of mine, Jongdae, is throwing a party tonightâŚyou should come.â
He scoffed at that, rolling his eyes, âYeah right. I donât do parties. BesidesâŚitâs not like anyone would want me there anyways.â
âI do.â I said without thinking.
He looked shocked to be hearing that from me but before he could say anything I heard Soyeon calling out to me. I turned my head to see her waving me over, a few bags in her hands.
âYou should think about it, itâll be fun.â I said before hurriedly writing down the address on a napkin.
Leaving him with that I ran over to Soyeon, blocking her view of Baekhyun as she tried to look over my shoulder at him. I didnât want her to start bad mouthing him and telling me about a new rumor she heard. I always hated hearing them but that never stopped her from telling me all about them. Before she could begin asking question I grabbed her by the shoulders and turned her around, holding onto her tightly as she tried to turn back around to see. I dragged her along with me, asking her questions about what she bought to distract her and it worked like a charm.
